#5: Easter Eggs

If there’s one thing a reboot (or in this case, a rebooted sequel) needs, it’s Easter eggs to both the original film and its now non-canon sequels. (xref) Luckily, it looks like we’ll be getting references to both Loomis and Laurie’s deceased friends, as evident by the files in possession of the investigators, and it also looks like we’ll be getting another “Michael comes out of nowhere and bumps into a kid” scare. While we don’t want the movie to be a constant reference generator, it would be nice to see little Easter eggs sprinkled throughout for the more die-hard “Halloween” fans among us.
#4: A Return to Minimalism

What made the original “Halloween” so affecting and horrifying was its minimalism. John Carpenter made “Halloween” on a very tight budget of $300,000, yet he managed to create one of the scariest films of all time. Later “Halloween” films (especially the Rob Zombie remakes) went a little too Hollywood, and the cinematic polish resulted in a more sterilized experience. “Halloween” is scary because there’s nothing to it, and its low budget made it feel real. Carpenter managed to scare us with nothing but music, imaginative cinematography, tension, and a terrifying villain, and when it comes down to it, that’s all you really need.
#3: No Humanizing Michael

Another mistake that the sequels and remakes made was the decision to humanize Michael. We learned that Michael was Laurie’s brother (a fact that this new movie swiftly wipes from existence), and Rob Zombie dove headfirst into humanizing this otherwise mysterious entity. Viewers are split regarding the quality and necessity of Michael’s character development, but a lot of hardcore “Halloween” fans enjoy the almost supernatural quality of the original Michael. (xref) We don’t want to see his face, and we don’t want to know anything about his family and relationships. In other words, we want The Shape, not Michael Myers.
#2: A Laurie – Michael Showdown

The Laurie-Michael showdowns are a staple of the “Halloween” series. From Laurie stabbing Michael in the eye, to shooting him in the face, to decapitating him after pinning him to a tree, Laurie has proven herself to be the ultimate badass against a force of unbeatable evil. It would be great to see yet another fantastic showdown between the two, especially considering that Laurie is now a gunned-up, home-fortifying badass. While we aren’t asking for explosions and decapitations here, (xref) we would certainly welcome another fantastic cat-and-mouse chase and a climactic battle of wits and brute force. One of them is sure to be victorious, and we can’t wait to see who it is.

No pressure John, but could you please create another amazing soundtrack? Thanks buddy! Everyone knows that the “Halloween” theme is a classic. Not only that, but it’s one of the most recognizable pieces of music in movie history, which is quite the feat considering “Halloween” is a low-budget horror film and not some grand epic. John Carpenter is composing the music for the new movie, and while we’re positive that he will deliver on atmosphere, we need another iconic piece of music to go along with the classic “Halloween” theme. Maybe something inspired by Trent Reznor’s utterly badass version?
