#20: Shia LaBeouf’s Channel 5 Interview

LaBeouf has given the media plenty to talk about over the years. However, a particular appearance on the YouTube channel "Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan" in February 2022 showcased a raw, unscripted, and deeply uncomfortable side that left many viewers stunned. During the interview, which was ostensibly about his career resurgence and personal growth following past legal troubles and allegations of abuse, LaBeouf exhibited a highly agitated and confrontational demeanor. He frequently interrupted Callaghan, and veered into what many perceived as a bizarre and self-aggrandizing monologue. His responses often lacked coherence, marked by an almost performative intensity that seemed to set even the seasoned interviewer on edge.

#19: Charlie Sheen Is Winning

In early 2011, the world watched in a mixture of bewilderment and morbid fascination as actor Charlie Sheen embarked on a highly public, self-proclaimed "winning" spree. Freshly fired from his hit CBS show "Two and a Half Men" on March 7, 2011, Sheen launched into a series of interviews and public appearances that became instantly infamous. His behavior was characterized by extreme highs and lows, swinging between defiant confidence and rambling incoherence, all while projecting an image of unassailable triumph. This period, widely dubbed his "meltdown," saw him touring with a live show, making increasingly outlandish statements, and publicly grappling with substance use disorder. The episode captivated millions… but for all the wrong reasons.

#18: Christian Bale Wants to Know If Shane Hurlbut Is a Professional

During the filming of "Terminator Salvation", the film's director of photography, Shane Hurlbut, inadvertently walked into Oscar winner Bale's line of sight while he was deeply immersed in a crucial scene opposite actress Bryce Dallas Howard. What followed was a furious, expletive-laden tirade, captured on audio and subsequently leaked online. For over three minutes, Bale lambasted Hurlbut with intense, personal attacks, threatening to quit the film and verbally tearing down the crew member for what he perceived as a catastrophic distraction. The incident quickly went viral, and Bale later publicly apologized for his decidedly unprofessional conduct.

#17: Winona Ryder Is Arrested For Shoplifting

On December 12, 2001, Ryder was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from the Saks Fifth Avenue department store in Beverly Hills, California. Security personnel at the store alleged that Ryder had been observed stuffing thousands of dollars worth of designer merchandise, including a $760 Marc Jacobs sweater and a $1,500 Gucci dress, into her bag and removing security tags. The total value of the items she was accused of taking amounted to approximately $4,760 to $5,500. Furthermore, she was also charged with possessing pain medication without a valid prescription. Ryder was ultimately convicted on November 6, 2002, of grand theft and shoplifting and sentenced to three years of probation, 480 hours of community service, and ordered to pay restitution and fines.

#16: Hugh Grant Is Caught in a Vice Sting

Fresh off the international success of "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and seemingly enjoying a burgeoning career as a charming leading man, British actor Hugh Grant’s clean-cut image was shattered in June 1995 by a scandalous arrest. While in Los Angeles to promote his film "Nine Months," Grant was apprehended by police on Sunset Boulevard on June 27, 1995, for engaging in "lewd conduct" in his white BMW with a sex worker named Divine Brown. Grant was booked on misdemeanor charges and later pleaded no contest, receiving a fine of $1,180 and two years of probation. However, Grant's appearance on "The Tonight Show" just days after his arrest is often credited with helping to mitigate the damage.

#15: Gerard Depardieu’s Bad Behavior On a Plane

French cinematic legend Gerard Depardieu, renowned for his prolific career and larger-than-life persona, has faced a cascade of controversies that have significantly tarnished his legacy. One of the earlier instances of his erratic behavior came in August 2011 when he was accused of publicly urinating in the aisle of an Air France flight before takeoff from Dublin to Paris, citing an urgent need to relieve himself that the cabin crew reportedly denied. This act of public indecency, while bizarre, foreshadowed more serious issues to come. More recently, Depardieu has been embroiled in numerous allegations of sexual misconduct. Depardieu has vehemently denied these allegations, but the mounting evidence and recent conviction have prompted a reckoning with his past conduct in France.

#14: Jonathan Majors’ Career-Ruining Scandal

Majors was rapidly ascending Hollywood's ranks when his career trajectory was abruptly halted by serious legal troubles. In March 2023, Majors was arrested in New York City following an alleged domestic dispute with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, who reported physical injuries, including a laceration behind her ear and a broken finger. After a highly publicized trial in Manhattan, Majors was found guilty of assault in the third degree and harassment. The jury determined that he had recklessly caused physical injury to Jabbari. Marvel Studios quickly dropped him from all upcoming projects, effectively ending his role as Kang the Conqueror, a pivotal villain in their cinematic universe.

#13: Roseanne Barr Blames Ambien For Her Racist Posts

Barr’s eponymous sitcom "Roseanne" broke new ground for working-class representation, and achieved a remarkable television comeback in 2018 with a highly anticipated revival. The premiere drew massive ratings, signaling a triumphant return to form for the controversial star. However, this resurgence was short-lived and spectacularly self-sabotaged by a single, racially insensitive tweet. On May 29, 2018, Barr posted a tweet targeting Valerie Jarrett, a former senior advisor to President Barack Obama. ABC swiftly canceled the highly successful "Roseanne" revival just hours later, with then-ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey calling her statement "abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values." The network subsequently re-tooled the show without her, under the title "The Conners."

#12: Allison Mack Helps to Build NXIVM

Best known to television audiences as Chloe Sullivan in "Smallville" from 2001 to 2011, Mack became a central figure in one of the most disturbing cult scandals of recent times: NXIVM. This multi-level marketing organization, ostensibly offering self-help programs, was exposed as a sex-trafficking cult led by its founder, Keith Raniere. Mack's involvement was not merely as a follower but as a high-ranking member within a secret society called DOS. Here, women were recruited as "slaves" and subjected to forced labor, emotional manipulation, and sexual servitude. In April 2018, federal authorities arrested Mack in Brooklyn, New York. In June 2021, Mack was sentenced in a federal court in Brooklyn to three years in prison. She was ultimately released in July 2023.

#11: Alec Baldwin Has Some Choice Words For His “Thoughtless” Daughter

Baldwin experienced a deeply embarrassing and widely publicized moment in April 2007 when a private voicemail he left for his then-11-year-old daughter, Ireland Baldwin, was leaked to the media. The audio depicted Baldwin in a furious rage, berating his daughter with harsh language and accusing her of disrespect for not answering his phone calls during her visitation time with her mother. The voicemail, recorded amidst a bitter and highly contentious custody battle with his ex-wife Kim Basinger, painted a starkly negative picture of his parenting and emotional control. The public reaction was overwhelmingly critical, with many condemning his choice of words and the emotional distress it clearly caused his young daughter.

#10: Lori Laughlin Bribes Her Daughter’s Way Into College

In March 2019, Laughlin became a prominent figure in the "Varsity Blues" college admissions scandal. Federal prosecutors revealed that Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, had engaged in a scheme to fraudulently secure their daughters' admission to the University of Southern California (USC). The couple allegedly paid $500,000 to William "Rick" Singer, the mastermind behind the scheme, to have their two daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose, designated as crew recruits, despite neither daughter participating in the sport. Loughlin initially pleaded not guilty but later changed her plea to guilty on conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. In August 2020, she was sentenced in a Boston federal court to two months in federal prison, a $150,000 fine, and 100 hours of community service.

#9: Tom Cruise Loves Katie Holmes

In May 2005, Tom Cruise, one of Hollywood's most bankable and enigmatic stars, delivered an unforgettable and widely scrutinized performance not on the big screen, but on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." During an interview on May 23, 2005, meant to promote Steven Spielberg’s "War of the Worlds," Cruise's behavior took an unexpected turn when discussing his blossoming relationship with actress Katie Holmes. Overwhelmed with what he described as love and happiness, he repeatedly jumped onto and off Oprah's iconic yellow sofa, pumped his fists, knelt, and declared his affection for Holmes with an intensity that verged on manic. The moment immediately went viral, becoming a cultural touchstone and a subject of endless parody and analysis.

#8: Jussie Smollett’s Hate Crime Hoax

On January 29, 2019, Smollett reported to police that he was attacked by two masked men at approximately 2 a.m. in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood. The story quickly garnered widespread sympathy and outrage, with politicians and celebrities, including Kamala Harris and Ellen DeGeneres, offering their support. Detectives soon found evidence suggesting that Smollett had orchestrated the attack himself, allegedly paying two Nigerian-American brothers to stage the incident. Surveillance footage showed the brothers buying materials like rope and ski masks, and they later testified that Smollett had instructed them. Smollett was charged with filing a false police report, and after a protracted legal battle, he was convicted in December 2021 on five felony counts of disorderly conduct.

#7: Armie Hammer Is… a Cannibal?

What began with leaked screenshots of unverified direct messages on social media, purportedly from Hollywood leading man Hammer, quickly escalated into a full-blown scandal. These messages detailed graphic fantasies, including references to BDSM, violence, sexual assault, and even cannibalism. Soon after, multiple women came forward publicly with accusations of emotional and psychological abuse, describing manipulative and coercive behavior during their relationships with the actor. One woman’s harrowing account led the Los Angeles Police Department to open an (ultimately fruitless) investigation into Hammer in March 2021. Hammer was dropped by his talent agency, WME, and removed from several upcoming film and TV projects.

#6: Stephen Collins Is Accused of Disturbing Abuse

Stephen Collins was a respected actor, best known for his role as the morally upright Reverend Eric Camden on the long-running family drama "7th Heaven". This image of integrity was shattered irrevocably in August 2014 when a deeply disturbing audio recording was released. The recording, obtained by TMZ, was from a 2012 therapy session with his ex-wife, Faye Grant, and contained Collins's confession to engaging in sexual abuse of young girls, including in his own family. Collins was swiftly fired from various projects, including his role as the voice of a character in the "Ted 2" movie and a recurring role in the TV series "Scandal." Reruns of "7th Heaven" were pulled from syndication by various networks, and he became persona non grata in Hollywood.

#5: Bill Cosby’s Predatory Tendencies

For decades, Bill Cosby reigned as "America's Dad," a beloved comedian and actor who championed family values and education. In October 2014, allegations of sexual assault, which had circulated quietly for years, resurfaced and gained unprecedented public traction, largely fueled by comedian Hannibal Buress's stand-up routine. Over 60 women eventually came forward, accusing Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting them over several decades, often incapacitating them before the assaults. The sheer volume and consistency of the accusations, combined with a 2005 civil deposition, led to his arrest and trial. Cosby was later sentenced to three to ten years in prison in what was widely seen as a landmark #MeToo-era case.

#4: Ezra Miller’s Nationwide Campaign of Terror

What started with a viral 2020 video allegedly showing Miller choking a woman in an Iceland bar spiraled into a string of arrests, accusations, and deeply troubling headlines. In March 2022, they were arrested in Hawaii after allegedly screaming at patrons in a karaoke bar, grabbing a microphone from one woman, and lunging at a man playing darts. Weeks later, they were arrested again after allegedly throwing a chair at a woman during a private gathering in Pāhoa. The chaos didn’t stop there: Miller also faced accusations of grooming and manipulation, including claims tied to activist Tokata Iron Eyes, and in August 2022 they were charged with felony burglary in Vermont.

#3: Mel Gibson Derails His Esteemed Career With an Anti-Semitic Rant

This Oscar winner’s 2006 DUI arrest did much more than embarrass him: it blew the lid off a much uglier side of his public image. After being stopped in Malibu, Gibson launched into an anti-Semitic rant, reportedly telling Deputy James Mee that “the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world,” while also making sexist remarks toward a female officer. Once the police report and audio leaked, the damage was immediate and lasting. Gibson’s behavior led to widespread condemnation, deepened existing concerns about his mental health, and left him toxic in much of Hollywood for years. He later mounted a partial comeback, even earning an Oscar nomination for directing Hacksaw Ridge, but the rant remains a black mark.

#2: Kevin Spacey’s History of Abuse

What began in 2017 as a single allegation quickly turned into one of Hollywood’s most devastating public downfalls. After Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of making a sexual advance toward him when he was 14, more men came forward with their own allegations of sexual misconduct, including claims tied to Spacey’s years at London’s Old Vic. The fallout was immediate: Netflix cut ties with him on House of Cards, and Ridley Scott reshot his scenes in All the Money in the World. Spacey later won some major legal victories, including a 2022 civil case against Rapp and a 2023 acquittal in London on criminal charges. But by then, the damage was done.

#1: Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock

Yeah, you might have seen this coming. During the 2022 Academy Awards, Smith stormed the stage after Chris Rock joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, slapped the comedian on live television, then returned to his seat and shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!” The sheer disbelief in the room said it all: this wasn’t normal celebrity scandal fodder, but an inconceivable rupture in one of Hollywood’s most tightly controlled prestige events. Smith still won Best Actor later that night for King Richard, but the victory was instantly swallowed by the chaos. The Academy subsequently banned him from attending the Oscars for 10 years.
