#10: Ennis Del Mar & Jack Twist “Brokeback Mountain” (2005)

After finding love in an unlikely place while working in the Wyoming mountains, Ennis turns away from what his heart wants and marries his long time fiancée Alma Beers - that is, until his lost flame returns to his life. During their reunion after several years apart, the two cowboys unknowingly share a passionate kiss under the gaze of a heartbroken female. A deafening silence consumes the air as Alma stares on at her husband’s lover and chooses not to utter one single word.

#9: Jack Cole & Cammi “Sideways” (2004)

Top10 Jack Black Lines We Will Never Stop Quoting

The story of a depressed writer and a womanizing fiancé would not be complete without its share of dabblings with the fairer sex. Setting out on a wine drinking road trip across the Santa Ynez Valley, Jack is on the prowl for sexy adventures before tying the knot. However, after hooking up with a waitress who recognises him as an actor, Jack gets a little more than he bargained for. Jack sends his buddy Miles to do his dirty work when he realizes he left his wallet at the scene of the crime, and Miles gets chased across the street by his friend’s conquest’s stark-naked husband for his trouble. Honestly, there aren’t many words that can sum up the hilarity of this long take. One thing's for sure though, it's one of the funniest scenes of infidelity we've both seen.

#8: Rachael’s Exhibition “50/50” (2011)

We can imagine Seth Rogen to be a pretty good friend, but who knew how far he’d go for his bestie? “Whilst on his date” with a dashing young lady, Kyle spies the most hateful sight he could ever behold: his best friend’s girlfriend. But the story doesn’t end here, as Rachael begins to kiss the guy she’s with. And so, like a well-trained assassin, Kyle strikes with a photo. The smug Kyle later shows his sick friend the evidence for his own personal court case with both Rachael and Adam present. The fiery passion for his best friendship is surely what makes this scene; bros before hoes, ladies and gentlemen.

#7: Nick Dunne & Andie Fitzgerald “Gone Girl” (2014)

To those who don’t know the full details of this thrilling story, brace yourselves as it’s about to be spoiled. Though Nick is also caught cheating with Andie by his twin sister Margo, it’s Amy Elliott-Dunne and the mad anger she has for her husband that’s absolutely terrifying. This is especially true after she finds the straw to break the camel’s back. Following her “disappearance,” Amy tells a strange new friend about the discovery of her husband re-enacting their first meeting with a younger student. The flashback ultimately sets the events of the film in motion and is one revelation that tastes bittersweet.

#6: Daniel Cleaver & Lara “Bridget Jones’s Diary” (2001)

#5: Jordan Belfort & Naomi Lapaglia “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013)

Power and money do strange things to people and those things can include snorting cocaine from your mistress’ breasts. Yet the naughty fun simply couldn’t last forever… and the fateful opening of a car door sealed it. The tragedy of the situation was felt in every whimpered shriek uttered by Jordan’s wife Teresa and then she asks the ultimate question. What follows is a silence that’s eventually broken with the tears and memories of their dead marriage, with Jordan only being able to look away. It’s very powerful and emotional moment from a film as frantic and energetic as “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

#4: Benjamin Braddock & Mrs. Robinson “The Graduate” (1967)

Our old friend Darkness comes to creep on Dustin Hoffman once again in this true cinematic classic. Involving himself in the lives of a beautiful older woman and her daughter, Benjamin soon makes his choice of lady known - much to Mrs. Robinson’s dismay and despite her threats to reveal the powerful truth. In this scene, while hoping to maintain a relationship with Elaine, Ben tries to tell the younger Robinson his greatest secret. Yet before he can, it all becomes too clear for her when she sees her mother in the doorway, with Elaine’s thoughts as unfocused as the camera’s lens until clarity slowly returns to both her mind and our view in a literal display of realisation.

3: ‘Little’ Bill’s Wife “Boogie Nights” (1997)

Top 10 Cocaine Scenes in Movies

The life of an Assistant Director is tougher than people think; especially when you have a porn star wife who consistently gets down with other men. Played by real life porn star Nina Hartley, Little Bill’s wife ritually gets freaky and funky, much to embarrassment of William H. Macy. This eventually culminates in a way too public display of affection by his ever so faithful wife. Never has a scene pertaining to getting caught in act been filled with such passive aggression, and there are certainly a lot of them to go round.

#2: Henry Hill & Janice Rossi “GoodFellas” (1990)

Usually hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but even the devil himself would tell this one to calm down. After the revelation of her husband’s affair, Karen awakens her dearly beloved with a frightful gun barrel to the face and questions his loyalty as well as her own. Gazing into her own thoughts, we see her slowly crawl back to reality as she treks through her mind to forgiveness – though this may not have been the best decision for her, considering… As the second Martin Scorsese scene to make the list, it shows the director is certainly a champion of catching others in the act. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: - Cal Weaver & Kate Tafferty “Crazy, Stupid Love” (2011) - Nikki & The History Teacher “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012) - Heidi’s Affair “Old School” (2003) - Leon Phelps & an Unnamed Wife “The Ladies Man” (2000)

#1: Carolyn Burnham & Buddy Kane “American Beauty” (1999)

Loud screams, sounds of distress and even some forgiveness are all fine and dandy for when you catch your unfaithful beloved, but nothing beats Lester Burnham’s reaction to catching his wife in the act. Because their road to tranquillity is filled with many domestic arguments, Carolyn eventually turns to her fantasy crush in the King of Real Estate. When he sees his spouse in the arms of Buddy Kane though, Lester reacts with a sense of pride and victory by drowning himself in the knowledge that he has finally one-upped his crabby wife. The smug smile says it all with Lester never forgetting his superb customer service skills the whole way through. Do you agree with our list? What’s your favourite caught in the act scene?
