For this list, we've ranked the best film, TV and video game trailers released throughout the month of July, but with San Diego Comic-Con having taken place, expect a LOT of movie trailers.
#10: “The Walking Dead” Season 9 (2010-)

It’s been a rough last few seasons for this hit AMC series, but with the announcement of a new showrunner, Angela Kang, those who stuck around and those who strayed from the series are hoping that things will be turning around in season 9. Premiered at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con, this trailer, at over 5 minutes in length, certainly promises big things. With Negan behind bars, Rick and company have moved past survival in an attempt to start building something better. But ever the dissenting voice of pessimism, Negan has his doubts, and he looks as if he might not be too far off base!
#9: “Castle Rock” (2018-)
Adapting the work of Stephen King isn’t easy. For every “It”, you’ve got at least one “The Dark Tower”. With this Hulu series, however, fans of King’s work are being treated to a series operating on a similar level of complexity and nuance to that which the author puts into his novels. Set in the fictional Maine town of Castle Rock, which has served as the setting for numerous King works, this series from executive producer J.J. Abrams promises to weave together an original story steeped in King’s rich mythology. From the looks of this tense and foreboding trailer, this is a must-watch for King fans and newcomers alike.
#8: “Disenchantment” (2018-)
Over the years, the Simpsons has transitioned from being must-watch television to a respected institution with a dwindling viewership. But while the series that launched his career might be growing stale, creator Matt Groening clearly isn’t short on ideas. Using the same unmistakable animation style of the Simpsons and Futurama, “Disenchantment” is Groening’s ode to fantasy and medieval times, and as this trailer makes painfully clear, he’s both celebrating the genre and poking fun at it. Following Bean, a wayward alcoholic princess, her Elf companion and personal demon, Disenchantment is a tale of misadventure for the ages - Middle or otherwise.
#7: “Shazam!” (2019)
DC and Warner Bros. have struggled to build a functional and successful cinematic universe, with their most reliable characters failing to get attract the sort of audiences once considered a sure thing. But maybe, just maybe… a second tier character with a unique story and decidedly different tone is just the sort of shakeup their franchise needs. Based on this first trailer, Shazam! looks to be like a whole lot of fun. Billy Batson, a troubled boy being shuffled from foster home to foster home, acquires magical powers that give him abilities not dissimilar to Superman’s and gives him the body of an adult. With Zachary Levi in the cape, wacky hijinx abound.
#6: “Aquaman” (2018)
Of course, Shazam isn’t the only unconventional hero that DC and WB are bringing to the big screen. At the 2018 San Diego Comic Con we also got the first trailer for Aquaman’s highly anticipated solo outing. Jason Momoa’s prodigal Atlantean Prince was one of the highlights of 2017’s Justice League, even if the character felt underdeveloped. Diving deep into DC’s Aquaman mythology, however, and featuring a myriad of recognizable supporting characters from the comics, this first trailer gives us reason to hope that Aquaman might be DC’s second undeniable success after Wonder Woman. With multi-genre director extraordinaire James Wan at the helm, things are looking good.
#5: “Glass” (2019)
Is it too early to say that we are witnessing the return to form of M. Night Shyamalan? “Split” was an excellent film in its own right, but when we got that twist reveal at the end of the movie that it was in fact set in the same universe as 2000’s “Unbreakable,” well… the excitement in the theater was palpable. Pitting Bruce Willis’ heroic David Dunn against the combined efforts of James McAvoy’s Horde and Samuel L. Jackson’s Mr. Glass, the third film in this trilogy might just be the best yet.
#4: “Star Wars: Clone Wars” Season 7 (2008-)

Alright, after three superhero movies in a row, it’s time for a little break… with Star Wars! Much to the disappointment of fans the world over, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was canceled after 6 seasons, despite there being more storylines planned. At San Diego Comic-Con, however, Disney made a MASSIVE surprise announcement in celebration of the show’s 10 year anniversary - a 7th season, which will be made available on Disney’s new streaming service. Not only did the panel deliver the joyous news, but they also shared an atmospheric trailer that promises to finally deliver an end to the Clone Wars and the welcome return of familiar faces.
#3: “Overlord” (2018)
From impossibly busy producer J.J. Abrams comes this wartime horror film, which honestly just looks like too much fun to not go see in theaters. Set in WWII, the film follows US paratroopers who stumble upon grotesque and unnatural Nazi experiments. Though billed as a straightforward horror, there’s a certain wild energy and subtle campiness to this first trailer that is reminiscent of such as Evil Dead and The Cabin in the Woods - which are both rather flattering comparisons to be on the receiving end of. Of course, the use of “Hells Bells” by AC/DC certainly helps the sales pitch. This looks like one truly insane ride.
#2: “Bohemian Rhapsody” (2018)
The teaser trailer released in May of 2018 certainly caught our attention… but with this first proper trailer, “Bohemian Rhapsody” has officially got us on the hook. Like a good Queen song, it starts slow and atmospheric before building to an exhilarating crescendo. We’ve only gotten a small taste of his performance thus far, but Raimi Malik appears to really inhabit the role of Freddie Mercury, and given that the man is widely considered to have been one of the most magnetic musical performers to ever live… that’s no small feat. Nove mber 2nd, 2018 can’t get here soon enough.

What If Godzilla Were Real?
One of the most common issues people voiced with Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla was that there wasn’t enough screen time for the titular reptile or the monsters he was fighting. Clearly, with this trailer, the good folks over at Warner Bros. want you to know that this follow-up will NOT be lacking in that regard. Boasting an awesome cast of tried and proven actors, including Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, and everyone’s favorite up and comer Millie Bobby Brown, “Godzilla: King of Monsters” looks set to be more than a royal rumble… this trailer teases an epic film that will change the world of Godzilla as we know it.
