Top 10 Anticipated Games for the Rest of 2018
Who says Christmas only comes once a year? Video game release dates say otherwise! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anticipated Games for the Rest of 2018.
For this list, we’re looking at the biggest video game releases still to come this year.
Release Date: September 21 (PS4, Xbox One)
Gamers love remastered trilogy packs, and we’re confident that this collection will be no different. The fact that Activision is bringing back the first three games in the beloved platforming series has old and new gamers alike chomping at the bit. Insomniac Games originally developed all three games for the PSOne between 1998 and 2000, but don’t worry Xbox One owners, this time around Spyro is not limited to just the PlayStation alone. We’re clamoring at the chance to jump back into the world of the Dragon Kingdom with reports from E3 that levels remain the exact same as in the originals, right down to the placement of enemies – but with overhauled graphics, of course.
Release Date: November 13 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
More like Season 2 of “Hitman,” the smash-hit, episodic stealth series is coming back this Fall bigger and badder than ever! We’ve missed Agent 47 since the last episode of the first game was released way back in October of 2016. The sequel picks up with The Bald Assassin hunting the mysterious Shadow Client while discovering hidden truths about his murky past. Also, a co-op multiplayer mode called “Sniper Assassin” is available for those who pre-order the game, which sees Agent 47 sniping targets on a time limit. Okay, okay… Just take our money already!
Release Date: September 14 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Our first reaction upon seeing gameplay of the follow-up to “Rise of the Tomb Raider” was something along the lines of, “Wow this looks amazing!” Seriously, the graphics are stunning and, combined with the tried and true gameplay of the series, we cannot wait to strap ourselves in to experience Laura’s next adventure. Unlike the previous two rebooted versions of the series, Eidos Montreal developed the majority of this game and Crystal Dynamics played a supporting role, so you can be sure that stealth will be an integral part of the newest Lara Croft saga, seeing as Eidos Montreal is behind such games as “Deus EX” and “Thief.”
Release Date: November 16 (Nintendo Switch)
The first Nintendo Switch entry on our list also sees the first Pokémon games coming to Nintendo since “Ultra Sun” and “Ultra Moon” for the 3DS in 2017. The newest games are considered to be remakes of the 1998 title “Pokémon: Yellow” with some added elements lifted from “Pokémon: Go” (including integration with the mega-hit mobile game), and a new controller called the Poké Ball Plus. Depending on the version gamers pick up, they’ll either start the RPG adventure as Pikachu or Eevee, but outside of that the games will be the same. Leave it to Pokémon to always stand out from the crowd by offering different options with their games.

The fourth title in the Forza Horizon series (and the eleventh overall), this open-world racing game is set in a fictionalized United Kingdom and features over 450 licensed cars – that’s a serious number of pavement-crunching rides. The upcoming realistic racing game features a route creator for creating races, as well as the impressive stability of its servers to support a whopping 72 players at once. But if that’s not enough, Playground Games has already announced plans for two DLC expansions after release. We can’t wait to grab a few friends and strap into this white-knuckled speed demon of a game.

When Bethesda announced that the new Fallout game would be an online multiplayer experience, there was a lot of confusion and Internet speculation as to just how that would play out. But, as more details are made available, the confusion surrounding “Fallout 76” fades and it only sounds better and better, making us downright giddy with excitement to re-enter the post-apocalyptic world with our friends. Considered more of a Shared-World Survival Game than an MMO, we obviously won’t be the only vault dwellers out rummaging around the environment nor will all our encounters with others be friendly. The Beta launches in October.

Looking to capitalize on the success of 2017’s “Assassin’s Creed Origins,” Ubisoft is back less than one year later with an entirely new adventure set during a fictionalized take on the Peloponnesian War in 431 BCE. Unlike “Origins,” however, this title will place more emphasis on role-playing and will contain dialogue choices, branching quests, and multiple endings. But, don’t be too concerned that these features will completely change the series we know and love, as stealth-action remains a major part of the game. Also, expect the return of naval combat and for the game to be much longer than “Origins.”

Having first been teased at E3 2016, the newest Spider-Man title by Insomniac Games has been torturing fans of the famed web-slinger for almost two years, leading to incredibly high expectations and deep fears that it won’t live up to the hype; and, with the game telling an entirely new tale, we can see why fans are nervous. This is uncharted waters, folks! Previews of the game suggest it’s the best Spider-Man game to date, but luckily we won’t have to wait much longer to find out for ourselves.
Release Date: December 7 (Nintendo Switch)
Being the latest release date on our list, we’d joke that “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” is ‘last but not least,’ but clearly anyone who’s spent a day playing video games knows that Nintendo’s crossover brawler is, and continues to be, one of the most anticipated games of the year. The fifth installment in the series will be the first to debut on the Switch, and the first Smash title overall since “Super Smash Bros. for Wii-U and 3DS” in 2014; and, the four-year gap between games has clearly left fans drooling for a return of this fast-paced brawler to their Nintendo systems. We just have one question: will we get Waluigi?

Was there ever any doubt? Rockstar’s western-themed, open-world adventure looks cooler than a combination of “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” and “The Wild Bunch” – no easy task! It’s been eight years since we first played and loved the second game in the gun-slinging series, but expectations are even higher this time around, seeing as it’s Rockstar’s first open-world game to be developed exclusively for current-gen consoles. There’s a whole lot of chatter from Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two, saying that this game will quote-unquote “redefine gaming,” and we really want to believe them, but ultimately we’ll have to wait until the final week of October to find out. We’re praying for a masterpiece!
