Top 3 Things to Remember Before Seeing Deadpool 2

Oh, hello again! Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 3 Things to Remember Before Seeing Deadpool 2.

For this list, we’re taking a look at major plot details from the original 2016 “Deadpool” movie, bringing you up to speed for the 2018 sequel.

#3: Deadpool’s Origins

First, forget everything you learned about Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” (xref) While Deadpool’s still part of the “X-Men” universe, the 2016 film provides him with a must-needed fresh start. Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as Wade Wilson, a quipping mercenary with a special forces background. After being diagnosed with cancer, Wade signs up for a shady program in hopes of curing himself. He’s given a serum intended to unleash mutant genes, but the experiment is severely torturous. Sealed in a hyperbaric chamber, Wade gains regenerative healing abilities that wipe out his disease, but the side effects include horrible disfigurement. Assuming the name Deadpool, he embarks on a revenge mission to restore his good looks.

#2: His Relationships

The Merc with a Mouth might be a one-man army, but his movie is far from a one-man show. Wade’s love for his escort girlfriend Vanessa is what drives him to seek a cure in the first place. He quickly becomes worst enemies with his artificially-mutated captors, Angel Dust and Ajax, aka Francis Freeman. Upon being left for dead, Wade emerges with physical and emotional scars, placing Ajax at the top of his hit list. On the road to retribution, Deadpool gets support from best friend Weasel, roommate Blind Al, and long-suffering cab driver Dopinder. He also runs into a couple X-Men, including Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and… actually, those are the only two.

#1: How the First Movie Ends

The film naturally works up to an explosive climax, where Ajax takes Vanessa hostage and Deadpool storms the scrapyard. Learning that there’s no cure for his ailment, Deadpool has no reason to keep Ajax alive. Before he delivers the final blow, however, Colossus provides an inspiring speech about what it means to be a hero. But since Deadpool isn’t big on the whole hero thing . . . he just shoots his enemy mid-sentence. He may never be a Boy Scout, but Deadpool does promise to take four seconds to do the right thing in the future. Wade also reveals his face to Vanessa, who still accepts him, scars and all. Who doesn't love a happy ending, huh?
