It’s back with a bazillion guns! Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be exploring everything you should know about “Borderlands 2.” Developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games, this is the highly anticipated sequel to 2009’s hit cell-shaded role-playing shooter. Taking place five years after the events of the previous game, players return to the backwater planet of Pandora to take on the struggle of a new team of Vault Hunters. Together, they must fight to take down a tyrant named Handsome Jack, who has claimed the Vault’s treasure trove of advanced alien weaponry and become the head of the Hyperion Corporation, one of the galaxy’s most unscrupulous arms manufacturers. With unlimited power at his fingertips, Jack has seized control of Pandora and now seeks to unleash a mysterious ancient evil named ‘The Warrior.” This is where the four new mercenaries come in, having pledged to kill Jack and re-claim the vault’s drool worthy weaponry as their own. These characters include the commando Axton, who can deploy automatic turrets, his dual-wielding ‘gunserker’ colleague Salvador, the siren Maya, who harnesses the four elements, and the team’s sword-wielding and often-cloaked assassin Zero. Day one DLC also unlocks a fifth hero known as the Mechromancer, who can take control of mechs. As the game begins, players select the character that best suites their own play style. They then set out to explore massive environments as the story unfolds through the acceptance of quests from NPCs. These non-playable characters include the heroes from the original game, some of whom must be saved from captivity, as well as the mysterious Guardian Angel and the hilarious general-purpose robot Claptrap. Completing missions leads to the accumulation of skills, experience, money and equipment. As an open-world, Pandora is infinitely filled with trash, scavengers, barren wastelands and bandits. However, this time around it is also populated with hoards of deadly alien wildlife, as well as a constant flow of Handsome Jack’s forces that pour out of his H-Shaped fortress, which can almost always be seen on the horizon. Players who found the environments in the first Borderlands game to be a bit monotonous will be happy to hear that Borderlands 2 features a larger variety of landscapes to explore. Featuring an epic campaign not seen anywhere else, Borderlands once again offers up 4-player drop-in/drop-out co-op, and even goes further by adding 2-player split screen on home consoles. Needless to say, the focus is once again on the guns, as there are countless types to collect, customize and choose from. In fact, this game offers up more firearms than the first game, which, you may recall, won a Guinness World Record for having the most firearms ever in a First Person Shooter! You can even use the bazillion plus guns while riding shotgun the game’s new vehicle, a truck capable of housing your entire party at once! Borderlands 2 is an exciting and stylish mature-rated sequel for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC. It not only ramps up the violence, comedy and gun count, but is a must play for fans of the first, and those who wish to delve into open world mayhem in the company of friends.
