If these good guys went bad, it'd be a real stretch for our imaginations. Join http://www.WatchMojo.com as we count down our picks for the top 10 actors that can only pull off playing a good guy. For this list, we're looking at actors who've made their careers out of playing the characters we root for, which is why it'd be almost impossible for us to see them any other way. While it's not completely unheard of, or even out of their range of capabilities, it'd certainly be difficult for us to see these actors playing anything other than the protagonist.

Top 10 Actors Who Can Play Good and Bad Guys

If these good guys went bad, it’d be a stretch for our imaginations. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 actors that can only pull off playing a good guy. For this list, we’re looking at actors who’ve made their careers out of playing the characters we root for, which is why it’d be almost impossible for us to see them any other way. While it’s not completely unheard of, or even out of their range of capabilities, it’d certainly be difficult for us to see these actors playing anything other than the protagonist.

#10: Adam Sandler

The Redemption of Adam Sandler

As a perennial man-child, it’s hard for us to imagine Adam Sandler taking a turn towards the dark side. Even when he played the son of the Devil in 2000’s “Little Nicky,” he was still a good guy, all things considered. And it’s not like we haven’t seen him take on more serious roles. It’s just that those roles never include him tapping into the evil jerk that lies dormant inside most of us.

#9: Julia Roberts

Top 10 Julia Roberts Performances

Despite her wide, toothy grin, it’s not such a far stretch to imagine this film darling in the role of a less- than-scrupulous character. And Julia Roberts did give it a go in 2012’s “Mirror Mirror,” but clearly her foray into bad girl territory was as forgettable as the film itself. While playing a still-likeable evil queen may not be that much of a reach, an evil hooker might be pushing it.

#8: Steve Carell

Top 10 Steve Carell Performances

It’s kinda hard to imagine the funny guy as the evil guy. The brooding type with a dark sense of humor? Maybe. But an all-out “steal your kids and sell them on the black market” baddie? Not so much. Steve Carell has yet to completely shrug off the mantle of comedy and go full-on bad boy, and that might be for good reason. Who wants to frown at this guy when it’s so much more fun to crack up with him?

#7: Hugh Grant

Jared Leto to Star as Hugh Hefner in New PLAYBOY Biopic – The CineFiles Ep. 41

He’s an affable Brit with boyish charm, which he’s played to his advantage in almost every film he’s appeared in. Even his role as the rakish bad boy in “Bridget Jones’s Diary” was at least mildly endearing. True, Hugh Grant took a stab (literally) at a villainous role in 2012’s “Cloud Atlas.” But even his performance as a murderous cannibal was more comical than anything else.

#6: Meg Ryan

Also in:

Another Top 10 Actors Who Always Play Villains

She’s one of America’s sweethearts. Even with her on-set affair with Russell Crowe, it’s hard to imagine this star of “Sleepless in Seattle” doing anything worse than picking up her kids late from soccer practice. She did try to shed the squeaky clean image in 2003’s “In the Cut,” where the world got a glimpse of her… cookies. But even with the nudity and cookies, Meg Ryan still comes across as a Girl Scout.

#5: George Clooney

Top 10 Most Iconic Regina George Quotes

This handsome ladies’ man may have a reputation as a lady-killer off-screen, but he’s Hollywood’s ace protagonist on-screen. Audiences have grown accustomed to seeing him help plan elaborate bank heists or break out of jail to reconcile with his wife. What they haven’t seen is George Clooney utilizing the “dark” aspect of “tall, dark, and handsome” to play a character with more nefarious intentions. He’d likely end up saving the day as the bad guy, anyway.

#4: Jason Segel

Jason Segel Bio: From How I Met Your Mother To The Five-Year Engagement

His entire persona is reminiscent of an anthropomorphized teddy bear that used to smoke a lot of weed at some point. Jason Segel actually did get his big break playing a stoner in “Freaks and Geeks” in the late ‘90s, and his loveable demeanor on “How I Met Your Mother” only further cements his nice-guy image. It probably doesn’t help that he’s an ordained minister in real life.

#3: Sandra Bullock

Also in:

Top 10 Sandra Bullock Performances

The star of “Miss Congeniality” has almost always played a hero. Whether her character is saving handsome strangers from oncoming trains or an uptight FBI agent trying to crack a case, Sandra Bullock’s always doing the right thing. Even after playing an unhinged woman with an obsessive crush in “All About Steve,” the most evil we’ve seen from this lady was her hairstyle in “The Blind Side.”

#2: Will Smith

Also in:

Top 20 Actors Who Always Play Villains

He’s like the boy next door… if you happened to grow up in a mansion in Bel-Air. We get the sense that he’s nice both on and off screen. Constantly wisecracking and often smiling, Will Smith has mastered the art of the amiable hero. Which is why it’s so hard for us to envision him as anything but the good guy. Unless he manages to pull off the amiable villain. Either way, he’s going to be amiable. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: - Drew Barrymore - Jackie Chan - Owen Wilson - Paul Rudd

#1: Tom Hanks

Also in:

Top 10 Actors Who Always Play Villains

Maybe it’s the softness of his facial features or the “helpful neighbor” tone of his voice, but it’s hard for us to see Tom Hanks playing anything other than Mr. Likable. For years, he’s had audiences rooting for him to win the girl, or even the discrimination lawsuit. He definitely has the acting talent to pull off any role under the sun, but it’s hard to imagine him going from befriending a volleyball to masterminding a criminal syndicate. Do you agree with our list? Which actor do you think couldn’t pull off playing a bad guy? For more entertaining Top 10s published every day, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.
