Coffee Chucker

Mistakes happen, but taking out your frustrations on staff is a terrible look, as Anastasia Lantier learned in 2019. After going through the drive-thru at Burger King in Seminole, Florida, and experiencing an issue, she walked into the store to argue with employees. Enraged, Lantier grabbed a cup on the counter and threw it at a worker. According to the arrest report, the cup contained hot coffee with a temperature of 250 degrees, giving the employee second-degree burns! After a fight that resulted in scratch injuries to both and a bite mark for Lantier, she fled the scene. But she was arrested later and charged with aggravated battery.

Biscuit Bump

Karens really like escalating situations from a simple error into a catastrophe. After going through a Popeyes’ drive-thru in Augusta, Georgia, Belinda Miller noticed the biscuits she ordered were missing. Miller spoke to the staff and the biscuits were handed over. That should be it, right? Nope. Miller also rang the restaurant and threatened the staff with driving her car into the building. Then, she did just that by slamming her SUV through the entrance! She only stopped after her car got stuck. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. Miller drove off after the destruction but was arrested at her home and charged with assault and criminal damage.

Not Paid Enough

If this story doesn’t change your mind that service staff should be paid much more, then nothing will. In 2015, a car with four women was at the drive-thru for McDonald’s in LaPlace, Louisiana and got into an argument with a teenage worker. According to the victim, one of the women opened the restaurant's window and punched them. In a video filmed by the group, one of the assailants was shown violently dragging the teenager out of the window by her hair before striking her some more. Luckily, the employee was okay, even if it looked pretty brutal. Afterward, the 17-year-old responsible for the worst of the attack was arrested and charged with second-degree battery. The other three women were either handed misdemeanor summonses for battery or for disturbing the peace.

Fast food places that have reward systems in place can be great for the customer. But it can be a nightmare for the employees, as one group found out in February 2023. In Altamonte Springs, Florida, twenty-four-year-old Amari Hendricks went through a McDonald’s drive-thru. Instead of a simple transaction, Hendricks was furious to not be asked about the franchise’s reward program. She apparently thought this meant she would get a free cookie. Even after getting the treat and yelling at staff, Hendricks escalated the situation significantly by allegedly pulling out a firearm and pointing it at them. She then broke into the locked store and attacked an employee, leaving injuries. Hendricks was later arrested on several charges.

Kidnap Attempt

Probably nothing screams “entitled” more than trying to actually steal another person. And in January 2023, this terrifying situation nearly happened to a worker at Beankini Espresso in Auburn, Washington. CCTV showed the employee serving a man in a truck at the drive-thru. As she handed him some change, he grabbed her and attempted to put a zip tie over her head. Thankfully, she managed to fight him off and call the cops. The man then departed quickly, leaving his cash on the floor. Later, the disturbing driver was identified as Matthew Darnell due to the Chevrolet tattoo on his arm. Darnell's facing charges of kidnapping and assault.

Tire Tantrum

Broken ice cream machines seem to happen way, way too regularly. Yes, it’s annoying. Especially if you live in a warm country like Australia during the summer. But one guy in Adelaide in February 2021 went too far and had a meltdown at Hungry Jack’s. Upon hearing about the damaged machine, the unidentified man had a tantrum, revving his car’s engine at the drive-thru. The proceeding burnout caused massive amounts of smoke around the area. He then drove off recklessly. While he eluded arrest once, the police managed to track him down inside the bathroom of a house and cuff him. He faced numerous charges and had his car impounded for 28 days. Whoops.

In May 2022, Nerissa Roque and her daughter Patricia were getting a meal at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Los Angeles, California. Their car was rear-ended by Nicholas Weber, who proceeded to yell racist slurs at the Filipino family before attempting to attack them. When Nerissa’s husband, Gabriel Roque, arrived at the scene, Weber punched him, breaking his rib. Weber then assaulted Nerissa before passersby got involved, and he was taken into custody by the police. But after he skipped a court appearance, an arrest warrant was issued for Weber. In April 2023, the hate crime charge was controversially dropped by the judge, but two counts of felony battery remained.

Everyone has heard about “secret” items on fast food menus that we can get. However, sometimes, those items aren’t so much secret as that they don’t actually exist, as Quavi Young found out in March 2023. Arriving at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Cocoa, Florida, she asked for a “cheeseburger bundle.” When a confused employee stated that wasn’t a thing and offered an alternative, Young was angry. Staff then asked why she was mad, which increased her rage as she pulled a firearm out and threatened them! The cops arrived shortly after and arrested her. Young was charged with felony aggravated assault, open carry of a weapon, and driving on a suspended license. Whoops.

Horsing Around

In 2013, Christine McGrail and her daughter Olivia decided to wait in the drive-thru at McDonald’s in Whitefield, England. Sounds normal so far. Except they were on horses. When they were refused service for safety reasons and told to go inside the building to order, McGrail decided that meant letting Olivia take her pony inside as she waited outside with her own horse. Confused and disgusted customers were soon more grossed out when the horse defecated in the restaurant. Lovely(!) But it’s okay, as McGrail later claimed that everyone found it funny, which is doubtful, but especially not hilarious to the staff who had to clean the mess. McGrail was fined £90 and was banned from the McDonald’s property.

In the early hours of November 2017, a McDonald’s in Columbia, Maryland, was closed for the night. But that inconvenience didn’t stop Jessica Marie Cross. Having found the drive-thru window unlocked, she leaned in and tried to pour herself a drink. After struggling, Cross climbed inside to finish making it. Then, she began taking some of the McDonald’s stock, including Happy Meal toys. But she wasn’t done with her thieving as she also grabbed $1,400 in cash. After realizing there were cameras, Cross attempted to hide her face, wipe her fingerprints, and try to delete the CCTV. But those didn’t pan out. Cross later turned herself in to the police for her misdeeds and was sentenced to three months in jail.
