Every Single Upcoming Disney+ Movie

The Disney Vault is open and it has a few new additions. Welcome to MsMojo and today we’ll be discussing Every Single Upcoming Disney+ Film. For this list, we’re taking a look at all the original movies set to make their debut on the Disney+ streaming service. We’ve excluded “The Imagineering Story,” which started out as a feature film, but has since been extended into a 6-part documentary series. “Lady and the Tramp” Release Date: November 12th, 2019 Unlike the theatrical remakes of “Dumbo,” “Aladdin,” and “The Lion King,” this live-action version of “Lady and the Tramp” is being exclusively released on Disney+ with Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux providing the voices of the titular canine couple. Although the story is being told through a live-action lens, director Charlie Bean comes from an extensive animation background, notably working as a director and executive producer for Disney’s “Tron: Uprising.” (xref) The streaming service has a couple more remakes lined up, including a live-action “The Sword in the Stone” from “28 Weeks Later” director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and a live-action “Peter Pan” from “Pete’s Dragon” director David Lowery. “The Phineas and Ferb Movie: Candace Against the Universe” Release Date: TBA 2020 On the animation front, Disney+ will release a short film entitled “Lamp Life,” which explores what happened to Bo Peep prior to the events of “Toy Story 4.” It was announced back in 2011 that “Toy Story 3” writer Michael Arndt was attached to scribe a “Phineas and Ferb” movie. When the hit animated series aired its final episode in 2015, though, many fans jumped to the conclusion that the movie had ceased development. It appears summer isn’t over yet, however, as the “Phineas and Ferb” movie is officially happening via Disney+ with the reported title of “Candace Against the Universe.” “Stargirl” Release Date: TBA 2020 Gaining popularity after President Obama purchased a copy for his daughters, Jerry Spinelli’s acclaimed young adult novel was bound to get the screen treatment sooner or later. This coming-of-age tale follows a young girl as she transitions from a homeschooled education to the conformist world of high school. Disney+’s film adaptation is being directed by Julia Hart with her husband Jordan Horowitz of “La La Land” acting as a producer. Singer turned actress Grace VanderWaal makes her acting debut as Susan ‘Stargirl’ Caraway in a cast that also includes Giancarlo Esposito. “Magic Camp” Release Date: TBA 2019 Adam DeVine goes from singing a cappella to counseling a group of underdog magicians in this family-friendly comedy. The legendary Steve Martin conceived the story for “Magic Camp” with the script eventually getting passed on to Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who’ve worked on shows like “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “How I Met Your Mother.” The film’s premise kind of sounds like “Meatballs” with a magic touch, which is sure to offer great comedic potential when you have Mark Waters of “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls” behind the camera. “Noelle” Release Date: TBA 2019 This Christmas comedy was initially set to be released theatrically, but Disney instead decided to give their streaming subscribers a special holiday gift. With echoes of “Arthur Christmas” and “Fred Claus,” the film centers on Santa’s daughter, who’s called upon to fill her father’s boots as a clock ticks down to December 25th. Anna Kendrick stars as the eponymous Noelle Claus with Bill Hader, Billy Eichner, and Shirley MacLaine rounding out a talented supporting cast. “Timmy Failure” Release Date: TBA 2020 Tom McCarthy received an Academy Award for his work on the Best Picture-winning “Spotlight.” For Disney fans, though, McCarthy is best known for his writing contributions to “Christopher Robin” and Pixar’s “Up.” McCarthy will direct and co-write this adaptation of Stephan Pastis’s book series, which follows the misadventures of an 11-year-old detective and his imaginary polar bear. Timmy Failure is known for living up to his dubious name, but Disney may very well have a success on their hands. “Togo” Release Date: TBA 2020 If you grew up in the ‘90s, chances are you’re familiar with Amblimation’s “Balto,” which was loosely based on a real-life sled dog who delivered medicine to sick children during a diphtheria outbreak. What you might not know is that Balto only stepped in for the final stretch of the 1925 serum run to Nome. It was actually a dog named Togo who led the longest and most arduous part of the journey. Disney will finally give this dog his day in a live-action feature film starring Willem Dafoe as Togo’s owner, Leonhard Seppala. “29 Dates” Release Date: TBA “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” wound up being a huge hit for Netflix. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Disney+ leapt at the opportunity to adapt Melissa de la Cruz’s “29 Dates,” another romance novel about a teenage girl of Korean descent. Before the book was even published, Disney won the film rights in a bidding war. Considering that De la Cruz has also written tie-in novels for the “Descendants” franchise, we can see why Disney has such faith in her work. “3 Men and a Baby” Release Date: TBA 1987’s “Three Men and a Baby” was actually a remake of a French comedy whose title translates to “Three Men and a Cradle.” The popularity of the 1987 film went on to inspire several foreign remakes, as well as a direct sequel. Although there was talk of a third movie entitled “Three Men and a Bride,” it looks like we’ll instead be getting another American remake through Disney+. The streaming service has several more potential live-action remakes/reboots on the table, including new versions of “Father of the Bride,” “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” and “The Parent Trap.” “Don Quixote” Release Date: TBA After spending nearly 30 years in development limbo, director Terry Gilliam finally managed to produce his passion project, “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.” Now, Disney will be delivering their own take on Miguel de Cervantes’ classic novel with writer Billy Ray of “The Hunger Games” and “Captain Phillips.” Disney is reportedly taking an over-the-top approach to the source material akin to “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Like Gilliam, Disney has tried multiple times to produce a “Don Quixote” movie and hopefully their latest attempt doesn’t hit another roadblock. “Flora & Ulysses” Release Date: TBA Kate DiCamillo’s Newbery Medal-winning children’s novel puts a fresh spin on the superhero genre. The story centers on a cynical comic book enthusiast who becomes convinced that a squirrel has acquired superpowers after it survives an accident with a vacuum cleaner. The book was praised for its heart, humor, and identifiable heroine. In Disney’s hands, the material should have all the makings of a contemporary classic similar to “Lilo & Stitch.” You will believe a squirrel can fly. “The Grimm Legacy” Release Date: TBA The Brothers Grimm have inspired for more than a few Disney classics. Their fairy tales also provided the basis for Polly Shulman’s trilogy of young adult novels. “The Grimm Legacy” thus seems like a natural fit for Disney+ with plenty of franchise potential. David Gleeson, who co-wrote the 2019 biopic “Tolkien,” is slated to scribe this film adaptation, which revolves around a group of teens who come into the possession of items right out of Grimm folklore. “The Paper Magician” Release Date: TBA Another popular young adult trilogy, “The Paper Magician” was a breakout success for author Charlie N. Holmberg. Calling the main character from “Kubo and the Two Strings” to mind, the books tell the tale of a magically-inclined girl who can manipulate paper creatures. Allison Shearmur, whose credits include various “Star Wars” and “Hunger Games” movies, is slated to produce a feature-length adaptation. Like a blank piece of paper, the possibilities are endless for this one. “Sister Act 3” Release Date: TBA “Sister Act” proved to be one of the biggest smashes of Whoopi Goldberg’s career, spawning a sequel and a Tony-nominated musical. Although there’ve been reports of a remake, Disney seems to be focusing on another sequel for now. “Sister Act 3” has enlisted Regina Hicks of “Insecure” and Karin Gist of “Star” to write the screenplay. After well over 25 years, we’re eager to see if Deloris Van Cartier can get back in the habit.
