VOICE OVER: Emily Brayton WRITTEN BY: Cassondra Feltus
The cockroach wasn't the only one who lit up the Met Gala 2023. For this list, we'll be looking at the most stunning, memorable, and show-stopping ensembles from fashion's biggest night, where the theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Our countdown includes Keke Palmer, Salma Hayek, Rita Ora, and more!

#10: Penélope Cruz

One of the first stars to grace this year’s carpet was Met Gala co-chair and Chanel ambassador Penélope Cruz. The Oscar-winning actress chose to wear a beautiful pale blue ballgown from the Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1988 collection. Cruz sparkled in the gemstone-embellished gown that featured a sheer hooded veil draped over her brunette bun, which was perfectly complemented by her soft makeup for the evening. Meanwhile, a leather belt added a bit of edge to the fairytale-like ensemble.

#9: Keke Palmer

Keeping with shades of blue, “Nope” actress Keke Palmer arrived wearing a custom Sergio Hudson sequined tweed dress with a blue cloak long enough to double as a train. The colorful gown reportedly featured more than 12,000 Swarovski crystal and pearl embellishments. Palmer rocked the eye-catching strapless gown just months after having her first child with her boyfriend Darius Jackson. The new mama showed off her curvaceous figure in a fitted bodice. Topped off with a smoky eye and a big hairstyle, Palmer was more than dressed to impress.

#8: Yara Shahidi

In the sea of famous faces and extravagant looks, Yara Shahidi still stood out in a piece from Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2008 mermaid collection. The young actress/activist was stunning in the pearl-embellished corset atop the short ruched skirt and long mermaid tail-like drape. She accessorized with Cartier jewelry and brown Jimmy Choos, and perfectly matched her makeup to the bronze tones of her ensemble with warm brown shades on her eyes and lined lips. While also giving siren vibes, Shahidi said that she was going for a ‘90s supermodel look and we say she definitely nailed it!

#7: Salma Hayek

The Met Gala carpet may be beige, but Salma Hayek had us seeing red in this fiery Gucci gown. The actress donned a patent corset and layered tulle skirt with a centered lace slit and a bow in the middle. Homage was paid to one of Karl Lagerfield’s signatures with the strings of pearls draped over her shoulders. Pinault finished off the head-to-toe crimson look with a matching red lip and tulle rosettes adorning a ponytail down her back. And though the cascading skirt keeps them mostly covered, we’re living for those red platform pumps.

#6: Anne Hathaway

With her recent Versace campaign debuting a month ahead of the big night, it’s no surprise Anne Hathaway showcased a piece from the Italian fashion house. But we were still shook by the daring body-hugging dress. The Oscar winner wowed in a strapless white tweed gown with cutouts held together with Versace’s iconic golden safety pins, detailed with pearls, of course. Hathaway’s half-updo added to the sophisticated yet bold look, as did the matching opera-style gloves. And as if the gorgeous detailing wasn’t enough, “The Devil Wears Prada” star accessorized with a Bulgari choker.

#5: Anok Yai

As a model, Anok Yai is no stranger to wearing high fashion. She dazzled on the Met Gala steps in a runway-worthy strapless Prabal Gurung structured minidress. The glittery chandelier-esque gold and silver ensemble was second only to Yai’s unbelievably beautiful glowing skin. Prabal Gurung served plenty of glitz, but the Mindi Mond NY jewelry further glammed up the overall futuristic shimmer. The fishnet shades and black mesh train were unexpected but cool additions to this overall out of this world look.

#4: Gisele Bündchen

This stunning model may have just gone through a public divorce, but don’t call Gisele Bündchen’s Chanel ensemble a revenge dress because our girl is thriving - and in a wedding dress, no less. If the white column gown from Karl Lagerfeld's 2007 couture bridal collection looks familiar, it’s because the beauty first wore it for a shoot in 2006. Bündchen channeled her inner angel with the matching feathered cape, perfect for the many twirls she did for spectators. Her natural waves, light makeup, and radiant smile seal the deal for this ethereal look.

#3: Jessica Chastain

A few stars took the night’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, and really went with it, including Ms. Jessica Chastain. The redhead transformed into a blonde to pay homage to the late designer and his iconic look. Hairstylist Renato Campora tamed the icy platinum wig into a sleek, straight style to go with Chastain’s long, all-black strapless and layered sheer gown. And the actress was all about statement accessories with matching opera gloves, a chunky silver necklace, and of course, Karl-inspired black shades. But what really sold the look was the star’s undeniable confidence.

#2: Rita Ora

If there’s one color Karl Lagerfeld is known for, it’s black. And Rita Ora gave us glamorous witchy vibes in this Prabal Gurung masterpiece. By the time the actress/singer ascended the Met steps, she’d already made everyone’s best dressed list in this sheer and lace gown showing off a torso with exposed boning and a dramatic train. Ora was joined by her filmmaker/actor husband, Taika Waititi, who also looked quite dapper. And can we talk about the nails? Ora’s manicure featured long chains that pull together her bewitching look.

Rihanna's Savage X Fenty VS Victoria's Secret

Arriving fashionably late was one of the most anticipated stars of the night, but she was definitely worth the wait. Rihanna, known for her trendy maternity fashion, and being a style icon in general, walked the red carpet with partner A$AP Rocky in a creamy white billowing gown. Her upper half was covered in large white roses until the singer removed it, giving us a better look at her stacked jewels and bold red lip, as well as her baby bump. The expecting mother was simply glowing, but that’s just Rihanna. Heads were turned. Jaws were dropped. She slayed.
