Top 10 Celebs Who Helped People Pop the Question

Thanks for making us all look bad! Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top ten celebs who helped people pop the question.

For this list, we’ll be looking at celebrities who helped people propose to their significant others. The famous person must have had a direct role in the planning or proposal, so people simply proposing in front of celebrities (to their surprise) won’t be included.

#10: Isaiah Mustafa [aka Old Spice Guy]

@Jsbeals took to Twitter to ask Isaiah Mustafa to propose for him. It’s a little forward of him, but the Old Spice Guy was up to the challenge. He appears on video, perfect, Herculean body and all, and tells Angela that their love has flowered from a seed to a love plant. Romantic candles are then wheeled in to give the proposal suitably cheesy lighting, and Old Spice Guy raises the ring. It’s a hilarious proposal that utilizes that signature tongue-in-cheek Old Spice humor to perfect effect.

#9: Sara Bareilles

Sara Bareilles could have just made a regular music video for her song “I Choose You”, but she decided to take a different, more personal approach. The music video chronicles the proposals of two real couples – Matt & Chelsea from Los Angeles and Aly & Andrea from Denver. We’re given quick text-based explanations of the elaborate proposals and watch as Sara personally helps with the preparations and the proposals themselves. And then we cry. A lot. Adorable? Yes. Heartwarming? Absolutely. Emotional? Extremely. In other words, it’s a perfect proposal. Or rather... Two perfect proposals.

#8: Ian McKellen

In 2014, filmmaker Brett Lotriet Best took to YouTube to propose to his “Star Trek”-obsessed boyfriend, Khalid Shawwa. Brett holds up signs, “Love Actually” style, with one explaining that he had gotten Patrick Stewart’s best friend to help with the proposal. A beaming Ian McKellen then appears on screen with a clapboard reading “Mookie – Will you marry me?” and jokes about Patrick Stewart being married and unavailable. We don’t know what’s more adorable – Brett’s effort and proposal or Ian McKellen’s glowing grin? Seriously, he looks like a child on Christmas morning. Either way, the proposal is awesome and sweet, and it proves just how cool Ian McKellen is. As if that needed proving.

#7: Justin Timberlake

While visiting Louisville, Kentucky during his 20/20 Experience World Tour, JT looked into the crowd to address a seemingly random man named Josh and his girlfriend, Kim. He then told them to get on stage (much to Kim’s surprise) and revealed that Josh had called him earlier. They were given the spotlight, and the rest is history (well, history for Josh and Kim at least). Proposing in front of 20,000 people is always a risk. It could become one of the greatest memories of your entire life, but it also comes with the risk of serious embarrassment. Thankfully, it went perfectly.

#6: Ed Sheeran

In 2015, Sheeran helped Rixton vocalist Jake Roche propose to his girlfriend, Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson. After Little Mix completed performing a sound check at the Key 103 Summer Live event, Sheeran showed up as a surprise guest and serenaded the two as Jake proposed. Jake later revealed that Sheeran had driven five hours on his day off to help him propose and showed great appreciation on social media, only for Sheeran to thank Jake for the KFC. We think that’s fair payment. If you don’t think Ed Sheeran is a good dude after this, then you have a heart of stone.

#5: Katy Perry

While performing in Brooklyn on her Witness Tour, Katy Perry brought couple Becky and Katy onstage and directed the latter to the shooting star dangling from the ceiling. She then told Katy that the star can make her wish come true. Katy then took the mic and proposed to Becky while Perry went absolutely bonkers in the background. They then took a selfie before Katy revealed that the other Katy had emailed her in advance. Proposals are always adorable, but one that involves Katy Perry going ballistic while clad in a sparkly silver suit and knee-high platform boots is something truly special.

#4: Kesha

Disney World is already a magical place, but Kesha helped make it extra special for these two men. Joseph Negrelli told Billboard that he had impulsively messaged Kesha on Instagram asking for help with his proposal, never thinking that she would actually answer. Well, answer she did, and the two quickly got to planning. Joseph told Naveed that they had won a contest to meet Kesha and the two were brought on stage. They were both blindfolded, but Joseph’s was quickly taken off so he could get on one knee to surprise Naveed. It was a perfectly orchestrated surprise and proposal, and Naveed’s reaction is enough to make us tear up with happiness.

#3: Drew Barrymore & Timothy Olyphant

In 2017, “Santa Clarita Diet’s” Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant came to the aid of Conor, who was proposing to his girlfriend of six years, Kamela. Conor and Kamela watched Netflix on their first date, so Conor wanted to plan a Netflix-themed proposal. Netflix sent a camera and sound crew under the guise of filming a reality show about couples watching Netflix. The two watch a video of Barrymore and Olyphant giving marriage advice before Conor appears onscreen (to the shock of Kamela), cozies in between the actors, and directs Kamela to the real Conor. He whips out the ring, she cries, our hearts melt, and we cry along with her.

#2: Adele

Now this is how you start a world tour. In the first show of her 2016 tour, Adele invited a woman named Hayley on stage. Hayley revealed to the crowd that she had proposed to her boyfriend earlier in the day, but he gave her the always-painful-to-hear “maybe.” Her boyfriend is then located in the crowd and Adele directs them to scream “Come on, Neil!” When the spotlight is put on Neil, he enthusiastically nods his head yes, prompting Adele to jump like a child in celebration. Adele is just adorable, and her antics ensured that this proposal was one that everyone in attendance would never forget.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Mariah Carey

Gary Barlow

Harry Styles

#1: Beyoncé

OK, is there anything Beyoncé can’t do? She can sing, she can rap, she can dance, and she can put on one hell of a proposal. During her Formation World Tour, Beyoncé helped her choreographer, John Silver, propose to his girlfriend and Beyoncé’s dance captain, Ashley Everett. After stopping a performance of Single Ladies, Beyoncé brought John on stage to propose to Ashley. Once the ring is put on Ashley, the song kicks back in and Ashley slays the choreography while proudly showing off her new piece of jewelry. It was a great, public proposal with a beautiful reaction set to the most perfectly-suited song and dance imaginable. It literally couldn’t have gone any better.
