Number 4: District 9 (2009)

In this unique take on the invasion genre, a dormant spacecraft appears in the skies above Johannesburg. Inside, humans discover a large group of malnourished refugees. Number 3: The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951/2008)

Possibly the first great alien invasion movie, it was centred on a saucer landing in Washington. There, its sole occupant, named Klaatu, emerged to warn the people of Earth to abandon their violent ways or face total annihilation. With his all-powerful robot Gort backing him up, Humanity learned pretty quickly that the duo didn’t come to kick our ass, just to spank it.

Number 2: War of The Worlds (1953/2005)

This H.G Wells novel has been adapted to film several times. Most recently, we were reminded that there’s nothing as terrifying as giant Alien tripods emerging from the ground to zap people into dust, and use Human blood to create an alien environment. Luckily, these visitors have weak astoundingly weak immune systems.
