7 Things You Should Know About Homefront
The second American Revolution has begun! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be filling you in on everything you should know about Homefront by Kaos Studios and THQ.
Number 1: The Plot
Set in the near future, the year 2027, a nuclear-armed Korean People’s Army invades the United States of America. This is the result of the USA’s economic downfall and the growth of the North Korean Forces following the death of Kim Jong-Il, who is replaced by his more ambitious son Kim Jong-un.
Penned by John Milius, the screenwriter of Red Dawn, the game similarly places players in the role of freedom fighters dealing with the enemy occupation of their home soil.
Number 2: The Environments
With the Korean takeover, American malls, suburbs and city streets are now battlegrounds as the civilian resistance fights for freedom. As a result, you will have to work your way through these locales, as well as prison camps, leveled schools and mass graves throughout the state of Colorado.
Number 3: The Protagonists
You take on the role of former pilot Robert Jacobs, a recently recruited resistance fighter. Confronting a ruthless and brutal North Korean People’s Army, you take shelter in a small refuge that is hidden away by camouflage netting. Determined to live, you join the community as they take on a variety of missions to disrupt the occupation.
In charge is Boone, a former police officer that has become the group’s father figure. Your teammates include Connor, a resistance legend, Hopper, a Korean-American mechanic, and Rianna, an expert hunter and survivalist.
Number 4: Weapons and Vehicles
Using guerilla tactics, players must also commandeer military vehicles to dispel enemy forces. These include Humvees, Abrams Tanks and Apache Helicopters.
Your weapons include a large variety of both American and Korean assault rifles, light machine guns and sniper rifles. This roster of firearms is made up of existing and fictional weapons, in addition to advanced drone technology.
Number 5: Multiplayer
Reminiscent of Kaos Studios’ earlier game “Frontlines: Fuel of War”, Homefront’s multiplayer is based on large-scale vehicle-based combat. These battles take place before America’s forces became weakened and scattered.
Amazingly, the game’s multiplayer supports 32 player matches, with 16 players fighting on each team.
Number 6: Battle Points
Incorporating a points system, players acquire this in-game currency by taking on multiplayer objectives, and raking up kills, and assisting teammates. Battle points are used to purchase new weapons, gear and vehicles. These include earning the ability to use drones and drive tanks and helicopters.
Number 7: Battle System
Due to the accumulation of points, Homefront’s multiplayer rewards players for taking out “wanted” players. In turn, these players are given a star rating to coincide with their threat level.
This means that taking out a three-star player driving a tank, may earn you enough points to buy one of your own. Likewise, if you're too good of a sniper, then you're going to rank quickly, and get marked as a priority threat by the enemy team, causing their members to hunt you down.
Overall, this Battle System has the pleasing effect of preventing too much class spamming, and works to make the game feel incredibly well balanced.
Conclusion:
A game about American fear and resistance, Homefront is a must-play game that will leave you feeling both uneasy and impressed.
