#10: Yuffie Kisaragi “Final Fantasy VII” (1997)

In almost every “Final Fantasy” game, you’re bound to come across at least one party member with a knack for pickpocketing. Perhaps the most memorable of all is Yuffie from “Final Fantasy VII.” While she’s an optional character who isn’t part of the primary storyline, you’ll defiantly want to seek this spunky tomboy out. Not only is she an expert thief, but also a self-proclaimed great ninja too. Her cockiness and constant motion sickness might make her hard to stomach at times, but Yuffie’s a dedicated fighter and friend nonetheless … when she’s not stealing your materia.

#9: Selina Kyle aka Catwoman “Batman: Arkham City” (2011)

Just as “Batman: Arkham City” makes the player feel like they’re the dark knight, so too does game make them feel as if they’ve stepped into Catwoman’s boots for a few sections of the game. The alluring cat burglar will have to use all of her martial arts skills and sex appeal to survive the mean streets and to get into Hugo Strange’s vault. The mission’s danger factor is just an added bonus for her. True to her comic origins, Catwoman is crafty and manipulative, but can’t stop herself from getting sentimental when Batman’s in trouble.

#8: Nabbit “New Super Mario Bros. U” (2012)

When you name your child Nabbit, you’re pretty much setting him up to become a thief someday. Always making off with a bag of stolen goodies, this purple sneak is quick like a bunny…actually he is a bunny. As if Mario didn’t already have enough to deal with in this Wii U platformer, he has to chase Nabbit through several levels too. He can be a tricky bugger, but you’ll eventually catch the crook with a bit of trial and error. You can also play as Nabbit as a hidden character in New Super Luigi U, guess this is what Community Service counts as in the Mushroom Kingdom.

#7: Kasumi Goto “Mass Effect” series (2007-)

The “Mass Effect” series is full of so many memorable characters that you want to soak up every minute you have with each of them, even if it means paying a little extra coin youself. Part of the DLC pack Stolen Memories in Mass Effect 2, Kasumi Goto is the best thief the galaxy has to offer. In order to gain this master of infiltration’s loyalty for your suicide mission, Shepard will have to help Kasumi steal the mysterious graybox. If you take her all the way to Mass Effect 3, you will certainly be treated to some memorable scenes with her.

#6: Yatagarasu “Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth” (2009)

Now here’s a thief that’s so illusive that nobody knows what he or she looks like, even throwing Miles Edgeworth for a loop. Whoever Yatagarasu is, they make a practice of stealing information from corrupt corporations and exposing their illegal deeds to the media. Throughout Edgeworth’s spin off game, various characters like Kay Faraday and Calisto Yew claim to be the great thief. As for Yatagarasu’s true identity? That’s a spoiler too big to reveal here.

#5: Nathan Drake “Uncharted” Series (2007-)

If you put Indiana Jones and Han Solo in a blender, you’d get a character a lot like Nathan Drake. One half daring treasure hunter and the other half sarcastic scoundrel, Drake has an unquenchable thirst for adventure that’s taken him all over the world. Even at a young age, Drake was a natural at snatching up legendary artifacts, leading to his career as a thief for hire. His exploits might not always end with a golden payday, but you can always count on him stealing the girl’s heart.

#4: Michael de Santa “Grand Theft Auto V” (2013)

Almost every protagonist in the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise is essentially a thief, but none have pulled off more heists than Michael de Santa. Owing everything he has to stealing, Michael attempts to maintain a legit lifestyle. But when case of mistaken identity results in a mix-up with the Mexican Cartel, Michael is forced to go back to his criminal ways for a few dollars more. Along the way, Michael hopes to reunite his chronically messed up family, adjust to a changing world, and ultimately seek out the American dream. Who says criminals can’t have it all?

#3: Carmen Sandiego “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” series (1985-)

Although Carmen Sandiego is the title character, her games are never actually told from her perspective. Instead, the player is employed by the ACME Detective Agency’s overacting chief to track down the elusive woman in red. Carmen is so charismatic and cunning, however, that part of you wants to see her get away. We can’t help but sing Carmen’s praises, in addition to singing her catchy theme song. Whether you capture her or not, the manhunt is still bound to be fun, humorous, and of course, very educational.

#2: Garrett “Thief” Series (1998-)

Many thieves prefer to work alone, but Garrett of the “Thief” series is especially cold-hearted towards the rest of humanity. Where other outlaws in video games make thievery look lively and glamorous, Garrett makes it look like a lonely and solitary life. That’s not to say it doesn’t look like fun though, as Garrett’s impressive array of trick arrows are enough to make Oliver Quinn jealous. Before we pull off one last job with our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: Karliah “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” (2011) Rouge the Bat “Sonic Adventure 2” (2001) Elves “Golden Axe” Series (1989-)
