Make ‘em laugh. Make ‘em laugh. Make ‘em laugh. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 funniest laughing scenes in movies. For this list, we’re taking a look at big screen scenes in which the characters can’t control their laughter and neither can the audience. If you didn’t find a scene you thought should be on this list, be sure to check out our list of the top 10 serious laughing scenes in movies to see the dark side of comedy.

#10: ‘Tis the Season to be Merry “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” (1989)

Sometimes when you say something uncomfortable, the best way to ease the awkward tension is by laughing it off. All the laughter in the world can’t save Clark Griswold in this scene from “Christmas Vacation,” however, as a flirty clerk named Mary helps him shop for women’s underwear. Unable to conceal his attraction, Clark gets tongue-tied with every word that exits his mouth. Mary doesn’t call the bumbling Clark out, but his son Rusty knows exactly what’s going on in his dad’s head, leading to a hilarious expression of realization.

#9: Fake Laughing “Ocean’s Twelve” (2004)

When hoping to do business with somebody, it’s important to laugh at all their jokes, even if they aren’t funny. Being master conmen, you’d think Danny Ocean and Rusty Ryan would be able to sell convincing fake laughs. When potential partner Matsui shares a supposedly humorous anecdote in “Ocean’s Twelve,” however, Danny and Rusty’s response sounds about as genuine as two celebrities claiming to be in love. With forced grins, drawn-out chuckles, and Linus giving a reluctant thumbs up, the audience can’t help but smile at how phony their laughter is.

#8: Walter Loses It “The Money Pit” (1986)

After blowing the most epic fuse in cinema, all Walter wants to do is take a relaxing bath. The unfortunate homeowner can’t catch a break, though, as the tub collapses through the floor. What ensues is a laugh so hysterical and schizophrenic, it could only come from a great actor like Tom Hanks. Walter’s laugh is all over the place, sounding like a mental patient one second and a choking walrus the next. Although the house from “The Money Pit” might be worthless, this scene is nothing short of priceless.

#7: A Game of Wits “The Princess Bride” (1987)

Even if Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates were present, Vizzini from “The Princess Bride” would still claim to be the smartest man in the room. Thinking he’s beaten Westley at a game of wits, Vizzini gloats in a tirade of conceited cackling. Then just when Vizzini couldn’t possibly feel more high and mighty, he topples over mid-laugh. While part of us is sad to see such a great character die, it had to be done in the name of comedy. If this scene doesn’t have you laughing, it’s absolutely inconceivable.

#6: Killing ‘Em with Laughter “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (1988)

Also in:

Top 10 Action Movie Killing Spree Scenes

Here’s yet another scene so sidesplitting that the characters literally laugh themselves to death. Although Judge Doom’s Dip is thought to be the only way to kill a toon, Eddie Valiant finds another method as he reconnects with his funny bone in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” Employing old school slapstick, Eddie is such a hit with his weasel captors that they start pushing up daisies one by one. It just goes to show that laughter can be the best medicine, but it can also be fatal.

#5: Pulling the Wrong Tooth “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” (1976)

Jacques Clouseau posing as a dentist? What comedic hijinks could possibly ensue? Sporting a cartoonish getup, our hero infiltrates Dreyfus’ castle in this scene from “The Pink Panther Strikes Again.” With his enemy suffering from a toothache, Clouseau attempts to give him a dose of nitrous oxide. The bumbling inspector takes a whiff of the gas himself, though, and the two start howling like hyenas. Dreyfus eventually figures Clouseau out upon realizing the wrong tooth’s been pulled. Even then, however, he can’t restrain himself from laughter – and neither can we.

#4: Lethal Laughter “Lethal Weapon 4” (1998)

Also in:

Top 10 Lethal Actors

As the “Lethal Weapon” movies went on, they started to put more of an emphasis on comedy than action. This bit from the fourth film in the franchise is as golden as a dental crown. Once again centered on laughing gas, the scene involves the reckless cops interrogating Uncle Benny with dental equipment. As the stereotypical Chinese man gets high, our heroes get in on the laughter too. In addition to making Benny talk, the gas causes Riggs to drop a huge bombshell. Luckily, Murtaugh is in a good mood.

#3: Fart on Fire “Dumb and Dumber” (1994)

Lloyd Christmas is one of those characters that you constantly laugh at, but don’t really laugh with. He’s far too idiotic to craft a clever or original joke. In his inept mind, though, Lloyd plans to sweep Mary Swanson off her feet through his charms and humor. His shtick includes standup with bizarre payoffs, nose flipping, and the always endearing fart on fire. Like much of the humor in “Dumb and Dumber,” it’s amazing how the filmmakers manage to make something so stupid and childish so hilarious.

#2: I Love to Laugh “Mary Poppins” (1964)

Laughter is one of the most powerful forces on Earth. So powerful that it can fuel a laugh-oholic like Uncle Albert to defy gravity. Busting a gut with glee, he wishes to share his infectious laughter with the world via song. It doesn’t take long for Bert and the children to catch a serious case of the chuckles too, joining Albert on the ceiling. Celebrating the sheer gift of laughter, this scene from “Mary Poppins” is guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face…unless you’re Mary Poppins herself that is. Before we laugh with our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: - Getting High “21 Jump Street” (2012) - Buzz, Look an Alien! “Toy Story” (1995) - J. Jonah Jameson’s Laugh “Spider-Man 2” (2004)

#1: Evil Laughing “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” (1997)

Also in:

Top 10 Evil Movie Laughs

A diabolical villain like Dr. Evil can never resist a maniacal laugh; it’s one of the biggest bad guy clichés of all time. “Austin Powers” raises some interesting questions about the evil laugh when Dr. Evil and his minions revel over their devious scheme. Once the music and laughter climaxes, though, everything unceremoniously begins to die down. All laughed out, they’re left wondering what to do next and when the scene is going to cut. With great satire, this scene demonstrates just how silly a menacing laugh can truly be. Do you agree with our list? What do you think is the funniest laughing scene in movies?
