The Evolution of LGBTQIA+ Representation in Horror

VOICE OVER: Tyler Allen Queer characters have been historically underrepresented in horror movies, and when they did show up, they were often regarded as disposable, depraved, or deadly. Yet, filmmaking tropes have evolved from the queer-coded villains of classic Hollywood, to more thoughtful portrayals of the LGBTQIA experience. It took nearly a century for queer representation in horror to move from a place where even being gay on screen was disallowed, to a cinematic world where queer characters can be the heroes.
