Top 10 ChuckleVision Controversies

Welcome to WatchMojoUK, where well be looking at the largest scandals from the career of Rotherhams most famous comedy duo.

#10: Astronomer Innuendo

Despite being a childrens show, the Chuckle Brothers were witty enough to slip in the occasional grown-up joke. At the time, these were barely given a second thought, probably because childrens TV used to be littered with jokes they wouldnt understand. Nowadays, thats not the case, as proven by the reaction people had when this clip resurfaced in 2021. While running a bread and breakfast, the duo take in an astronomer, who is hilariously looking for the seventh planet in the Solar System. TikTok users were astonished they got away with this, but in fairness, there are probably a lot more children who didnt understand the joke than did.

#9: Greece Crash

Back in 2007, Paul Chuckle had a seriously unfortunate accident on the Greek island of Kefalonia. The star walked away with a broken nose, alongside severely cut and bruised legs, plus a black eye. The photo taken of him after has become an iconic image of Paul Chuckle, which has even been used to spread misinformation. It happened when he went round a steep corner, and was met by a horde of goats being herded. To make matters worse, when trying to recover a group of British tourists spotted him. Instead of lending a hand, they decided to shout to me, to you at him.

#8: CBBCs Average Rating

The official CBBC Twitter account decided to do a tier list of all their most famous shows back in 2019. The tiers were legend tier, top tier, middle tier, and finally hmmm tier at the bottom. Most CBBC kids wouldnt hesitate to put ChuckleVision in the highest tier. It ran for 21 seasons, with the duo becoming loved by multiple generations. Unfortunately, CBBC decided to slam them right at the bottom, in the midddle tier. As expected, many fans were outraged, with some even thinking it was a prank. Turns out it wasnt, and Paul hit back with a tweet expressing his sadness at the decision.

#7: The Leprechaun Joke

Next, we have another joke too mature for childrens television. Once again, it passed by almost entirely unnoticed at release. In 2021 it became viral on TikTok, likely by all the children who grew up watching it, with this joke flying completely over their heads. The joke is about Barry seeing a magical Leprechaun, which is invisible to Paul. The older brother then decides to tickle his invisible friend, in a spot much lower than his chin. Its tough for children to understand the innuendo here, explaining how it went unnoticed for so long. It makes us wonder, how many naughty jokes did they subtly slide into ChuckleVision which are still to be found?

#6: Hitman Promo

The set-up for ChuckleVision is that the pair gets a new job every episode, then usually messes it up so bad theyre given the sack by the end. One job theyve never taken was hitmen for hire, at least not on the show. As a promo for the 2016 Hitman game, the boys were tasked by Square Enix to play real-life Hitman. Its pure hilarity, with Paul turning cold-blooded to get the mission done. It was somewhat controversial, since the pairs target audience is mostly children. As such, many people considered it inappropriate for them to assassinate a Serbian arms dealer.

#5: Death Hoax

Barry Chuckle tragically died in 2018, after struggling with bone cancer for almost two years. Before his unfortunate passing, the brothers were victims of a fair share of death hoaxes. These started after Facebooks rise to popularity, when people were less educated about online misinformation. They got so out of hand in 2010, that Barry had to make a Facebook page just to tell fans he wasnt dead. Rumors then spread to Twitter, but Barry didnt use that, so they were left unaddressed. Children were even writing in torn up about his loss, showing just how far theyd gotten. If only Barrys death in 2018 had been a hoax too, but it was instead the most tragic chapter in the duos career.

#4: ChuckleVisions Cancellation

Do you know why ChuckleVision was canceled in 2009? If so, please let us know in the comments, and also send Paul an email while youre at it, since hes still oblivious. After 21 seasons, the duos monumental series finally came to an end. The brothers were assured thered be another series, but as time went on, nothing came to fruition. Barry & Paul simply thought it was being delayed, but it turned out the CBBC heads thought it would be best to end it. Well, they never told this to the brothers, who were told they had a lifetime contract at the BBC. By 2013, ChuckleVision reruns were pulled from CBBC entirely, upsetting thousands of fans.

#3: Dave Lee Travis Accusations

In November 2012, radio DJ Dave Lee Travis became a target of Operation Yewtree. Two years later, hed been found guilty and given three months in prison. As it turned out, Travis had a history with the Chuckle Brothers, which led to them attending his trial. They gave evidence, telling the court they had no idea about his criminal activities. The major scandal was when the duo took a selfie outside the court, with smiles from cheek to cheek. Quite a few people online thought it was wildly inappropriate, with them seeming to treat it like a jolly day out.

#2: Removal Firm

Up-and-coming business owners might be tempted to use the Chuckle Brothers A-list celebrity status to strengthen their brand. If youre considering this, please get permission beforehand, unlike one business owner in Liverpool did. In 2021, it turned out a removal company had named themselves Chuckle Bros Removals. They were even bold enough to use the brothers faces as their logo. Paul was outraged, saying he found it disgusting on Twitter. Some argued it was a tribute to the duo, which shows a misunderstanding of basic copyright laws. Its unclear if the business has since changed its brand, and also why itd choose a pair so bad at removals to promote them.

#1: Sharing a Britain First Meme

The biggest stain on an almost impeccable career came from Barrys Facebook page in 2015. For some reason, Barry decided to share an anti-immigrant post written by Britain First. For those unaware, theyre a far-right political party, often described as a neo-fascist hate group online. Naturally, most people replied outraged, questioning why Barry would share such a post. The post was later deleted, without a message from either brother. Hopefully, it was an accident, but well never know for sure.
