Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most badass scenes in Bleach. #10: Kira the Executioner With not much screen time compared to other characters, Izuru Kira is widely considered to be one of the most underrated characters in Bleach, and it’s moments like this that prove exactly why that’s the case. Taking on the bird-like Abirama Redder, the Lieutenant of the 3rd Division repeatedly strikes the 22nd Arrancar’s wings, multiplying their weight until they’re pinned to the ground. With no way of escaping, Kira shows exactly why his Zanpakutō has such a unique shape, and executes him mercilessly. This isn’t the only time Kira has shown how effortlessly badass he is; he aura farms hard later in the series after returning to battle despite getting a massive hole blasted through his chest by the Sternritter Bazz-B. #9: Ichigo Relocates Aizen After spending three whole months of intensive training inside the Dangai, Ichigo was more than ready to take down Aizen, arriving on the scene in a cool and collected manner with his father on his shoulders. Sporting a longer hairdo than we’re used to, Ichigo tells Aizen they should move away from Karakura Town, and immediately interrupts Aizen’s rebuff by grabbing him by the face and dragging him miles away to an unpopulated area. Ichigo doing this to any villain would be badass in itself, but the fact that he’s doing it to Aizen of all people while in his fused Hōgyoku state completely flips the power dynamic and shows he is on an entirely different level. #8: Renji’s Close Range Blast Renji and Ishida’s battle against Szayelaporro Granz is often overlooked due to the shocking conclusion of the followup fight later down the line involving Mayuri Kurotsuchi. We’ve gotta give it credit though, as it has some pretty memorable moments, including this scene where Renji risks everything. In a desperate bid to win, Renji binds himself to the Espada with his Zanpakutō Zabimaru. Right before firing off a point blank Hadō #31: Shakkahō Renji stares Szayelaporro right in the face and tells him that he’s a little rough around the edges when it comes to performing Kido spells. True to his words, the technique ends up enveloping them both in a gigantic explosion, showcasing how far Renji is willing to go! #7: Ichigo Stops Grimmjow Ichigo’s showdown with Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez is one of the best fights in the series; however, its most badass moment comes right as Ichigo is seemingly defeated. As the 6th Espada lunges towards the substitute Shinigami, Orihime’s cries bring him to his senses. Ichigo then effortlessly stops the Arrancar’s attack with just his bare hand, starting one of the series' most iconic scenes. He follows it up by telling Grimmjow he can’t afford to lose, right before slicing him with a devastating attack. #6: Full Hollow Ichigo Devastates Ulquiorra It’s really saying something when Ichigo getting a huge hole shot through his chest by Ulquiorra Cifer isn’t the biggest moment of the episode. Despite being effectively dead, Ichigo’s intense desire to protect Orihime triggers a brand new Hollow transformation within him. Taking on a badass appearance more similar to a Vasto Lorde, Ichigo enters a berserk-like state and completely turns the table against the Espada who only a few moments ago completely overwhelmed him. It’s a ridiculously one-sided beatdown, with the fight culminating when Ichigo stops Ulquiorra’s Lanza del Relámpago with his bare hands and strikes him down. Even after the battle is decisively won, Ichigo shows absolutely no mercy, mindlessly attacking Ulquiorra's incapacitated body and firing a point-blank Cero to finish him off. #5: Kenpachi’s Bankai With Gerard Valkyrie's miracle powers making him stronger every time he took damage, the giant Quincy is able to overwhelm some of Soul Society’s top Soul Reapers, Kenpachi Zaraki included. In a desperate bid to defeat the ever-growing enemy, Kenpachi unleashes his Bankai for the first time, entering a berserker state with red skin and horns, much like that of an Oni. Catching Gerard's massive fist with his teeth, the captain of the 11th division violently yanks his head back and tears the Quincy's entire arm off. Despite being several times bigger than him, Kenpachi easily slices the Quincy into pieces and sends the giant flying. Kenpachi may not put an end to him in this state, but he permanently cemented his reputation as the Soul Society's most terrifying, primal weapon. #4: Aizen’s Heel Turn Aizen’s apparent death during the Soul Society arc was one of the most shocking moments in early Bleach, but his ultimate return turned everything on its head. Right after Ichigo’s dramatic battle with Byakuya, it is revealed that Aizen faked his death, masterminded the execution, and betrayed the Gotei 13. A desperate Ichigo teams up with Renji to attack, but the treacherous captain stops Ichigo's Bankai sword with just a single finger, instantly silencing the iconic background track “Number One.” Aizen tops off the legendary betrayal by removing his glasses, slicking back his hair, and ascending to Hueco Mundo. #3: Demi-Hollowfied Ichigo While duking it out against Yhwach on his throne, Ichigo channels his Quincy spiritual power in order to awaken his inner hollow form. Ichigo’s appearance is similar in ways to the fully hollowfied form he used against Ulquiorra, with just one horn protruding from his head. However unlike back then, this time he’s able to keep his consciousness completely under control. Just as Yhwach anticipates Ichigo’s next attack, the Substitute Shinigami pulls out a brand new trick, combining a Gran Rey Cero with a Getsuga Tensho to strike the Quincy King with a powerful new technique known as the Cero Creciente. #2: Yamamoto’s Bankai For years, fans had been pining to see what Yamamoto’s Bankai was like. The Captain-Commander of the entire Gotei 13 surely has to have something incredible to match his rank right? Well suffice to say, the Zanka no Tachi certainly brought the heat in the battle against Yhwach. By condensing all of Ryūjin Jakka’s flames into a single blade, Yamamoto can erase anything it touches from existence. Its power is so great that the heatwave begins to vaporize all the moisture in the realm. The real defining moment of this scene came when Yamamoto summons an army of skeletons of those who had fallen victim to his flames in the past. As we all know now, the Yhwach he fought ended up being an imposter, but that doesn’t take away how incredibly metal this moment is. #1: Ichigo Saves Rukia With the Sōkyoku, a gigantic blade taking on the form of a fiery phoenix lunging towards a restrained Rukia, her execution was all but guaranteed. That is until Ichigo makes a sudden appearance, blocking it with his Zanpakutō and then destroying the base of the execution stand to free her. The visual of Ichigo carrying Rukia in his arm whilst wearing a badass cloak is something that is etched into the minds of all Bleach fans to this day. Of course, Ichigo’s badassery doesn’t stop here, as he proceeds to take on three pursuing lieutenants. One by one he effortlessly takes them out, not even needing to use his sword in the process.
