As with most superheroes, there are often reimaginations and different versions to a character's past. According to the original X-Men comics, Xavier grew up unaware of his abnormal abilities. Eventually discovering his mutant nature, and his tremendous ability to read people's minds, Charles would use these skills to help him excel at everything he tried to do. Eventually he formed the X-Men, a group named for their possession of extra abilities that other humans lacked.
