Written by Alex Crilly-Mckean,

We don't know what the hell is going on, but we can't stop laughing. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Funniest Moments in Anime.

For this list, we'll be looking at the scenes in anime that, what else, made us laugh our arses off. Humor may be subjective, but given just how weird, wacky and wonderful anime comedy tends to be, there should be at least one entry here that tickles your funny bone.
If you don't want these jokes ruined for you, then be aware that a spoiler alert is now in effect.

“Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto” (2016) The most perfect of students can handle any task with flawless precision, even when it comes to renting porn. Tasked with retrieving the seedy flicks by fellow students, the whole thing turns into something straight out of Mission Impossible. Weaving past fellow classmates and sneaking into the 18+ section are one thing, but the shining moment of this scene is his interaction with the manager of the store - which Sakamoto handles without breaking a sweat. You’d swear we’d be used to his perfection by this point, but then he pulls a stunt like this.

#9: Osaka’s Dream

“Azumanga Daioh” (2002) While all the girls in this series have their own quirks, it’s fair to say that out of all them Osaka was the most…special. Need proof? Well, she has some really messed up dreams for starters, though that might be due to the rather strange visitor who decides to drop in. The catlike creature claiming to be Chiyo’s father makes a reappearance, where the two of them start speaking in some hilariously bad English and discussing the nature of cats.

#8: Dodgeball Class

“The Disastrous Life of Saiki K” (2016; 2018) Living with innumerable psychic powers can make even the simplest of exercises a challenge to navigate. In order to keep his abilities secret, Saiki does his best in order to get himself knocked out of a game of dodgeball as early as possible, but as expected, nothing goes right. He nearly flattens people with his super strength, Hairo’s overenthusiasm for the sport just won’t allow him to quit, and Kaido is…well, just being Kaido. His psychic powers may remain undiscovered, but its fair to say no one will be forgetting this class for a long time. Seriously Kaido, what was that throw?!

#7: Emo Dandy

“Space Dandy” (2014) We all know that the captain of the Aloha Oe is many things, but depressed is certainly not one of them. He’s all about the groove, baby. However, turns out such a Dandy does exist, he’s just from a parallel dimension. After accidentally opening the cosmic floodgates, multiple alternate versions of the Aloha Oe crew start randomly appearing. This includes Emo Dandy, a man who is depressed beyond all reason. Hey, if our crew looked anything like this, we’d despair too.

#6: Friendship Wave

“Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo” (2003-05) If you’re an avid fan of this hair-raising defender, then you know that his parodies and jokes are often ascended levels of weird. Take this fight for example. While it looks like Bobobo, Don Patch and Jelly are about to be defeated by the villainous Halekulani and his billion-dollar blasts, the trio bust out their trump card; the friendship wave! Good aim. The icing of the cake is when we truly see the unparalleled levels of friendship Bobobo contains.

#5: Swimming Lesson

“Golden Boy” (1995-96) Kintaro Oe is nothing short of a free-spirit who lives to learn about everything and anything, including the quickest way he can get into the pants of every beautiful lady he meets. In this instance, he’s willing to become a swimming instructor in order to make some waves with a former Olympic athlete. There’s just one problem; as seen here. Throw in the immortal words and this moment cemented Kintaro’s status as one of anime’s most lovable losers.

#4: Dragon Quest

“Daily Lives of High School Boys” (2012) Well here is a crossover we never thought we would see. After picking up a random stick in the street, Tadakuni finds himself forced into a live-action RPG by his two pals, except this one isn’t so much epic as it is gut-bustlingly funny. They ignore random monster encounters, sing all the musical cues themselves and basically eviscerate every gaming trope possible. They would later come back to this RPG with an indoor adventure, only to quickly lose track of all the characters in their party...

#3: The Shrine

“Nichijou” (2011) What occurs here can only be described as the universe actively deciding to fuck with our lead characters. While waiting outside of a Shinto shrine, Mio and Mai discover they forgot to complete their sculpting assignment for school. From there, it all goes to hell in a hand basket. The misfortune just keeps going and going and going... When even the shrine’s owner can’t catch a break, you know the gods have turned against you. We think the girls’ expression speaks for itself.

#2: The Shower

“Prison School” (2015) Given how 90 percent of this anime is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of just how much fanservice one series can get away with, what’s wrong with the guys having a gay ol’ time? While showering together, Kiyoshi and Gakuto innocently talk about their predicament, only for Shingo to eavesdrop on them and drastically mishear things. When he takes a peak to check, he’s rather horrified to see the two of them going all the way. Of course, he’s just seeing things, but you can’t deny seeing Kiyoshi and Gakuto portrayed as homoerotic demons just dying to drag their friend into some showery-fun-times is just as juvenile as it is hilarious.

#1: Toilet Paper

“Gintama” (2006-) Only this anime could take a whole episode dedicated to something as ridiculous as this and still make it work. Trapped in a bathroom without any toilet paper, Gintoki, Kondou, Toujou, and Binbokusai soon find themselves in a battle of deception as they try to find something to wipe with. Luckily, Gin has just the thing; sandpaper. Needless to say, the outcome is a painful one as kondou and Toujou struggle to decide between using said sandpaper or cherished photographs for their unclean backsides.
