Covered in scars from his days wrestling bears in Mother Russia, The Red Cyclone, as he calls himself, is a mountain of a man with an arsenal of devastating grappling-based moves. Whether you’re using his infamous spinning piledriver or lariat attacks, Zangief is a character who does his damage up close. His lack of range might be seen as a detriment in a game where long-range fireballs are the norm, but in the hands of a skilled player, Zangief has all the necessary tools to lay a colossal beating on his adversaries.

One of M.Bison’s most loyal cronies, Vega is an eccentric Cage Fighter who uses his trademark claw and agility to gracefully bounce around the stage, attacking from all angles. Vega is especially notable for not only being one of the first Street Fighter characters to possess a weapon, but also for being able to use his caged arena as a tool towards victory. Vega’s vanity also shows as he wears a mask to protect his face’s beauty. Though that thing can be easily smashed when defeated.

A peaceful yoga master who enters the Street Fighter tournament to raise money for his village, Dhalsim offers players perhaps the most unique fighting style in the entire series. With limbs that can stretch almost halfway across the screen, Dhalsim seems somewhat overpowered at first. However, his attack range come at a cost of extremely slow movement and jumping speed, Though this is remedied by his ability to teleport around the arena. In the hands of a pro Dhalsim can be unstoppable.

Originally the final boss in the first Street Fighter game, this guy is known as the “Emperor of Muay Thai” in his home country, Thailand. Though immensely powerful, Sagat suffered several defeats as evidenced by his missing eye, along with the giant scar on his chest, which he received at the hands of one of Ryu’s legendary Shoryuken. An important piece of the Street Fighter story, Sagat is an exceptionally dominant character who uses a combination of knee strikes, uppercuts and fireballs to fell his opponents.

First introduced in “Super Street Fighter II” as a new playable character, Cammy is formerly one of M.Bison’s minions who lost her memory and was then recruited by the British Secret Service. Despite questions surrounding her hyper-sexualized image, Cammy remains one of the most popular characters in the Street Fighter Universe. Agile and speedy, Cammy is a deadly assassin that’s adept at striking her foes with quick flurries of punches and kicks, leaving them unable to respond before the fight is already over.

Mutated during a freak lightning storm and subsequent plane crash that trapped him in the middle of a Brazilian rain forest, Blanka is one of the strangest looking and therefore more recognizable characters in the Street Fighter Series. With his ability to conduct electricity and launch himself around the stage like a cannonball, Blanka possesses a unique fighting style that can be difficult to defend. Blanka just wants to find his birth mother, which is why he decides to travel and fight around the world. Makes sense.

Every fighting game series needs a main villain, and M. Bison certainly fits the bill. Possessing the ability to harness a mysterious energy known as ‘psycho power,’ M. Bison is evil personified—a dictator and controller of an ominous crime syndicate bent on ruling the world called ‘Shadaloo.’ Pretty much every non-evil participant in the Street Fighter tournament is out to get M.Bison for one reason or another, but with punishing full-screen attacks, flying head stomps, and the ability to teleport, M. Bison won’t be easily thwarted.

The quintessential American bad-ass, Guile has a small special move set, limited basically to his ‘Sonic Boom’ projectile and ‘Flash’ anti-air kick. Chun-Li was the first playable woman warrior in the Street Fighter series, and remains the most iconic. Chun-Li is a hardened INTERPOL agent who enters the tournament to track down her father’s murderer, the dastardly M. Bison. Chun-Li set a standard for female protagonists in video games, and proved that women can be a formidable badasses. She appears in nearly every iteration of the StreetFighter series, and with a powerful arsenal of kicks and fireballs, and the ability to wall jump off the side of the screen, she makes for an agile opponent.
