Morbius Ending Explained

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re unraveling the mysterious Morbius ending.

For this list, we’ll be taking a bite out of the vampiric Marvel film’s conclusion to see how it might affect future superhero movies. If you haven’t seen “Morbius” or Holland’s trilogy of “Spider-Man” films, beware of spoilers ahead.

Which hero or villain would you want to see Morbius team up with next? Let us know in the comments below.

The pair of post credits scenes set up potential sequels and spin-offs, nodded to the MCU and made us question where we were in the multiverse. This is all due to the Vulture suddenly showing up in a surprising turn before offering to team up Morbius. Before we untangle this multiversal web, it’s worth getting a little refresher on who the bird themed villain is.

Adrian Toomes became an intimidating and resourceful thief known as the Vulture to keep his family afloat. He was also clever enough to figure out Spider-Man’s secret identity. Unfortunately, his goals put him at direct odds with an early career webahead who was looking to prove himself. After the two fought in a tense battle, Peter saved the Vulture’s life before webbing the big bad bird up for police. Adrian was so grateful for this gesture that he kept the hero’s secret identity from other imprisoned villains. It seemed like he had accepted his jail time and would quietly live out his sentence.

But Adrian’s story flew in a completely different direction as soon as we saw him start talking to Moribus in early trailers. The Vulture seemed very eager to get on the living vampire’s good side. Since both men appeared to be in the same prison, fans were wondering if Morbius took place within the universe of the MCU. After all, seeing a Spider-man being accused of murder in The Morbius trailer lined up with Holland being framed for slaying Myserio in “Far From Home”. But that webhead Easter Egg never actually hatched in the film. Ironically, Holland’s Peter was responsible for why Vulture met with Morbius at all.

Back in “No Way Home”, Spider-Man asked Strange to cast a spell to make people like Vulture forget his true identity. But the young man’s last minute suggestions threw the spell completely off course. Strange’s enchantment originally brought people with knowledge of Peter’s identity from their respective universes into the MCU. After the sorcerer sent the otherworldly visitors back in “No Way Home”, Vulture was somehow teleported into a jail cell in “Morbius”. We’re not sure if he’s the only one who knew Peter’s secret to be affected by the spell. However, we do know for sure that Adrian just traveled across universes.

In the first post credits scene, Adrian is released from a jail featured in “Morbius” because the authorities have no idea who he is. Since his history was pretty public in the MCU, there’s no way he’s still home. Tom Hardy’s Venom provides more proof of the universe jump. He was notably teleported in front of Tom Holland’s face in “Let There be Carnage” post-credits scene. When Brock and Venom followed up this confusing moment by going to a bar, they had absolutely no knowledge of recent MCU history. He didn’t even know about Thanos! Although Brock was clueless about Avengers, Morbius clearly knows about this version of Venom. So, it’s safe to assume Vulture traveled to a universe that both Hardy and Leto live in. But the one question about this world that hasn’t been fully answered revolves around Spider-Man.

Although the Spider-man shot we mentioned earlier doesn’t appear in the “Morbius” film, there are hints of webhead lore present in the movie. Dr. Martine Bancroft has a degree from Empire State University. In multiple universes, this is where Peter Parker goes to college. After graduating, some versions of the webehad work in Horizon labs. This is notably the location where Morbius has his big breakthrough and develops the serum that changes him. As great as those hints are, the biggest and most important Spider-man reference comes from a newspaper.

On the cover of one Daily bugle newspaper, an article mentioned a villain named the Chameleon. This rogue master of disguise has a reputation as being Spider Man's first major enemy. Additionally, this villain will appear in the 2023 “Kraven the Hunter” film. If both films are talking about the same Chameleon, then the master of disguise, Kraven, Venom, Morbius and Vulture could all team up. They’d only need one more member to form either a Sinister Six or new kind of alliance. However, we still wouldn’t be sure if there’s a familiar live-action Spider-Man waiting for them.

While Tobey Maguire fought a version of Venom before, the extraterrestrial enhanced Eddie Brock he fought was clearly different from Tom Hardy’s. Meanwhile, Garfield’s Peter claimed he’s never encountered an alien before. And Holland’s Spider-Man is definitely swinging in another dimension. So, if Vulture’s super alliance with Morbius turns sinister, none of those three Spider-Man are likely to get involved. But this could open up the door for a new webhead to rise up. Over the last few years, audiences have shown a lot of love for Miles Morales. This groundbreaking Spider-Man has yet to get a live-action interpretation. If Sony executives greenlight a full film with Miles, they could set it in Morbius and Venom’s universe.

Even if we don’t see Miles or another Spider-Person step into this world, the post credits scene finally gave us some answers we’ve been waiting for. Morbius, Venom and Vulture definitely live outside the MCU. And they all seem to be willing to operate outside of the law. It’s both terrifying and exciting to think about what the three of them could accomplish together. Hopefully, Vulture’s meeting with Morbius is just the beginning of a beautifully twisted cinematic relationship.
