#10: Twilight

Top 10 Twilight Moments That We Hate Watch

- Putting on his best Batman voice, narrator Gannon Nickell and Screen Junkies tear this film apart with a brutally honest trailer. They don’t hold back any punches as they criticize the books, the author, the actors, and even the audience!
- The trailer also looks at how messed up the plot of the movie is – a 100 year old vampire posing as a 17-year-old who essentially stalks a young girl and even sneaks into her room to watch her sleep? They had plenty of material for this one.
- The best part has to be when they focus on her inability to pour ketchup. Seriously, this scene perfectly sums up how bad a character Bella Swan is and how terrible an actor Kristen Stewart is all in one go. Well done, Twilight!

#9: Titanic

Also in:

Why Did the TITANIC Sink?

- Don’t you just hate when things are done for no other reason than to make some extra cash? The release of “Titanic” in 3D back in 2012 is the definition of a money-grab, something that wasn’t lost on Screen Junkies, as they mention how rich this film made James Cameron twice in the first 40 seconds of the trailer!
- One of the greatest strengths of the Honest Trailers series is how they manipulate sound to create effect, and the dead silence after the 100-year-old Rose talks about her erotic experience with Jack is the perfect example and pure comedic gold.
- Since we are based out of Canada, however, we do have to take issue with their criticism of Celine Dion. Seriously, she looks pretty damn good for someone pushing 50!

#8: Man of Steel

Top 10 YouTube FineBros React Videos - TopX Ep.47

- Superman is supposed to be an uplifting hero who represents the good in the world …and suffice it to say, “Man of Steel” failed to capture that. Completely. This Honest Trailer spends the majority of the time focusing on this fact, noting how the film depresses adults and frightens children.
- Perhaps the best part of the trailer is when they point out how Superman is able to listen to both his Robin Hood dads by showing off his powers and letting innocent people die at the same time.
- Plus, you gotta love a trailer that can incorporate a “that’s what she said” line. We may disagree on Celine Dion, but I agree with Screen Junkies here – definitely #TeamAffleck in the upcoming film.

#7: Transformers

Also in:

Transformers: Live Action vs Animated

- The early versions of Honest Trailers were much shorter than they are today, but that doesn’t mean they were any less funny or accurate. And, honestly, 1:55 is plenty of time to destroy a Michael Bay film, particularly Transformers
- The trailer hits the obvious notes such as the blatant racism and stereotypes and Bay’s overreliance on hot girls, but also looks at how stupid the ending is – seriously though, Megatron spends the whole time trying to gain control of a cube that eventually destroys him?!
- Screen Junkies mixes it up in the starring section, as instead of focusing on the actors and actresses, they list off dozens of obvious sponsors in the film, proving that Bay truly is a corporate shill. I’d give them props for predicting how terrible the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was, but come on, even the groundhog could have guessed that one!

#6: Batman & Robin

Also in:

Top 20 Greatest Batman The Animated Series Episodes

- This trailer actually has the fewest views out of all the trailers on our Top 10 list, but I think that may have more to do with how bad the film is rather than the trailer itself. While “Batman & Robin” may be an easy target, Screen Junkies is incredibly creative in its criticism.
- For example, they reference how the film feels like a less fun version of the campy 1960s series, and even incorporates their own onomatopoeia into the trailer as an homage to the series, with the classic Batman music playing in the background
- They also include actual interviews with the stars of the film and even an apology from director Joel Schumacher! That’s nice Joel, but we are still waiting for an apology for “The Number 23”…

#5: Guardians of the Galaxy

- What starts out like any other Honest Trailer quickly takes a turn as the narrator admits that they actually really enjoyed this film. Other than a few nitpicks, Screen Junkies focuses primarily on Marvel.
- Is there anything Marvel can’t do right now? As the trailer points out, they take a relatively unknown comic book, the fat guy from “Parks and Rec” as their lead star over Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, who are left with voiceover roles, and fill the screen with a bunch of obscure characters whom no one has ever heard of, and the film becomes the most popular movie of 2014? Unbelievable.
- I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised, however, as this movie is basically the Star Wars version of the Avengers. Each member of the Guardians plays a similar role to someone on the Avengers, as this trailer cleverly points out.

#4: The Dark Knight Rises (Feat. RedLetterMedia)

Also in:

Top 10 How It Should Have Ended Videos - TopX Ep.34

- “The Dark Knight Rises” was a polarizing movie, with people either loving it or hating it. In this Honest Trailer, Screen Junkies teams up with RedLetterMedia to create a hilarious trailer for a film that, when you start to think about it, doesn’t really make sense.
- The best segment has to be when they cut to the RedLetterMedia guys sitting in a shabby room surrounded by beer bottles. Despite their monotone voices and somewhat disturbing surroundings, the guys actually ask thoughtful questions that show serious flaws in the film’s plot. Plus, their expressions when they hear the voice-over questions are priceless.
- Lastly, I have to spend a minute focusing on the starring section. Was anyone else’s mind blown when they realized that saying “my cocaine” sounds the same as “Michael Caine” with a British accent? And it’s only right that we give Anne Hathaway some props too…Prince-Ass Diaries indeed!

#3: The Lord of the Rings

Top 10 Most Powerful Lord Of The Rings Characters

- When you think of Honest Trailers, one of the first thoughts that surely comes to mind is the epic trailer voice. With respect to Gannon Nickell, no one does it better than Jon Bailey. This trailer is the first one for Bailey, who has assumed the role ever since.
- This trailer has all the usual Honest Trailer hallmarks, including a hilarious rundown of all the confusing and difficult to pronounce names, but also has an epic Sean Bean death montage.
- While there isn’t much bad you can say about the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, the third movie does seem to drag on a bit towards the end, something Screen Junkies hilariously spoofs by pretending to end the trailer twice before actually ending it.

#2: Frozen

Top 10 Frozen Theories That Might Be True - Trailer Breakdown

- The “Frozen” Honest Trailer has over 24 million views. The next highest movie Honest Trailer is “Titanic” at 14.5 million views. This pretty much proves that if you are looking to attract an audience, all you need to do is incorporate a frozen aspect into your movie.
- One of the best parts of this Honest Trailer is when they point out that Anna teams up with her sister, a merchant, a hot guy, and a snowman to defeat her sister, a merchant, a hot guy, and a snowman. Disney may be losing some creativity.
- As their first ever animated Honest Trailer, Screen Junkies decided to mix it up by writing their own lyrics to the tune of several popular songs from the film, including “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”, which they retitled as “The Exposition Song”, and “Let It Go”, retitled as “The YOLO Song”.

Before we go to our top pick, here are a few honourable mentions:

#1: The Avengers

Top 10 YouTube Music Videos of 2014 - TopX Ep.26

- Marvel rules the cinematic world right now, thanks in large part to the success of 2012’s “The Avengers”. Screen Junkies truly knocks it out of the park with this Honest Trailer, combining a genuine appreciation of the film while at the same time nitpicking and making fun of several plot points and characters.
- One of the best moments of this trailer is when they run through each superhero in the film, stating how Iron Man needed to redeem himself from the terrible Iron Man 2, and how Captain America needed to be there despite being no one’s favourite character. Another classic moment is the created “bromance” scene between Tony Stark and Bruce Banner equipped with jazz lounge music.
- While you can usually tell when Screen Junkies actually dislikeS a film they are spoofing, they are clearly big fans of “The Avengers”, praising several different scenes and stating that if you don’t like this movie, you may just be dead inside.
