“Pokemon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life” (2009) Don’t look a gift pokemon in the mouth, something that Marcus should really think about. After his village is given the Jewel of Life from Arceus, it goes from desert wasteland, into a blooming oasis. However, his teacher wishes to honor Arceus’s agreement and return the Jewel. Marcus, however, believes that the jewel belongs to them, and he’d kill anyone who got in his way. Using his pokemon’s hypnotic abilities, he attempts to kill Arceus in two separate timelines. Master planner and manipulator, Marcus is not someone to be trifled with, unless that someone is Ash.

“Pokemon: Zoroark: Master of Illusions” (2010) Already obsessed with power at a young age, Grings gained the power to see into the future, at the cost of destroying all flora life in and around Crown City. When his power began to wane, he decided to use another time ripple, not caring about a repeat of the previous disaster. Using legendary pokemon and threatening to kill Zoroark’s child, he nearly succeeds -proving to be one heartless man. However, Kodai’s lust for power blinded him, as Zoroark’s illusions are trickier than he’d expect...

“Pokemon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages” (2015) Hoopa on its own is an extremely powerful pokemon, able to open portals and summon nearly anything. Naturally, it’s just a mischievous, lovable little guy; but in its Unbound form, it was too powerful - almost causing untold destruction before being sealed away. This dark shadow of Hoopa grew in power, holding much hatred and darkness inside the bottle, possessing anyone who touched it to commit evil deeds. Eventually freed, it intended to finish what it started by causing mass destruction, with only little Hoopa to oppose it.

“Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea” (2006) The Phantom is your stereotypical pirate - sailing -in this case submersing- through the sea, in pursuit of the grandest treasures. Unlike most stereotypes though, The Phantom goes above and beyond, as he wishes to rule over the sea, using Manaphy and the Sea Crown to do so. While his methods are dastardly, The Phantom comes across as more humorous than most Pokemon Movie villains -overusing catchphrases, and coming across as quite bumbling sometimes. Not every villain has to be so cruel.

“Pokemon 4Ever: Celebi: Voice of the Forest” (2001) Speaking of cruel and hateful, Iron Masked Marauder has it in spades. An elite member of Team Rocket, his goal is to set out and acquire Celebi to give it to Giovanni. Yet this was all a ruse, as the Marauder’s true intentions are revealed - wanting to usurp Giovanni and take his place as leader of Team Rocket. Hurting and torturing humans and pokemon alike to get what he wants; he came pretty close to succeeding, but his willingness to throw away allies ultimately led to his downfall.

“Pokemon: The Movie 2000: The Power of One” (1999) Some seek out Pokemon to do battle, some wish to make new friends, and then others just want to catch ‘em all. Unfortunately, some of those collectors can take it a bit too far, especially in the case of Lawrence III. A collector of the rarest antiquities, he set his sights on a much bigger prize: The Legendary Birds, specifically Lugia. Caring not for the safety of the birds, or the world and its people, he goes to great lengths to get what he wants.

“Pokemon Heroes: Latios & Latias” (2002) It seems like Team Rocket’s elite members are saved only for the movies, probably why they can’t catch Pikachu. Unlike other elite members of Team Rocket, however, these sister trouble-makers are out to acquire The Soul Dew and power over an ancient machine; the DMA. Both are extremely good at their job, acquiring both easily, and ready to cause some mayhem. Unfortunately, Oakley’s megalomania works against the two, as she turns psychotic while using the DMA, nearly destroying the city and world.

“Pokemon: Jirachi: Wish Maker” (2003) Failures as a scientist can be quite daunting, enough to create an obsessive desire to succeed. Butler is no different - after failing to create a Groudon, he was fired from Team Magma. He sought other means to create a successful experiment in the wish maker pokemon, Jirachi. Caring not for what this would mean for Jirachi or the world, Butler used the pokemon to successfully create Groudon… but a horrible cost. The Groudon was an imitation, primal and devouring everything in its wake.

“Pokemon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior” (2009) Emotional instability and power lust is a terrifying combination. Zero is a brilliant man; having studied under Newton Graceland, the two managed to create a means of traveling between dimensions. Unfortunately, Zero saw this as a means to rule over the Reverse World, using Giratina’s power for his own means. Unlike most Pokemon villains, Zero truly believes his actions are righteous, unaware of his own destructive nature. He can go from calm to outright crazy when things don’t go his way, acting less like a master villain and more like a child on a tantrum. Before we take a look at the best movie villain there ever was, let’s take a look at some honorable mentions.
