#10: Alan Kills Paloma

Before the inaugural series of “The Celebrity Traitors”, nobody would have predicted that Alan Carr would turn out to be the most ruthless, mercenary person in the castle. He began by committing one of the most memorable murders in the series, poisoning Paloma Faith, who just so happens to be one of his oldest friends. Their friendship meant that nobody suspected him, with Paloma herself being shocked when she found out what had happened afterwards. The tabloids claimed that their friendship was over, with Paloma unable to move on from the backstabbing – though they’ve since reunited for podcasts. One thing is clear: if you’re ever around Alan Carr, don’t let him out of your sight.

#9: Ross & Diane

One of series two’s big twists was that Ross and Diane were mother and son, going into the game together and fooling everybody. The way this secret came out, though, was that the contestants were speculating about whether Diane was actually Paul’s mother. Apparently, Diane actually does look like his mum, though as she points out, her hair isn’t naturally red. After this, Diane made the bombshell revelation to the audience that they were family, lying to everybody – even when it was only them and the cameras. They flew under the radar, with Diane just barely able to say goodbye when she was brutally murdered in episode seven.

#8: Harriet Takes the Fall

One of the twists in series four was that Harriet turned out to be Harriet Tyce, a crime novelist and former barrister. Viewers were already aware of this, but nobody in the game was familiar with her books, letting her avoid too much scrutiny. She was faithful, but made the mistake of going after Rachel, one of the most brutal players in “Traitors” history. Though she was bang on the money and Rachel WAS a traitor, Rachel managed to twist it back on her, making her the number one suspect. She ended up encouraging everybody to vote for HER to prove that she was a faithful all along. None of them saw this coming.

#7: Secret Couple

In one of the most “WTF” moments in “Traitors” history, Tom announced over breakfast that fellow contestant Alex was his girlfriend. This came up because a few people were speculating that she might be a traitor – which she wasn’t, they were both faithful – after she was put on trial as a potential murder victim. But the reactions were outrageous. Alex was totally unprepared for the revelation, with Tom clearly panicking, and the other contestants now wondering what else they were lying about since they’d been lying about something so huge. Unsurprisingly, Tom was banished not long after this fiasco.

#6: The Secret Traitor

Series four saw a huge twist, with the addition of a secret, red-cloaked traitor, whose identity was unknown even to the audience and their fellow traitors. The traitors were only allowed to find out who the secret traitor was if one of them got banished. Hugo got booted out in episode three, so Fiona was finally revealed as the secret traitor, brought in to team up with Stephen and Rachel. This twist was absolutely devilish, with Fiona clearly letting all the violence go to her head. She was no longer in charge of making a shortlist for who they were allowed to kill, but not for long; she was ultimately banished in episode six.

#5: Paul vs Miles

Unlike Harriet, Paul actually WAS a traitor back in series two, and it wasn’t long until he was put under a microscope. This came after the shock poisoning of Diane, with her getting locked up in a coffin and sent away having been given a poisoned chalice. It was actually Miles who handed Diane the chalice, but the traitors’ loyalties were soon put to the test, with Miles actually trying to throw Paul under the bus. Fellow traitor Harry looked on as they argued, careful not to incriminate himself by getting too involved. In the end, Miles WAS banished next, though he was followed by Paul very shortly after.

#4: The Seer

So far, this is the only time we’ve seen this seer mechanic come into play, with Francesca – a faithful – winning the seer role late into series 3. She could pick any other player in the game and it would be revealed whether they were a faithful or a traitor. Getting lucky, Frankie picked Charlotte, a traitor! But it all backfired. The finale saw them both getting banished, with Charlotte insisting that Frankie was lying about whether she was a traitor. Not knowing who to trust, the remaining faithfuls had to get rid of them both. Francesca must have been kicking herself, considering she and everybody else in the final were faithful.

#3: Harry Storms to Victory

The second series finale wasn’t as farcical as everything with the seer that came after, but it WAS the first time that a traitor won the game. Remember, if there’s even one traitor left, they get ALL the money, leaving the faithfuls with nothing – and that IS what happened to Harry Clark, one of the most Machiavellian players in “Traitors” history. He fooled EVERYONE, even betraying all of his fellow traitors along the way – Miles, Paul, and finally Andrew; they all got it in the neck. He took away over £95,000 after all that, and has since gone on to appear in multiple other programmes AND write a memoir.

#2: Wilfred Gets Banished

The very first series taught us what to expect from these gripping finales, with traitor Wilfed getting all the way to the final. He was up against Hannah, Aaron, and Meryl, all of them faithful, but ended up getting voted out at the climactic moment when the faithful suspected that there was still a traitor among them. This left him revealing the truth, in tears, while saying that it had been almost impossible to keep lying to them, and that he was actually glad that they were going to get the money rather than him. We can imagine how much the guilt weighs on the traitors if they win.

#1: Nick Turns on Joe

Was this the most gripping moment in “Traitors” history? The first series of the “Celebrity” edition ended with five people in the final, three faithful and two traitors: Alan Carr and Cat Burns. Nick Mohammed and Joe Marler formed an alliance that the public were convinced was going to send them to victory, joining forces against Cat to get her banished first. But the alliance crumbled. Nick grew suspicious, and he and David voted to banish – but they picked Joe, not Alan. The rest is history: Alan won the cash for his chosen charity and burned his bridges with everybody else he’d been in the game with. Nobody could have predicted this at the beginning.
