Top 10 Alien Invasion Movies

Our fear of extra-terrestrials has been explored in cinema countless times. Sometimes they come to Earth as benevolent visitors. Sometimes they visit with peaceful intentions with the sole goal of helping mankind in our hour of need. But most of the time, they come to kick our ass, steal our resources, take our women and turn us into cotton candy! Always shown in films as immensely dominant to Earthlings in every way, they can seem surprisingly unfamiliar with the concept of friendship. Top 10 Alien Invasion Movies

They don’t always come in the name of peace. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be counting down the Top 10 Alien Invasion Movies.

Number 10: Mars Attacks (1996)

The inhabitants of Mars are jerks! Not only do they enjoy kill Earthlings and destroying our cities, but also love using our most cherished world monuments as bowling balls! While our weapons don’t do much, our classical music simply blows their minds.

Number 9: Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988)

Combining the two things that we all fear the most, a bunch of aliens dress like clowns in order to ravage the Earth. Even worse, they pack ray guns that turn their victims into cotton candy.

Number 8: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956/1978)

Amid reports that townsfolk are acting strange, a doctor discovers that aliens have begun replacing people, taking over their identities. As a result, he must warn the world before the alien takeover spreads beyond the boundaries of his hometown.

Number 7: Superman II (1980)

The Earth is invaded by three notorious criminals from the planet Krypton, each with the same powers as Superman. Unlike our alien hero of justice, these invaders bring the world, and the president of the United States to their knees.

Number 6: The Thing (1982)

An alien ravages an arctic research station. With its ability to assume the identity of anyone it's killed, the surviving team of scientists must identify who among them is the invader before they can defend themselves.

Number 5: Signs (2002)

Despite never actually showcasing the actual invasion, this movie made us believe! Sure, the camouflaging aliens were barely seen, but crop circles and TV broadcasts somehow mad us fear a race dumb enough to attack a planet that is seventy percent covered in water, something that they are fatally allergic to!

Number 4: District 9 (2009)

In this unique take on the invasion genre, a dormant spacecraft appears in the skies above Johannesburg. Inside, humans discover a large group of malnourished refugees. Neither tourists nor a hostile force, the aliens are forced to reside in a segregated shantytown, demonstrating that humans are not the most hospitable race in the universe.

Number 3: The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951/2008)

Possibly the first great alien invasion movie, it was centred on a saucer landing in Washington. There, its sole occupant, named Klaatu, emerged to warn the people of Earth to abandon their violent ways or face total annihilation. With his all-powerful robot Gort backing him up, Humanity learned pretty quickly that the duo didn’t come to kick our ass, just to spank it.

Number 2: War of The Worlds (1953/2005)

This H.G Wells novel has been adapted to film several times. Most recently, we were reminded that there’s nothing as terrifying as giant Alien tripods emerging from the ground to zap people into dust, and use Human blood to create an alien environment. Luckily, these visitors have weak astoundingly weak immune systems.

Number 1: Independence Day (1996)

Rounding out our countdown is the biggest alien invasion blockbuster film of the '90s. In this movie, aliens come to Earth to exterminate humans and steal our natural resources. After the obliterate most of our major cities, a computer expert and pilot team up to infect their mothership with a computer virus.
