VOICE OVER: Dave Strauss
After several years and a sifting through stacks of player opinions and reviews, Ubisoft has taken the Red Steel franchise back to the drawing board. Now, gamers will find themselves in a completely different virtual world, with a renewed focus on gameplay, precision sword-fighting and style as they inhabit the deadly role of The Swordsman. Upon beginning the title you will find yourself in a thrilling quest for vengeance as the sole remaining member of your clan who has survived an assassination attempt by the ruthless clan leader Payne, and his deadly group of Jackals. Tune in to http://www.WatchMojo.com as we take a look at the 7 things you should know about Red Steel 2.
Red Steel 2 It’s the completely overhauled follow-up to the Nintendo Wii’s most disappointing 2006 launch title. Welcome to Watchmojo.com and today we’ll taking a look at the 7 things you should know about Red Steel 2. Number 1: Franchise Overhaul Ubisoft France has spent the past few years going over gamer feedback from its first first-person outing on the Nintendo Wii. This has resulted in a sequel that ditches just about all of the core elements from its namesake, including the original plot, characters and art-style. As a result, gamers are now offered a completely fresh romp with a unique cell-shaded look, and much more realistic sword wielding. Number 2: The Plot: This time, players take control of “The Swordsman”, a character who’s identity is shrouded in secrecy. As one of the last surviving members of the “Kusa-Gari Clan”, you set out to avenge yourself on the opposing faction that ruthlessly took control of your town in search of an ancient weapon. Number 3: The Setting: The game is set in a fictional desert-bound, high-tech metropolis called “Caldera”, which merges the Wild West of the past with the Far East of the future. Throughout the game you will travel several dusty locales, such as rundown neighborhoods, railways, deserts and mines. Number 4: Your Enemies In this traditional Wild West tale of revenge, you must eliminate the “Jackals” and their ruthless leader “Payne”, a sadistic warlord with a love for dragging his helpless prey behind the wheels of his motorcycle. Along the way you will have to engage in numerous fights in which you must use all of your skill and cunning to survive multiple sword-swinging assassins. Number 5: The Weapons Throughout the game you will take on enemies from a first-person perspective and alternate between shooting and sword fighting. When not using your blade you will be fire off explosive rounds from various firearms: such as shotguns, pistols, and retro inspired Tommy guns. Number 6: The Quest System As a result of completing side-missions, such as dispatching a particular group of enemy targets, or using only your sword in a given level, you will unlock achievements. This has been mixed into the gameplay to add an extra sense of accomplishment, similar to Xbox’s GamerPoints or PlayStation’s Trophy System. Number 7: Advanced Motion Controls The latest Red Steel is leading the way as one of the first third-party games to truly embrace the Wii Motion Plus Accessory. As a result, your movements will be faithfully replicated on screen when aiming your guns and swinging your sword. Fortunately, the retail package includes the Motion plus accessory, and you will be able to fully calibrate the Wii motion plus to your unique tastes. Critics have praised Red Steel 2 for its solid mix between hard bang action and brutal swordplay, which is only available on the Nintendo Wii.
