Grumping his way to the first spot on our list is Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge in this animated version of Charles Dickens’ classic story. Although the narrative is just as familiar as it is timeless, the most welcome and entertaining edition in this outing are the exquisite motion captured visuals, that brought a flair unseen in prior adaptions of the tale. In this movie, we follow a mother trying to do her best for her two children in the midst of a family crisis as her husband has been out of work for several months. Matters seem hopeless and all happiness is fading just as quickly as the holidays are arriving. Luckily, an angel arrives just in the nick of time to alleviate the hardships this family is experiencing, and takes their attention away from their woes and to more important things; like each other. The film encourages us not to lose sight of what Christmas is truly all about: togetherness. Presents are nice, but it is the love and connection we hold dear with the ones closest to us that makes this time of year truly magical.
#8: “Recess Christmas: Miracle on Third Street” (2001) If you are unfamiliar with the Recess cartoon series, all you have to know is that a group of mischievous kids continuously get on the nerves of their teachers over the course of the school year. In this Christmas special, said teachers are reminiscing about the numerous times that TJ Detweiler and his group of rascally pals have gotten into trouble. When the teachers suddenly become trapped in a snowbank, it’s up to the same kids that they were just labelling as a pain in the neck to get them out. After TJ and the gang successfully help them escape, the professors ultimately can’t help but admit that the youngsters aren’t so bad, as everyone comes together spreading nothing but joy for the Christmas season.

When Pooh bear and the other cuddly creatures of the Hundred Acre Wood write a letter to Santa, it seems like everyone except for Pooh himself becomes increasingly greedy with their demands, completely losing sight of what Christmas is all about. It’s Pooh’s determination without expecting anything in return that brings a heart-warming touch to the movie, reminding us that the greatest gift is of giving rather than receiving. Doing our part, we give you the added recommendation of “Winnie the Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year”. Either choice is as sweet as honey.

On the third day of Christmas, Walt Disney gave to us… not one, not two, but three movies all packed into one! That’s right, three Christmas themed storylines starring the mouse and many of his friends and would’ja believe that not one of them outshines the others? Each story stands out in its own special way, with their own fun plots and meaningful morals packed within. No matter which one you choose to watch, you are in for quite the treat.
#5: “Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas” (1997)

Set during the events of the original Beauty and the Beast, this film chronicles the valiant efforts of Belle and company as they try to convince the Beast about the importance and value of Christmas. The Beast naturally resents the idea of the holiday, as it is a constant reminder of the time when he was transformed into the monstrous creature he currently is. However, if anyone can get through that thick fuzzy exterior to the big softie within, it’s undoubtedly Belle. Andc’mon, how could you not with the foot tapping songs she brings with her? Wonderful animation, beautiful musical compositions and a great message for youngsters earns this one a spot on our list.
#4: “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993)

This animated adventure from renowned filmmakers Henry Selick and Tim Burton was bound to show up on this list at some point, as it is deemed to be a classic in every sense of the word. Although the argument jumps back and forth between whether or not this is truly a Halloween or Christmas flick, we feel obliged to lean towards the latter as the bouncy and cheerful joy that Christmas provides makes up a large portion of the film’s narrative. Jack Skellington, Sally, ‘Sandy Claws’ and the rest of the lively cast of characters, along with those incredible musical numbers make this one nightmare that we don’t mind reliving every year during the holidays.
#3: “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” (1983)

Told you this Christmas classic would pop up again! This time, it is none other than Mickey Mouse and other popular Disney mascots playing the part of the many characters in the novel. Mickey Mouse as Bob Cratchit is one of the many examples of the film’s impeccable portrayals of Disney characters playing these nostalgic roles, with Jiminy Cricket, Willie the Giant and Pete playing the spirits that visit Scrooge being spot on. This update of the Dickens story dropped much of the doom and gloom that the original had in spades, instead replacing it with a more buoyant and upbeat sense of fun that is more than appreciated to help us get into the holiday cheer.

Delivering gifts to all the boys and girls of the world seems like a daunting task to take on, a job that we commend ol’ Saint Nick for pulling off every single year. Unfortunately for average joe Scott Calvin, played by Tim Allen, after witnessing Father Christmas take a nasty tumble off of his roof, it’s now his responsibility to take up the mantle of being the jolly man in the red suit. No pressure. The pun in the film’s title should be enough to indicate the goofy charm that will be provided in a viewing of this offbeat Christmas adventure, as we watch Calvin’s hilarious exploits as he tries his hardest to fill the massive boots and belly of the real Santa Claus. The film is essentially a retelling of the Charles Dickens Christmas classic “A Christmas Carol”. If you ever felt that story was a little on the grim side, you’re in luck as this Muppet interpretation spices up the original with all the catchy music and zany humor that we’ve come to expect from this timelessly endearing franchise. We already fully understood the moral of the story, but there is just something about the way that those fuzzy little Muppets put on the show that taps into our Christmas spirits even more.
