Joe Fox owns a mega chain bookstore and is exchanging romantic emails with Kathleen, a small, hole-in-the-wall bookstore owner – but they don’t know each other’s identities in real life. After Joe finds out that she is her competition though, he doesn’t tell her he is actually planning on opening a Fox Books nearby. While her store begins going under, they somehow end up meeting over and over again – and during one encounter, even when he realizes she’s his online correspondent, Fox still doesn’t tell her! After all that, when she ultimately finds out his true identity, she magically forgives him. But we can’t help but ask who in their right mind forgives someone who withholds important information from them that could ruin their lives and careers - multiple times? And then goes on to date them when all is said and done?
#9: Annie Walker “Bridesmaids” (2011)
Annie is going through a slew of huge life disappointments. As her best friend Lillian’s Maid of Honor, she unintentionally ruins all of the major events leading up the wedding. This includes causing the whole bridal party to involuntarily poop in a bridal shop - and the streets, as well as her throwing a massive tantrum at the bridal shower. While we could have guessed that Annie and Lillian would ultimately rekindle their friendship, we find it hard to believe that Lillian could so lovingly take Annie back after her best friend destroyed one of life’s biggest occasions. Who would have thought that filling up the bathroom of the biggest bridal store in town with body fluids and waste, and tearing everything down at a fancy party, were so easily forgivable?

Amy is a young woman who parties up the single life and has seemingly one-night stands every weekend. Though she was raised to believe monogamy isn’t realistic, she ends up getting serious with Aaron, while they’re on a work project together. Out of fear, she quickly tries to break it off, and uses the fact that her boss will fire her if they don’t keep things professional as a legitimate reason for it. Calling off a budding relationship and using work as an excuse is certainly immature – and it’s difficult to fathom why someone would want to stay with a woman with major commitment issues. So if DO you want a serious relationship – and no offense to the younger viewers in our audience – then why would you continue dating someone who behaves like a 20-year-old?

In the present, Melanie is happily engaged Andrew in New York City. However, what Andrew doesn’t know about is that she needs to go back to Alabama to get a divorce from her estranged husband Jake. After a series of events in her hometown, Melanie appears to returs to her Southern roots when it comes to her personality and her character. Of course, Andrew shows up just a few days before the wedding unexpectedly and finds out the truth about her - but he still chooses to marry her! After lying about her real name, her marital status and her past, it’s surprising that Melanie wouldn’t feel any shame about keeping her fiancé’s ring on. And after all that, it also brings up questions about the guy who would still stand at the altar waiting for his deceitful bride to walk down the aisle towards him.

Danny and Sandy are teenagers from different high schools – and different countries. In 1958, they share a typical romantic summer fling. When an unexpected turn of events allow them to meet again at school, he pretends he doesn’t know her to keep his bad boy image intact in front of all his friends. Why would you go back to someone who’s essentially a hypocrite by pretending he’s “too cool” for you just for the sake of popularity? If Sandy was as angry as she seemed, how could she change her mind so quickly and forgive him? Yes, we’re talking high school here, where teenagers do silly things and are quite the emotional wrecks to begin with, but unless a guy who cares more about his ego is your type, then this movie really makes you think…

Dan Gallagher is supposedly happily married to Beth, yet somehow manages to justify having an affair with Alexandra. They agree to leave it as a fling but things are more easily said than done. Alex soon becomes crazy obsessive, following Dan around, constantly calling him at work, cutting her wrists, tracking his family when they move, and even kidnapping his daughter before dropping her off back home. While this is a whole other level of insane, Beth still forgives Dan when she finds out about his affair. Apparently lying, cheating and practically losing a child are all forgivable – at least they are in this movie.

Bridget despises Mark, who has said hurtful things to her in the past. Bridget goes out with her boss, Daniel, who says shady things about Mark. Bridget goes back and forth between them for some time until Mark finds her journal, in which she had written about how much she hated him. Not only is she unable to make up her mind between two guys, but she also trash-talks behind his back. And yet, he still wants her! Guess that’s just what “nice guys do.”
#3: Dexter ‘Dex’ Thaler III “Something Borrowed” (2011)
Darcy and Dex are engaged, but her best friend, Rachel, has had feelings for him since they met. Of course, they decide to reveal this to each other during the time leading up to the wedding, which ends up with them sleeping together – more than once. Dex eventually cancels the wedding and reveals to Rachel that he's in love with her. Meanwhile, Darcy has become pregnant by a man she had been cheating on her ex-fiancé with. Everyone is angry, but as is this a rom-com, they all seemingly forgive each other in the end. While Darcy and Dex don’t get back together as a couple, they appear to at least forgive each other as friends, but the fact that he cheated on her with her best friend is still a hard pill to swallow.

Ah, young love. Allie is “the one that got away” in Noah’s eyes, so he dedicates his life to writing her letters everyday and eventually building her dream home to lure her back. Allie does come back – as an engaged woman – and has a hard time choosing between whom her family wants her to choose and whom she wants to be with. This is a double whammy! Andie and Ben use each other for their company projects to prove certain relationship-based points. They begin dating and go through a series of wild events, without knowing each other’s true intentions...and naturally, just like in any rom-com, fall for each other. They end up finding out the truth at a work party, and with time, forgive each other. While these characters’ pursuits of their own interests, as well as their dishonesty, make them very tough to forgive – let alone love – when it comes to Hollywood, it’s hard to deny that Andie and Ben don’t seem made for each other.
