7 Things You Should Know About Red Dead Redemption
It’s the spiritual successor to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver by GTA developer Rockstar San Diago. Welcome to Watchmojo.com and today we’re taking a look at the 7 things you should know about Red Dead Redemption.
Number 1: The Plot
Set in 1908, players will take on the identity of former outlaw John Marston. As the game opens you are coaxed into taking a deadly mission for government agents in exchange for getting back your family. Your mission is to kill or capture your old gang members and former leader Bill Williamson.
Number 2: Gameplay
Like Rockstar’s other popular franchise Grand-Theft-Auto, players will be given a sandbox environment and the ability to free-roam while taking on side quests. As expected, third person combat and gunplay is a major element of the game and includes its own unique cover system, which includes the ability to slide to safety.
Number 3: The Environments and Hunting
Not only will the game feature the frontier towns and desert locations one would expect, but players will be able to explore a rich and vast world filled with prairies and mountain passes. Depending on when you find yourself, there will be lots to do and see. Examples of which are randomly generated events, such as hangings, ambushes, pleas for help and animal attacks.
Speaking of which, hunting will be an integral part of the game’s environments and your survival. As a result, the game features over 40 different types of animals, such as cattle, bears, cougars and rattlesnakes.
Number 4: Weapons
Gunplay is John Marston’s specialty and he’ll make good of the game’s vast arsenal of weapons, which include a lasso, semi-automatic pistols, revolvers, bolt-action rifles, knives, dynamite, Molotov cocktails and mounted Gatling guns.
Number 5: The Targeting System
The game’s main combat feature is the Dead-Eye targeting system. This assists players when facing multiple enemies by placing you in slow-motion bullet-time. As a result, you can slow down the world and fire off precise shots at your enemies.
Interestingly, players are also given the ability to paint specific enemies and targets. As a result, when Dead-Eye ends, you can fire your weapon much faster and instantly devastate all of your intended targets.
When using these features you drain your Dead-Eye bar, which must then be refilled.
Number 6: Mini-Games
Along with taking on mini-quests you can also play various games. These include showdowns, gambling, sharpshooting, hunting bounties, cattle herding, arm wrestling and playing five-finger fillet.
Number 7: Honor System
Unlike most westerns, Red Dead Redemption features morality-based choices. Depending on your decisions, your honor rating will be affected. For example, you can rescue travelers being held-up by highwaymen, or join them and reap the rewards from the murder and theft. However, players should be weary of the lure of the darker path, as honor affects your fame and the way people react to you as well.
For fans of sand-box action adventures, no game aims to thrill like Red Dead Redemption for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
