Top 10 Funniest Victorious Running Gags
These jokes knew just how to make comedy shine. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Funniest Victorious Running Gags.
For this list, we’re paying tribute to some of the funniest catchphrases, character quirks, and recurring jokes that continuously pop up around Hollywood Arts. If you’ve never guffawed at these gags, there WILL be spoilers.
#10: “NO!”
Whenever something annoying is about to happen –such as someone slurping their soup, Cat trying to hug her, or Cat just… being Cat, Jade’s first instinct is to cut them off by loudly screaming “NO”. It’s hard to tell what makes this joke so funny – how loudly Jade can project her anger, or how the most innocent thing provokes this deafening outburst. While her impulsive shouting is usually pretty effective, it doesn’t stop someone from making the same mistake later on. You’d think by now people would’ve learned NOT to get on Jade’s bad side –though it does lead to hilarity every time it happens, so we’ll give it a pass.
#9: Feminine Robbie
Poor Robbie Shapiro always seems to get the short end of the stick. Among his many misfortunes is how he usually gets ridiculed for just not being very masculine. Not just because of his nerdy, wimpy personality, but because he also tends to show off his more feminine side –including, but not limited to, accidentally wearing women’s jeans and publicly admitting to wearing ‘male makeup’. While there’s absolutely zero shame in having a feminine side, people love pushing Robbie’s buttons. And we’d be lying if we said it wasn’t funny to watch.
#8: Trina’s Lack of Talent
Anyone who watches the series knows that Trina is… untalented in every sense of the word. Her singing is tone-deaf, she’s extremely uncoordinated, and her acting is so bad it’s laughable. Unfortunately, she’s completely oblivious about her lack of star power and continuously struts her stuff yet fails every time –proving that she’s either blindingly confident or totally desperate. To be fair, there is actually one thing Trina is pretty good at – hurting people physically. The ironic part is that Trina’s actress, Daniella Monet, is actually very talented in both singing and acting –proving that it takes serious skills to pretend to be laughably bad.
#7: “What’s That Supposed to Mean?!”
Throughout the first season, Cat is a lot less ditzy and slightly more mature… unless anyone accidentally hurts her feelings. Whenever she misinterprets a completely innocent statement or feels personally attacked, her first response is usually to shout in anguish: “What’s that supposed to mean?” What makes this gag even funnier is when the offender clarifies or takes back what they said, Cat just automatically switches back to her bubbly self as if nothing ever happened. Any dedicated Nickelodeon fan might recognize this gag from “The Amanda Show” in their soap opera parody, “Moody’s Point”. We’d like to give extra kudos to “Victorious” for being able to revive an old running gag and make it even funnier.
#6: Sikowitz’s Coconut Addiction
We all have our favorite foods; for Sikowitz, it’s coconuts. In nearly every episode, he can usually be seen carrying a coconut –almost always drinking the milk straight out of it. What makes this so funny? Apparently, coconut milk gives him “visions” like a hallucinogenic drug. This definitely sheds some light on his eccentric personality given how often he drinks the stuff. He’ll even drink out of a coconut that’s rotten to the core! Thankfully, aside from the hallucinations, the drinks don’t seem to have any negative side effects, unless you count Sikowitz getting a vision so trippy that he’d allow someone as untalented as Trina to attend Hollywood Arts …oops.
#5: “No One Likes You!”
Don’t you just love Jade’s blunt honesty? Whenever Trina decides to tag along against the gang’s wishes, Jade is always the one to tell Trina that no one likes her, loudly and without shame. To her credit, Trina can be irritating at the worst times and has no right butting into the gang’s business. But Jade also doesn’t have the greatest reputation –the only difference being that Jade takes her infamy in stride. Either way, it does make for another great example of Jade’s rudeness played for laughs. Plus, it’s kind of nice to see that there’s someone she hates more than Tori.
#4: Tori’s “Perfect” Cheekbones
It’s plain to see how Tori is as “pretty as a pickle”; but every once in a while, someone makes a comment about her most prominent features – her cheekbones. Some have said that they’re like “perfect little sugar plums”, some call her “ Cheekbones” as a fitting nickname, and Ke$ha herself has even asked if they were real. This is definitely one of the more innocent running gags because it involves complimenting Tori with a quirky recurring throwaway comment; plus, even we have to admit that anyone would be jealous of a near-perfect face like hers.
#3: André’s Grandma
Sometime before the series even began, André’s grandmother lost her mind and is now afraid of everything – her own reflection, ceiling fans, and anyone she doesn’t know . . . it’s a never-ending list. On top of that, the volume of her voice is always cranked up to 11 Seriously, André doesn’t even need to put his phone on speaker for everyone to hear her. In every one of her appearances, she is either panicking over something new, shrieking at the top of her lungs, or both. While it’s funny for us, it gets on André’s nerves real fast. However, it turns out that her fear actually helps him with his songwriting. Ironic, isn’t it?
#2: Cat’s Brother
Out of all of Cat’s random anecdotes, none have been quite as highlighted as the many, many, MANY stories of her estranged off-screen brother. Every story she recounts showcases some of his abnormal quirks ranging from bizarre and questionable to straight up dangerous. It’s clear that Cat is an oddball herself, but based on her stories, she’s definitely more stable than her sibling. Seriously, at least she doesn’t keep fake feet stored in a car trunk. What’s even scarier is that we never get to see him on-screen. There’s a throwaway line on “Henry Danger” suggesting that a villain, played by Ariana Grande’s real-life sibling, is Cat’s brother, but nothing has been confirmed.
Before we unveil our number one pick, here are a few repetitive honorable mentions.
Cat Rejecting Robbie
Northridge Girls
“I’m NOT Andy Samberg!”
Beck’s Hair
#1: “I Don’t Talk Like That!”
One of the biggest staples of “Victorious” is the ongoing rivalry between Tori and Jade. Jade’s favorite and most recurring method of messing with Tori is her unflattering impression of her… where she gives Tori a faux Judy Garland voice. This annoys Tori to no end and she always has to point out that she doesn’t talk like that …yet oddly enough, no one else really backs her up on that. Over time, Jade antagonizes Tori with this gag less and less . . . probably because Tori learned to not let it bother her as much. Regardless, it still makes for one of the funniest recurring jokes of the series and one of the biggest highlights of two of our favorite Nickelodeon frenemies.
