Afterlife Knife

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” (2024)

In the Call of Duty series ever since the first Modern Warfare game, we’ve had unlockable camos for weapons that we can flex. Some of these were absolutely tedious to acquire, and the tradition carries on today! You might know the Afterlife camouflages in Black Ops 6’s zombies mode, requiring you to get 20 consecutive kills without taking damage. That’s already pretty daunting on its own! But the KNIFE camo? Good luck walking up to 20 zombies in a row and knifing all of them without taking damage or getting hit. It’s the most difficult Afterlife challenge!

Very Nuclear Calling Card

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” (2024)

Another thing to show off in multiplayer is the calling cards. Now when you kill someone, they’ll have to stare at your impossibly difficult-to-acquire calling card and name. However, one of the most difficult ones to acquire is definitely the “Very Nuclear” calling card. The challenge associated with it calls for earning a Nuke with 25 different weapons. So it’s safe to say that you’ll never get it without first getting good. There actually used to be glitches to acquire this calling card easier, but they’re patched now!

Ray Gun

“Call of Duty: World at War” (2008)

Throughout the various Call of Duty Zombies games, even back in World at War, the Ray Gun has always been an intentionally rare, hidden, or difficult weapon to acquire. It’s most often acquired in Mystery Boxes, which is “RNG-based.” However, its first appearance was actually in a campaign mission in World at War! And it’s a total shock that anyone found it at all, because to do so you need to hop around in completely innocuous water puddles without any sign or anything telling you to! It’s such a rare and obscure unlock.

Kali Sticks

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” (2019)

The 2019 remake of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” introduced several new weapons throughout the seasons of its lifespan, but one stands out as being particularly difficult. The Kali Sticks were a new melee weapon that arrived in Season 4, and the unlock required you to use the combat knife to get 3 kills while sliding, in 15 different matches. Sliding knife kills are already difficult to pull off, especially considering you’re up against players with guns. It just leaves you too open and predictable, so it’s definitely one of the harder unlocks.

Dark Matter Camouflage

“Call of Duty: Black Ops III” (2015)

Since its arrival in “Call of Duty: Black Ops III,” the Dark Matter mastery camo has been notoriously difficult to obtain. It’s been in every game since then, but we’ll use Black Ops III as our example. You unlock it by first getting Diamond camo on all weapons, and you can only get Diamond camo by getting Gold camo on all weapons! Before this, Diamond was the highest in Black Ops 2. Originally, Dark Matter was actually a secret camouflage, and is only featured next to the rest in later games.

Black Sky Camouflage

“Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” (2016)

Much like Dark Matter, one of the most infamous camouflages is the Black Sky camo from Infinite Warfare. It’s difficult due to multiple reasons, but mainly it’s just such an extreme grind. You have to go through two separate challenge paths, first unlocking the Solar camouflage for every single weapon in the game, and afterwards do the challenges for each of the six combat rigs associated with Black Sky. It’s such a gargantuan list of things to do to obtain it you just gotta respect the people who’ve done it!

Fall Camouflage

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” (2009)

Alright, OGs remember that Modern Warfare 2 had both some of the coolest camouflages, and some of the most difficult to unlock! In fact, the game didn’t have Gold camouflage, and instead had something quite similar called the Fall camo. You obtain it as a reward for completing the 6th expert challenge for any weapon, and achieving 250 headshots with it. This camouflage was one of the first big obtainable flexes in Call of Duty multiplayer. You just knew that if a player had the Fall camo, they were probably a force to be reckoned with!

Bruen MK9

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” (2019)

The Bruen MK9 is a LMG that was added to 2019’s Modern Warfare in season 3. While most weapons were unlocked with just levels, the Bruen MK9 was unlocked similar to how you unlocked Kali Sticks. However, the challenge required for the Bruen was very vague, and led to a lot of confusion on how to acquire it. You have to get 3 kills when the enemy is near smoke, using an LMG in 15 different matches. It might not seem like much, but on the surface that’s an incredibly niche situation. It also seemed that the challenge tracked incorrectly, as kills in smoke wouldn’t add to the count sometimes. Overall, the Bruen MK9 was quite difficult to obtain!

Damascus Camouflage

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” (2019)

The Modern Warfare remake brought with it lots of new additions to the OG, one of which being the Damascus camouflage. It’s one of the most difficult to obtain and demands a lot of time and dedication. You must first unlock the Platinum camouflage for each base game weapon, and getting Platinum for a weapon class requires you to get Gold first. Of course, getting Gold means completing each 10 base camouflage challenges for each weapon. If you want that Damascus camo, you’ve gotta have the endurance to last through the grind!

Gold Camouflage

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” (2007)

In the original Modern Warfare in 2007, we actually had camouflages. It even had a Gold camo, unlike its sequel Modern Warfare 2. Interestingly enough, they only gave Gold camo to 6 different weapons, 1 for each class of weapon except for the pistol, which was the Gold Desert Eagle obtained simply at Rank 55. If you wanted a Gold Dragunov for example, you’d have to complete all sniper rifle challenges. That might not sound like a lot, but get this: You needed 100 kills and 150 headshots with all Sniper rifles to obtain it. It’s the same for every other gun. How insane is that? So Gold camouflage used to be MUCH harder to obtain!
