VOICE OVER: Sophia Franklin WRITTEN BY: Taryn Crankshaw
We're still not over these hated TV kisses. For this list, we'll be looking at the TV smooches that didn't sweep us off our feet and instead made us cringe. Our countdown includes "Dexter," "Game of Thrones," "Gilmore Girls," and more!

#10: Larry Bloom & Polly Harper
“Orange Is the New Black” (2013-19)

Top 10 Worst Things Larry David Has Done

Sure, Piper Chapman was no angel during her time at Litchfield. However, that doesn’t mean she deserved this betrayal. Relying on each other to get through their own relationship woes, Piper’s fiancé Larry and best friend Polly get close. Really close. After Larry eventually confesses his feelings for her, they give into their newfound romance. It's a shocking and surprising moment that is made even worse by the fact that it’s not only a physical, but an emotional attraction. The two eventually leave their partners for each other, and while Larry and Piper were not meant to be, it’s a shame that things had to end the way they did.

#9: Dexter & Debra Morgan
“Dexter” (2006-13)

Top 20 Serial Killers on Dexter

During its eight-season run, this show went to some dark places. However, one particular storyline exceeded the shock factor of all the killing. After Deb’s therapist convinces her that she’s in love with her adopted brother, Dexter, an innocent conversation about chopsticks turns into a makeout session between siblings. Thankfully, it was all a dream, but nonetheless it was a strange and disturbing storyline that was dark even by “Dexter” standards. Fans couldn’t help but feel unnerved by the turn of events and it soured much of the remainder of the series.

#8: Rebecca Bunch & Josh Chan
“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (2015-19)

Also in:

Top 10 Best Rebecca Moments on Ted Lasso

“She’s just a girl in love…” with the wrong guy. Sure, Rebecca Bunch uprooted her whole life and moved across the country to West Covina, California for her crush Josh Chan. But the dramatic irony of the situation is that we the audience know that Josh isn’t the right one for her, whereas Rebecca does not. Sure, the situation’s “a lot more nuanced than that,” but when they did kiss, it left fans worried. In any other series, seeing the protagonist achieve their goal would be satisfying, but in this case, it’s the total opposite.

#7: Willow Rosenberg & Kennedy
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997-2003)

During a time where queer couplings were especially rare on television, Willow Rosenberg and Tara Maclay were an exception. The witchy duo were fan favorites and just when it seemed like they were the ultimate couple goal, the show killed off Tara. Her departure was painful for both fans and Willow. Eventually, she had to move on and found comfort in the arms of slayer Kennedy. Devoted fans found their first kiss to be rushed and that personality-wise, the two were just too different. Above all else, Kennedy couldn’t compare to fans' admiration for Tara.

#6: Daenerys Targaryen & Jon Snow
“Game of Thrones” (2011-19)

Top 10 Badass Daenerys Targaryen Moments

In one of the most highly anticipated moments of “Game of Thrones,” the Mother of Dragons and the new King in the North finally meet. It’s an exciting and thrilling scene, but what happens later… is not so great. An immediate attraction to one another eventually causes the pair to lock lips and then some. While this act of affection would be totally fine, the fact that they’re related cranks up the ick factor. Watching the aunt and nephew pair making out is harder to digest than the show’s most violent scenes. While fans figured it was eventually gonna happen, it didn’t make it any less squirm-inducing.

#5: George O’Malley & Izzie Stevens
“Grey’s Anatomy” (2005-)

10 Times George Cooper Sr Was Nothing Like Sheldon Described on The Big Bang Theory

Sometimes, going from friends to romantic partners works very well. Other times, it’s a complete mistake. After creating a solid friendship, Dr. George O’Malley and Dr. Izzie Stevens went and ruined all of it by falling for each other. After a one night stand, the two eventually decide to give it a shot, with George even divorcing his wife Callie to do so. Katherine Heigl herself went on the record in 2008, expressing that the pairing was out of character and was only done to boost ratings. Thankfully, the two didn’t end up together, but it still doesn’t make up for this unnecessary pairing.

#4: Veronica Lodge & Jughead Jones
“Riverdale” (2017-)

Also in:

Top 10 Best Veronica & Archie Moments

Always keeping its audience on their toes, “Riverdale” is forever moving its couples around like pawns on a chessboard. During a relaxing hot tub dip, things go from tranquil to tense really fast. In an effort to even the score following Archie and Betty’s kiss, Veronica suggests that she and Jughead lock lips. However, the vengeful, watery snog isn’t even the worst part. Jughead’s use of “Vughead” and “Bughead'' elevates the cringe factor to an unprecedented level. Unsurprisingly, the whole thing comes off more sweaty than steamy and just makes matters even more awkward for the foursome.

#3: Rory Gilmore & Dean Forester
“Gilmore Girls” (2000-07)

Also in:

Top 10 Best Veronica & Archie Moments

Arguably one of the most talked about moments in the series, Rory’s infamous Season 4 kiss with Dean caused an outrage among fans. After the two lock lips, it leads to them sleeping together and Rory losing her virginity to her married ex. The shocking moment threw audiences for a loop, and caused quite a stir as the whole thing was totally out of character for Rory. To make matters worse, the future journalist shows little remorse or guilt for her act of infidelity. Of course, viewers would have loved to see the high school sweethearts reunite, but definitely not this way.

#2: Rachel Green & Joey Tribbiani
“Friends” (1994-2004)

Also in:

Top 20 Rachel Green Looks We Would Totally Rock Today

As much as “Friends” fans love Rachel and Joey, they don’t exactly love them together. When the show attempted to shake things up by pairing them, it was met with a mixed reaction from audiences. Unlike Ross and Rachel, their chemistry was non-existent, which was further proven when they finally planted one on each other in Season 9. Of course, they deeply cared for each other, which was evident based on Joey’s character development, but it wasn’t enough to keep them afloat. Eventually, the two came to their senses and called the whole thing off, much to the delight of fans.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few dishonorable mentions.

#1: Jackie Burkhart & Fez
“That ‘70s Show” (1998-2006)

Also in:

Top 10 Kelso & Jackie Moments on That '70s Show

Yes, Fez did pine for Jackie’s affection since the start of the series, but their eventual romance was poorly timed. While they’d kissed before, their watertower smooch in the series finale was their first sincere lip lock. Now, we’re not saying that these two wouldn’t make a good pair, but throwing in a kiss at the last second felt like a ripoff. While Jackie’s relationships with Kelso and Hyde were fully fleshed out, all we got was this small peek into her and Fez’s fling. It being full of potential, we can only imagine what would have been.
