If “Abbott Elementary” is anything, it’s a love letter to how the best teachers can inspire students even without the resources they deserve. And if there’s any doubt that creator and star Quinta Brunson was inspired by her own teachers, you don’t have to look further than the title. Host Jimmy Kimmel reconnected Brunson with her elementary school teacher, named Joyce Abbott. The scream of joy Brunson lets out is so pure. Kimmel then surprises Abbott with an all-expenses-paid trip in honor of her retirement. You can tell Ms. Abbott is a total vibe even just through the video screen.

Kid Cudi

A graduate of Shaker Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio, rapper Kid Cudi returned to do an exclusive TED Talk about his life and career. He looks so excited to be there. After asking if anyone from his graduating class is in the crowd, he immediately brightens when he spots a former classmate. He hollers and tells her to join him on stage. Cudi instantly drops everything to hype her up and makes plans to reconnect after his presentation. It’s such a fantastic and humble moment from an artist who’s achieved great things.

Tyrese Gibson

On a 2019 episode of “Access Hollywood,” actor and musician Tyrese Gibson spoke of his early life in Watts, Los Angeles. On the days he didn’t have money to get to school, his music teacher would drive him so he wouldn’t have to walk through rough neighborhoods. Gibson is so cool and collected throughout the interview. The moment his former teacher Mr. Andrews walks out, Gibson becomes a little kid again. Mr. Andrews remembers Gibson as a young artist who studied his craft, even before he knew what field he was going into. It’s a touching moment, and it’s nice to hear Gibson and Andrews tell the co-hosts they still keep in touch.

Beyoncé

For her 25th birthday, the global superstar celebrated with Ellen DeGeneres and her talk show audience. The host surprised Beyoncé by bringing out one of her earliest supporters. Her childhood dance teacher, Miss Darlette, seems as excited to see the star as any of us would be. She can’t contain her tears. Frankly, we’re with her. If one of the most famous women in the world used to be our student, we’d never shut up about it. It’s also a rare thing to see a completely unguarded moment from Beyoncé. She’s genuinely excited to see her former teacher.

Pierce Brosnan

While doing press for his role in DC’s “Black Adam,” the former James Bond star became visibly moved when he found out his interviewer was from his hometown. The moment the Irish presenter tells Pierce Brosnan they’re both from Navan, Ireland, the actor’s eyes immediately go wide. He’s so delighted. When the presenter confirms that the actor’s childhood home, a house built by his grandfather, is still standing, Brosnan becomes slightly choked up. Watching it, you get the feeling that neither one meets many people from home in the industry. They may not have known each other, but in a way, they’re connected by the same hometown.

Mariah Carey & Rosie O’Donnell

Not every blast from the past is heartwarming. Sometimes they’re hilariously awkward. Apparently, Mariah Carey had no idea she and Rosie O’Donnell lived in the same neighborhood at one point. When O’Donnell had the singer on her show to promote her album, “Butterfly,” she described how she would see Carey as a little girl when she would get on the bus. As O’Donnell tries to jog her memory, her guest is completely mystified. Carey is, as usual, elusive, but in a very charming way. Once they’re able to lock down that this did indeed happen, Carey moves on to a non sequitur about how she shaved her eyebrows off. O’Donnell confirms that Carey did, in fact, have eyebrows when she saw her.

Michael B. Jordan

The much-lauded star of “Black Panther” and “Sinners” ran into a former high-school classmate on the red carpet. Reporting for The Morning Hustle, Lore’l spills that she and Michael B. Jordan went to high school together in Newark, New Jersey. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all smiles and reminiscing. Although he’s nothing but gracious, Jordan reminds her that in high school she called him corny because of his name’s similarity to the legendary basketball player. Her embarrassed laugh is understandable. It’s an awkward moment for sure. The clip went viral, and Lore’l even commented on threats she received.

Harry Styles

If living well is the best revenge, this takes the biscuit. In 2015, the English singer-songwriter was touring with One Direction when he went viral. At a packed concert in Oslo, Harry Styles pointed out a boy who stole his girlfriend when they were 14 years old. It’s one thing to run into someone from the past on a red carpet or talk show. But to be picked out in a crowd of thousands and put on the Jumbotron is something else entirely. Fortunately, this wasn’t all it seemed. Styles ended the bit with a heartfelt “I love you,” revealing this as just a case of old friends having some fun.

Steve Harvey

When his producer had a surprise for him on the birthday episode of his talk show, Steve Harvey wasn’t thrilled. He doesn’t like surprises. But this one turns out to be an especially moving one. A video call from two old friends, Rich and Becky from Orlando, brings him to tears. Harvey can’t even answer. The couple gave him work when he badly needed it and made it possible for him to travel in his early comedy career when funds were low. He cries with gratitude at hearing from them again, having not seen them for years.

Adele

The room was full of stars when Adele made her grand return to the London Palladium in 2021. When acting legend Emma Thompson asked her about people who had an impact on her growing up, the pop star spoke of an English teacher who inspired her love of language. Sure enough, Ms. McDonald was waiting to reunite with her. Adele’s immediate reaction is complete shock followed by tears. The moment Ms. McDonald joins her on stage, it’s as if they’re having a private moment away from an audience. After asking for her former teacher’s contact info, Adele has to get off stage to touch up her makeup.
