For this list, we’re taking a look at television programs with the potential to inspire amazing games. We’ve excluded shows that already have well-known, acclaimed game adaptations, as well as shows that have big games on the way, such as “Firefly.” Basically, it doesn’t matter if the IP in question already has a game – we’re wishing for GOOD games. We’re also leaving off anime because those shows deserve a list of their own someday.

Alcoholic scientist Rick and his longsuffering grandson Morty exist in a universe of infinite possibilities. Because of this, there are plenty of possibilities for a “Rick and Morty” video game, especially if creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon contribute to the script. Rick’s portal gun can take the player to all sorts of imaginative words and alternate dimensions. Along the way, they’d come across avariety of colorful characters, such as Mr. Poopy Butthole. As a third-person adventure that mixes together action, platforming, and humor, Rick and Morty could be gaming’s most destructive duo since Ratchet and Clank.

The 2006 film adaptation didn’t exactly breathe new life into “Miami Vice,” but this police procedural franchise could live again as a video game. In the tradition of the original drama series, the game would center on Detectives Crockett and Tubbs solving an assortment of cases. Much like how “L.A. Noire” placed us in an open world environment based on 1940s Los Angeles, the developers could recreate 1980’s Miami here. The setting and time period would additionally be reminiscent of “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.” Of course in “Miami Vice,” the objective would be to fight crime as apposed to raising the crime rate.

While there have been several “Power Rangers” games over the years, most of them have been rushed, mediocre cash grabs. Given the exceptional work they’ve done with hack and slash titles like “Transformers Devastation” and “Bayonetta,” we believe that PlatinumGames would be the ideal development company to do the Rangers justice. Interestingly, “Super Sentai,” the Japanese series that “Power Rangers,” is based on inspired PlatinumGames to make their own Tokusatsu game “The Wonderful 101.” Not only that, but when the company was Clover Studio’s they created another Tokusatsu game in the form of Viewtiful Joe. All things considered The Rangers and PlatinumGames seem like a match made in heaven.

The previous “Futurama” video game captured much of the show’s wit and charm, but left something to be desired on a gameplay level. If the Planet Express crew ever visits the gaming frontier again, we could totally see them in a puzzle platformer along the lines of “Trine” or “The Lost Vikings.” Fry, Bender, and Leela would all be given special abilities to perform specific tasks. If the game developers can get the rights to “Pac-Man” and “Space Invaders,” they could even recreate one of the series’ classic episodes. Whether it utilizes 3D graphics or 8-bit graphics, we hope this game lies in our future.

Here’s another franchise that lends itself to a ton of imaginative worlds and ideas. “Stargate SG-1” would feel right at home in an action role-playing game with either a first-person or third-person perspective. In the spirit of “Mass Effect,” the player’s hub world would be Stargate command, and the titular device would be the gateway to new missions and side quests. Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment was set to develop an online RPG called “Stargate Worlds,” but the project was cancelled. If the gaming industry ever unlocks this franchise’s true potential, we’re more than ready to step through the gateway to adventure.

After over a decade on the air, you’d think that “Supernatural” would’ve inspired a video game to appease its legion of fans. Yet, we’re still waiting to take control of Dean and Sam Winchester on an unearthly journey. Following in the footsteps of titles such as “Alan Wake” and “Resident Evil 4,” the game could work as both a psychological thriller and survival horror shooter. With villains like Lucifer and Azazel, there’d also be room for quite a few epic boss battles. We just hope this game sees the light of day before hell freezes over.

Two words: Chuck Norris! Best known for paying the titular character of “Walker, Texas Ranger,” the Internet’s favorite badass was tailor-made for a beat 'em up game. Granted, in the wrong hands, this could be the biggest sellout since “Shaq Fu.” With the right developer, however, “Walker, Texas Ranger” could be the greatest brawler this side of “Double Dragon” “Or Streets of Rage.” With melee combat and weapons, the game would be nonstop, action-packed fun, excluding the part where Walker tells Lucas he has AIDS. Until then, we’ll have to settle for playing “Chuck Norris Superkicks.”

A video game adaptation of this hit animated series just might be on the horizon. Obsidian Entertainment, the same company that gave us “South Park: The Stick of Truth,” has expressed interest in bringing Sterling Archer to a console near you. We could also picture Monolith Productions doing something inspired with this material, developing a stylized, cel shaded shooter in the vein of “The Operative: No One Lives Forever.” With outrageous characters and numerous inventive scenarios, “Archer” has the potential to inspire one the finest licensed games ever, not to mention one of the funniest.

Utilizing an episodic structure, Telltale Games has adapted a couple popular television franchises, including “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead.” Given their knack for story-driven adventures, an “Orange is the New Black” game sounds like a perfect fit for the company. As a new inmate at Litchfield Penitentiary, you’re character would interact with the likes of Piper Chapman and Suzanne Warren. You might make some friends during your stay, but you’re just as likely to make some enemies. If the player can think outside the box, though, they just might survive their sentence and be able to laugh about it. Before we get to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: “Vikings” (2013-) “Ash vs Evil Dead” (2015-) “Black Sails” (2014-) “Knight Rider” (1982- 86)

This popular sci-fi series has inspired a few video games, although none of them left much of an impression. Our ideal “Battlestar Galactica” game would be a space shooter in the tradition of “Wing Commander,” However in between missions you also need to manage and maintain the fleet, thus the option for an X-COM style base management system would be ideal for researching Viper upgrades, and keeping social stability in check. Honestly Battlestar quite literally has Video Game Material written all over it more than any other entry on this list, and to be able to join Admiral Adama’s service, would be an honor.
