Dogs Life (2003)

Dogs Life is already a super weird game. The mechanics behind being a dog are interesting, sure, but there is a little too much toilet humor. Were not being prudish - just identifying something being excessive that isnt really implied from any of the marketing. But thats not even the part that makes Dogs Life cursed. No, its cursed because of the character animation. There are some really well animated moments, but there are plenty of times where faces look off and expressions arent the cleanest. It ends up looking like this game came out of someones fever dreams.

Monsters, Inc. (2001)

Speaking of good character animation, you would think that a game based on a Pixar movie would try to achieve decent character design and animation. Alas, that is not the case here. Sully looks like a half-shaved, mangy bear while Mike looks like hes forever stuck in that 1000-yard stare. Is he constipated? Is he having Vietnam flashbacks? Who can tell? All we know is that our two heroes look so out of whack that they actually detract from what should be a lively monster world.

The Cat in the Hat (2003)

This game is a trip. Although, what else would you expect from a game based on a Dr. Seuss story let alone a game based on the 2003 movie, The Cat in the Hat? While there are plenty of bizarre creatures and environments to see, The Cat in the Hat is another level of mesmerizing. Thats not what gets our skin crawling, though. The Cat himself is modeled in such an odd way that its almost like they cut out Mike Myerss face and pasted it onto a character model. Quinn, played by Alec Baldwin in the movie, also looks like he was ripped straight from GoldenEye 007. It doesnt help that some of the character animation looks stiff.

Chulip (2002)

A game centered entirely on kissing people? That is the theme of Chulip. Sounds like a game that could be innocent and wholesomeuntil you start to actually play the game. Chulip is honestly a more frightening game than we were led to believe. Not only are the characters designed with absurd proportions and varying, oversized head sizes, but almost everyone you meet is either demoralizing or downright hostile towards you. Its enough to make Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth seem like a welcoming village made of candy and rainbows.

Twisted Metal: Black (2001)

Okay, we know weve been picking on games that look weird. What about some more horror-centric games? Well, Twisted Metal: Black is definitely cursed in the sense that you will never forget the graphic imagery. In cutscenes, youll learn about how each character found themselves in Blackfield Asylum, and their backstories are visceral. Revenge, hallucinations, cannibalism even - it all gets pretty disturbing, especially considering none of the Twisted Metal games before Black were this intense.

Katamari Damacy (2004)

Yeah, we need something bright and cheery after that last entry. Katamari Damacy will definitely lift your spirits up in some ways, but you may still question your sanity while playing. This PS2 classic is loaded with all kinds of weird visuals going on. Why is there a random group of dudes with pompadours? Why is there a race track infested with milk and cows and cow-patterned objects? Why does the King of Cosmos show off his bulge in front of us? We dont know! We dont have the answers! But at least the music slaps.

The Haunted Mansion (2003)

A video game based on a famous Disney theme park attraction? The Haunted Mansion could make for a spooky good time until you start your playthrough. Surprisingly, The Haunted Mansion is far from being as mildly intense as the ride and instead leans heavily into being an actual horror game. Even for its time, the visuals were detailed enough to make ghosts, ghouls, and spiders feel as threatening as the enemies youd find in, say, Silent Hill. Unfortunately, not many folks gave it the time of day as everyone was too focused on the Eddie Murphy movie that had released roughly around the same time as the game.

Siren (2003)

While kids were freaking out over The Haunted Mansion, adults were facing their own newfound fears thanks to Siren. From start to finish, Siren is absolutely stressful in how enemies move around, and the ability to see their perspective, while useful in gameplay, is terrifying as you have no control over their movement. The noises they make are equally alarming to the point where you might keep yourself up at night thinking about it. As far as horror games go, Siren is definitely the most cursed.

The Urbz: Sims in the City (2004)

The Sims can be a rather goofy series, but when youre trying to center the game entirely on a certain culture or community, its silly antics dont match up. The Urbz: Sims in the City has you attending parties and events filled with bling and hip-hop music in order to build up your popularity within various communities. How does one do that? Well, drop stink bombs on people you dont like, tickle people you do like, breathe fireyou know, stuff one would normally do in the Urbz! Yeah, we arent quite sure who this is for.

Graffiti Kingdom (2004)

When you build your game entirely on the players own creations, be prepared. Be prepared for the madness behind poorly replicated characters. Be prepared for disproportionate character models, messy texture work, and sloppy animations. Be prepared to watch Graffiti Kingdom transform from being wonderfully weird to a hodge-podge nightmare of your own design. Not everything you make is going to turn out decent, and once you start seeing more and more of your own creations, youre going to start questioning your creative skills.
