5. It’s a fitness tracker, not a smartwatch

Unlike the popular Apple Watch and Fitbit Versa, the Halo Band does not have a screen and won’t bombard you with notifications. Instead, Amazon has decided to go with a “distraction free” approach that focuses more on collecting data throughout the day so that you can check it out later. The band itself is water resistant and the battery lasts up to seven days on a single charge. It also comes in a variety of colors. The band retails for $99.99 but you can get it for $64.99 during the Early Access period.

4. Information is displayed in the Halo app

To access the information gathered by your Halo Band, you will need to have the subscription-based Halo App installed on your smartphone. The app is designed to not only display readings from the band, but also help users implement strategies for improving their health and wellness. The app is divided into five main sections to help you easily navigate and find the information you need. Amazon insists that many layers of privacy protection have been developed to ensure that personal data is safe and in total control of the user. The app is free for the first 6 months and $3.99/month after that.

3. It can track body fat percentage

Using your phone’s camera to create a 3D scan of your body, the app can use “computer vision technology” to measure the user’s body fat percentage. Although the app does not measure body fat directly, it uses machine learning to analyze photos and determine the amount of fat on a person based on the proportions of their body. Amazon claims that its analysis is “as accurate as methods a doctor would use,” and twice as accurate as most at home smart scales.

2. It can analyze the emotional tone of your voice

Another novel feature of Halo is its Tone function, which analyzes the user’s voice to determine their mood, energy and stress level, and help them communicate more effectively with those around them. The innovative feature puts mental health front and center and is aimed at helping people understand how they are being perceived by others, thereby allowing them to improve their relationships and have better control over their emotions.

1. It can also track your sleep, activity and skin temperature

Alongside these more unique features, the Halo also has many of the same functions as other leading smartwatches and fitness trackers. The band and app can track activity levels, as well as quality of sleep through monitoring of motion, heart rate, and temperature. All this is tied together with a points system which adds or subtracts based on these metrics. It also includes a feature called Labs which contains challenges, experiments and workouts that can help users push themselves and improve their overall health and performance on a daily basis.

So what do you think of Amazon’s new Halo products? Will you try them out or stick to more established brands in the health-tech scene like Apple and Fitbit? Stay tuned to GetMojo for the most complete video product reviews.
