VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Joey Turner
These running gags will leave you feeling anything but blue. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most memorable recurring jokes on “Bluey,” either in multiple episodes or within a single one. Our countdown includes the long dog, Muffin's meltdowns, Chattermax, and more!

#10: Unicorse

Once in a while, Bluey and Bingo are visited by the only force in the household more chaotic than either of them – Unicorse! Typically controlled by Bandit, this unicorn puppet is wild, loud, and just plain rude. Chilli finds him to be the most annoying puppet in the world, while Bluey and Bingo think he’s great fun, and even help him work on himself. In other words, there’s never a dull moment when he’s around – especially because he marches to the beat of his own drum, and isn’t afraid to let us know it. Of course, Unicorse’s chaotic, uncouth energy is exactly what makes him so entertaining. Plus, Bandit is clearly having immense fun playing the part and busting our guts.

#9: “Here Come the Grannies!”

Bluey and Bingo have plenty of games. But the one that gets us every time is Grannies. In this bit, Bluey and Bingo dress up as their elderly alter-egos, Janet and Rita; and when these outrageous grannies come to town, complete pandemonium is guaranteed. We can expect inconveniently-timed naps, smuggling beans out of the store, mayhem on the bus, and spilled coins everywhere. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! As usual, the sisters’ commitment to their roles makes the recurring game even funnier. Even their cousin Muffin gets in on the act as a grouchy granny named Gladys, to hilarious effect. When you hear the grannies are coming, prepare to laugh so hard your sides hurt all night.

#8: Chattermax

We still have nightmares about Furbies, the chattering toy creatures that tended to be more creepy than cute. Naturally, Bluey and Bingo have their own version of the infamous toy – Chattermax. Every now and then, this noisy robotic owl toy pops up to cause a ruckus – it screeches, sings, flashes bright lights, and relieves itself. We’re terrified, yet can’t look away. When Chattermax isn’t loudly hogging the spotlight, he can usually be found in very unusual places, hilariously haunting us with his existence. Maybe there WAS a reason he was left under the sink for so long! Love or hate him, there’s no denying the world of “Bluey” wouldn’t be as entertaining without the perpetually on Chattermax.

#7: The Catchphrases

Like many great cartoon characters, the members of the Heeler family have plenty of memorable catchphrases they use at the perfect times. For example, when something exciting or good happens, Chilli happily exclaims [“Wackadoo”]. Bandit, meanwhile, has a go-to phrase for expressing frustration that always makes us feel hungry. Conversely, whenever Bingo is the one getting frustrated, she loudly lets us know she is not pleased. Meanwhile, if something seems too good to be true, Bluey tends to ask an important question, just to make sure it’s actually happening. And often, when things go just right, characters – Heeler or not – throw their paws into the air and shout one simple word of excitement.

#6: Poor Lucky’s Dad

Usually, the Heelers try to keep their games contained. But hey, sometimes neighbors end up getting dragged into the fun! One of those neighbors is Pat – aka Lucky’s dad – who ends up joining when he leasts expects it, and gets caught in wild predicaments he’s not prepared for. It’s not uncommon for him to wind up in an embarrassing situation, or getting a minor injury! Thankfully, Pat plays along and does his best to make things fun for the kids, showing what a great friend he is. Plus, living next door means that once in a while, he gets a chance to chuckle at Bandit’s OWN misfortune, so that balances things out.

#5: Objecting

Bluey and Bingo are masters at coming up with different things to do, and Chilli and Bandit are always ready and willing to entertain their children. But that doesn’t mean they don’t sometimes dread the games they get roped into playing. Trust us, they often do, and they make it vocally known! Of course, their protesting isn’t actually too serious, and they inevitably take part in whatever antics necessary, for the kids’ sake. Occasionally, the roles even get shuffled around. We’ll see Chilli object over Bandit bringing Unicorse out, or the girls get a taste of their own medicine! Everytime we hear the plea though, we know we’re about to be treated to something delightfully chaotic – no matter who’s speaking the words!

#4: Muffin’s Meltdowns

There are a slew of fantastic supporting characters on the show. But few have as much chaotic charisma as Muffin. The young pup is much more rambunctious than her cousins Bluey and Bingo – she’s also much louder! If she’s unhappy with the way things are going, she’s known to either shriek or throw a tantrum of major proportions. No one is safe when this chaotic little munchkin is on the rampage – not her cousins, not her parents, not even a grouchy old lady stands a chance against her meltdowns. Yet we can’t help but chuckle at her tirades thanks to her hilarious energy. And when she has a sleep-deprived meltdown? Then it’s really impossible not to burst out laughing.

#3: The Long Dog

Anyone with a keen eye can spot tennis balls or Chattermax every so often in a “Bluey” episode. But if you look closely enough, you might be able to spot an even bigger recurring Easter Egg in the background – Long Dogs. These small pups can look different, but the constant is that there is always one around if you’re watching an episode of “Bluey.” It’s basically become a game of “Where’s Waldo,” (or “Where’s Wally” if you prefer) as we try to spot the miniature pooch in the background. It could be a toy in the playroom or a bumper sticker. It could be reading a book, or relaxing at the bottom of a fish tank. There’s no telling where long dogs might appear.

#2: Chilli’s Icy Stare

Also in:

Top 10 Funniest Chilli Moments on Bluey

Chilli is an easy-going and loving mother and partner. But every so often, she needs to remind the rest of her family who leads the pack. She doesn’t need to scream or yell at them though. In fact, she doesn’t even need to say anything. All Chilli really needs to do is turn her head and flash an angry scowl. If anyone dares to give her lip or disobey her, the icy stare will set them straight. Thankfully, she doesn’t need to pull the glare out that often, but when she does, anyone caught in her crosshairs better mind their attitude. It’s effective and efficient – you go, Chilli!

#1: “Morning, Wendy”

Living in the same neighborhood as the Heelers is definitely exciting, but it can get surreal really fast. No one knows this better than Judo’s mom, Wendy. She’ll just be minding her own business, when she suddenly witnesses the Heelers’ shenanigans. Their response is typically a greeting. It’s hilariously simple, especially since Wendy is usually horrified at the bizarre display. It’s business as usual for our main family, but seeing their neighbor react to the madness is too amusing. On some rare occasions, she finds herself joining them, showing that even she’s not above taking part in the Heelers’ unique brand of fun.
