#20: Johnny Hates Feminism

He was trying to pitch himself as being chivalrous by talking about how he used to pay for absolutely everything when he and his ex went out, surprising Camilla, who thinks that the man paying for everything is old-fashioned and it’s better to split the bill. Jonny, however, insists that paying is the manly thing to do. Worse than that, he says that if they went on a date, he’d insist on paying, no matter what she said. Then he launches into an anti-feminism tirade, shocking her even more. Obviously, Camilla called him out, but he retorted by saying that she wasn’t a real feminist because she didn’t believe the things he thought she did.

#19: Ellie Questions Georgia’s Loyalty

Did Jack Fowler and Georgia kiss on purpose? According to him, no, it was a total accident. It all kicked off during an argument with Laura and Megan, with Jack coupled up with Laura at the time and Megan getting involved because she’d heard Laura say something about Alex. Things got weirder, though, when Georgia began defending herself for apparently spreading the story about her and Jack to sow dissent, and then Ellie got involved, furious about how Georgia had been banging on for weeks about how loyal she was, only to go and do this. And it was all for nothing, because she never got coupled with Jack.

#18: Sports Day

The lads came over to present Tom with a participation trophy for doing badly at sports day, which went down like a lead balloon considering the entire reason Tom had been upset about it was that the other team had clearly won by cheating. Not satisfied to come first, they proved themselves to be bad winners, gloating to Tom during the evening while he was just trying to relax. Shaq continued to take it too far, while the other islanders very quickly got bored of all this and tried to put a stop to it. Even the fellow red teammates stepped back when Shaq took control, and he was eventually dragged away.

#17: Playing Games

Really, they’re all playing games all the time if they’re signing up for a stint on “Love Island”, so neither Amber nor Ekin-Su had a leg to stand on. But they still tried, ripping into each other after a friendly chat went awry. The other girls were listening in and went over to observe and also defuse things if necessary, but it just got more and more tense. And then Ekin-Su accused Amber of being insecure in her relationship, and that being the real reason she was picking a fight. And then they all ganged up on Ekin-Su, but the joke’s on them: she went on to win the series.

#16: Least Compatible Couple

Often, the islanders are asked to vote for which couple they think is the least compatible, and in this series, Teddy and Faye were the unlucky recipients. Fans will remember that they eventually came third, and stayed together for a few years afterwards, splitting in 2023. But Faye wanted to get to the bottom of things, demanding that the others explain why they voted for her and Teddy. They both garnered tens of thousands of Ofcom complaints during their time in the villa, most of them over a row where Faye blew up at him for potentially being unfaithful when they were manipulated by the production crew.

#15: Dressing Room Bust Up

After being voted as one half of the most smug couple, Whitney wasn’t taking any prisoners, being passive aggressive with Ella in the bathroom over her beating Whitney to the shower. The situation then moved into the dressing room where Whitney continued to be passive aggressive, until Ella apparently took it too far, and Whitney outright accused her of being selfish. In fact, she accused her of being the single most selfish person she’d ever met. The other girls sensed an atmosphere when Ella started giving EVERYONE the silent treatment, declaring that now SHE was smug. It was all bizarre, especially when Whitney later pretended that she had no idea Ella had been upset.

#14: Harriett vs Casey

In this edition of “All Stars”, a lot of the arguments revolved around just how popular the couples were with the viewers, and whether they deserved to be there more than some of the others. But another vote was the root of the problem here, when they had to vote for the couple most likely to be there for clout. Much like the game playing, you can safely assume that they’re ALL in it for clout, since going on “Love Island” is a foolproof route to getting a career as an influencer – that is, if you’re not one already. But they didn’t take kindly to the suggestion and Harriet and Casey fell out over this.

#13: Scott Hijacks Honesty Hour

He had issues with the things the other islanders were saying about his relationship, but rather than listen to Catherine and have a quiet word, he decided to gather everybody around the firepit and have a go. He wanted to put a stop to the rumour mill by demanding they all speak their mind directly to his face, but maybe all this radical honesty wasn’t his thing, either. But then things got to Catherine, too, when she started to think the others were being hypocritical. Clearly, addressing it out in the open WASN’T the best course of action, since it devolved into a shouting match.

#12: Snog, Marry, Pie

Always a source of strife, Luke was fuming with Jess when she kissed someone else during one of the villa’s many games. She chose to marry Luke in the game, but that wasn’t good enough; apparently, she should have chosen not to participate. He really went for her over this, but she didn’t exactly help by saying she thinks Luke is “sweet” and admits that he’s not her usual type. Despite her defending herself, he just kept going. Clearly, he’d worked himself up and had his mind set on an argument even when she tried to be reasonable, and it all kicked off.

#11: Rosie Drags Adam

One of the all-time most controversial contestants, Adam Collard was widely disliked by the viewing public. People in the villa began to wise up to him before long too, though, including Megan, who told Rosie – coupled with Adam at the time – some of the things he’d been saying about her. She walked right in there and said she’d heard that he’d been complaining that she was materialistic, and he just brushed her off. His behaviour on the show led to allegations of gaslighting, which didn’t stop when he reappeared four years later, though it was clearly uncomfortable for everybody listening to Rosie have a go at him at the time.

#10: Lillie’s Can of Worms

Islanders Liam Reardon and Millie Court seemed perfectly suited for each other, and had won the hearts of many a fan watching from home. But all that rapidly went south when Liam and the other boys left the Villa to enter Casa Amor. Liam wasted no time in cracking on with new girl Lillie, kissing her and sharing a bed with her. But his hopes of getting away with two-timing were dashed when Lillie entered the main villa and spilled all of the tea, for all the residents to see. It’s fair to say the smug smile was wiped off his face pretty quickly. You just can’t get away with anything on this show.

#9: The Toastie

A lot of “Love Island” arguments are pretty understandable: romance is, after all, a very passionate thing. But getting heated over a toastie? Well, that’s a new one on us. Series 2 islander Terry goes full Joey Tribbiani mode when his partner Malin asks to share some of his late night snack. Somehow this perfectly reasonable request sets him off on an x-rated rant, that sees him stomping round the villa and complaining to the camera in the beach hut about it. Malin is naturally taken aback, and cools off by talking to the girls, while Terry vents to the lads. If you want petty and pointless, it’s hard to look past this moment.

#8: Jonny Versus Theo

Tensions between the two boys had been rising, but it all came to a head when Theo stole Jonny’s partner Kyla at recoupling. Theo had been making moves on Kyla for a day or so, but it’s fair to say his choice to couple up with her before Jonny could was always going to ruffle some feathers. And ruffle it did. Jonny didn’t hold back, calling Theo a word that we can’t repeat here - but trust us, it’s rude and funny in equal measure. We suspect you’d be thinking the same thing if you were in Jonny’s shoes. As far as recouplings go, this is one of the most explosive you’ll see. What a moment.

#7: “Accidental” Wine Spillage

Nothing says “nice to meet you” quite like spilling a glass of wine all over your shoes. But that’s exactly what Kady does to new girl Malia on her first day in the villa. Kady claims it’s accidental, but, come on… We know your game, Kady. Malia gave as good as she got, though. In fact, the row escalated to such a degree that Malia ended up being forcibly removed from the set - and the show - by security, making her the first contestant to depart in such a way. It might not have seemed like it to her at the time, but her one-day stay in the villa was absolutely worth it. For the viewer, at least.

#6: Hugo Calls Out Toby

Earlier in the series, Toby had pied off Chloe in order to pursue new girl Abigail. Hugo, a good friend of Chloe, did not take kindly to this, and decided to use his recoupling speech to throw Toby under the bus. He called Toby’s behaviour “BS” in front of everyone, and went on to say that she deserves someone who is honest with her. But it went down like a lead balloon. While Toby clearly didn’t react well, viewers questioned why Hugo didn’t react in a similar way when Toby moved on from Kaz. Hugo had a fair point - but this was not the best way to deal with it.

#5: Maura Puts Tom In His Place

Fiery Maura made a name for herself with her no-nonsense persona. And it’s moments like this that earned her that reputation. Things between her and Tom were looking promising, and when they were selected to spend the night in the hideaway spirits were high. But Tom’s cockiness got the better of him when he opened his big mouth to say “it will be interesting to see if she’s all mouth”. Maura kicked off, big time. Sparks flew as Tom admitted he had no leg to stand on. And after just a few sentences of debate, their blossoming romance was over quicker than it had begun. Way to go, Tom!

#4: Anna Kicks Off At Jordan

As a general rule of thumb, if you ask someone to be your girlfriend and they say yes, it’s not acceptable to start chatting someone else up. But inexplicably, that’s exactly what Jordan did just two days after making it official with Anna. Naturally, his interest in India did not wash well with Anna, or the other islanders. Anna ripped into him ferociously, with the backing of best friend Amber, while Jordan denied the whole thing. Because of course he would. It’s unbelievable that Jordan thought this was acceptable, and the furious argument that broke out was entirely justified. Do not get on the wrong side of Anna, folks.

#3: Kady Loses It

If you thought Kady spilling wine was the most heated this particular islander could get, think again. New arrival Tina decided to choose Kady’s partner Scott for a date, and let’s just say Kady wasn’t exactly over the moon about this. How is this going to top the wine spillage, we hear you ask? Well, that’s simple. By calling Tina the rudest word in the dictionary, and then pressing her bare buttocks up against a window in full sight of her rival, of course. And all this after promising to keep her cool the day before. This is utterly unhinged, chaotic behaviour, and we are incredibly here for it. Golden television.

#2: Amy Rages At Curtis

Arguably the most quotable “Love Island” scene in history. Amy and Curtis seemed destined for a long and happy relationship, until the dreaded Casa Amor. Curtis’ head was turned by Jourdan, and though he didn’t couple up with her the damage was done. Amy unleashed her raw feelings onto Curtis, and it’s here we’re treated to the infamous line. Amy put it all on the line in her rage, admitting her strong feelings for him while in utter disbelief that he would throw it all away like that. Curtis can offer little more than sheepishness and poor excuses in response. It’s gripping TV - but heartbreaking for Amy.

#1: Anna Versus Michael

The argument of all “Love Island” arguments. Michael had been relatively popular until this point, largely thanks to his relationship with villa favourite Amber. But in one moment, he plummeted from heartthrob to island supervillain when he chose to dump Amber in favour of new girl Joanna. Anna was not having it, and she kicked off like no islander has ever kicked off before. But it’s Michael’s response that will live long in the memory of fans. In branding the girls as “CHILDISH” in his thick scouse accent, Michael inadvertently created the most notorious catchphrase the show has ever seen. He may have lost respect with his hissy fit, but he accidentally made TV history too. What a guy.
