They later created an Instagram account for him, which drew in people from around the world. Sam can be found on Instagram as @samhaseyebrows, and as of August 2017 he has 235 thousand followers!

#8: Snoopy the Cat

Born in 2011, this pedigreed kitty is actually a competitive show cat. Because of his distinct squashed face and large round eyes, Snoopy looks almost too cute to be real. You can follow Snoopy on Instagram where he goes by @Snoopybabe and has almost 360 thousand followers as of August 2017. His social media is full of photos of him in funny costumes as well as everyday situations.

#7: Cole & Marmalade

Many of the cats on our list were made famous by their Instagram presences, but these two rose to fame on YouTube. Cole and Marmalade are two adopted kitties, taken in by their owners Chris Poole and Jessica Josephs in 2012 and 2013, respectively. As of 2017, they have over 600 000 subscribers and 54 million total views on all their videos. #6: Pudge

Pudge is an exotic shorthair from Minneapolis, Minnesota who started amassing followers after attending the 2012 Internet Cat Video Festival. Her owner, Kady Lone, quit her design job to manage Pudge’s social media presence full time after her accounts began to take off. She started posting photos when Pudge was a kitten and soon people were clamoring for more. Lone is also one of the curators of the hugely popular account “Cats of Instagram,” which has 8.2 million followers, as of 2017.

#5: Hamilton the Hipster Cat

Boasting 754 thousand Instagram followers as of writing, this kitty’s natural features give him the appearance of a homebrewing, fixed-gear-bike-riding hipster. His fur patterns create an epic handlebar moustache and his owners have created a social media presence to match. Jay Stowe adopted him from the Humane Society of Silicon Valley as a feral cat who wasn’t raised with any contact with humans. Always devoted to the adoption cause, Stowe decided to give Hamilton’s account to a rescue organization after he amassed half a million followers so they could benefit from the exposure.

#4: Venus the Two-Faced Cat

Topping out our list so far in terms of Insta followers is this unique looking feline with an incredibly striking face. With 1.3 million followers as of August 2017, everyone is intrigued by this enigmatic cat. Venus is a tortoiseshell short-hair whose face is half black with a green eye and the other half orange with a blue eye. Even experts and geneticists are baffled by her appearance, which is extremely uncommon. Just the fact that she has a blue eye at all is rare because typically cats’ eyes are green or yellow.

#3: Nala

With 3.4 million Instagram followers, Nala has nearly double the fans that Venus does as of writing. Her owner, Varisiri adopted her from a shelter in Los Angeles when she was a kitten and was taken with her adorable appearance. She said that Nala licked her face that day and she just knew it was meant to be. Her large eyes are just a little bit crossed, which totally adds to her appeal. According to her page, she is a Siamese and Tabby mix who turned 7 years old in 2017. … #2: Lil Bub

This strange looking kitty has inspired books, a web series, a documentary called “Lil Bub & Friendz”, mugs, tote bags and a variety of other merchandise. Her mother was feral and Lil Bub was the runt of the litter. Lil Bub has numerous genetic mutations, one of which causes her tongue to permanently hang out of her mouth. She also has osteopetrosis and several extra toes. She makes many public and media appearances, trying to meet as many of her fans as possible. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. Maru Princess Monster Truck Spangles the Cross-Eyed Kitty

#1: Grumpy Cat

Of course, this permanently discontent-looking cat had to be number one on our list. Grumpy Cat is a household name, growing bigger than any other social media cat in terms of fame. Not everyone knows that her real name is Tardar Sauce, and that she’s female. Caused by an underbite, her downturned face is what makes her so recognizable. She also has feline dwarfism, which makes her smaller than the average cat. She is now the subject of countless memes and since 2013 has been one of the spokescats of Friskies.
