Another Top 10 Celebrity Falls from Grace

These people had a good thing going, but one stupid decision and it all went down the drain. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for another top 10 celebrity falls from grace.

For this list, we’re looking at those celebrities that had prosperous careers and adoring fans, but one wrong move caused them to lose public respect and momentum. We’re not looking exclusively at Hollywood celebrities for this list, just famous individuals who had strong fan bases. If there’s someone you think should’ve been on this list, be sure to check out our original video on the top 10 celebrity falls from grace.

#10: Charlie Sheen

This man thinks he’s winning, but we think otherwise. Sheen was once on top of the world, starring in hit movies, earning awards, and becoming the highest paid actor on TV, pocketing $1.8 million per episode of “Two and a Half Men.” But then came numerous incidents: he trashed a hotel room while high on cocaine, and assaulting his wife, earning himself some rehab and probation in the process. Worse yet, his outburst against his boss, Chuck Lorre, got him turfed off his show. He may think he’s a “total bitchin’ rock star from Mars,” but after this incident many fans now think he’s a loser.

#9: Dixie Chicks

This all-female country band was immensely popular in the late-90s and early 2000s. That is, until one concert performance in London in 2003, when lead vocalist Natalie Maines publicly bashed then-president George W. Bush, saying they were ashamed of his political practices – especially with regards to the upcoming invasion of Iraq – and that they were embarrassed that he was from Texas. This led to widespread controversy in their home country, with crowds boycotting their music and publicly destroying their albums. While the chicks stood by their statement, the general public clearly did not agree. The trio’s only released one album since.

#8: Gary Glitter

Glitter proved to be a popular musician throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s – you may recognize his song “Rock n’ Roll Part 2” from any number of sporting events at which it’s played. However, his sharp decline started in the late-1990s when he was not only charged but convicted with possession of child pornography, and was connected with child sexual abuse claims. Things deteriorated further for the former glam rocker, until he was finally found guilty of several charges – including having sex with a minor under the age of 13 – and sentenced to 16 years in prison.

#7: ‘Mama June’ Shannon

Mama June rose to fame in the early-2010s as the stay-at-home mom of infamous child beauty pageant contestant Alana Thompson – better know to reality TV fans as Honey Boo Boo. The show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” was a major pop culture phenomenon, until it came to light that the family matriarch was dating a registered sex offender, who had been convicted of molesting an 8-year-old girl. Though Mama June initially denied the rumors, her oldest daughter eventually revealed herself as the victim of that abuse. Needless to say, June’s 15 minutes were up.

#6: Wesley Snipes

Snipes, perhaps best known for his role as vampire hunter Blade, was a major action star throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. But that ride slowed in 2006 when news broke of his income tax woes – or rather, his failure to pay them. It abruptly stopped in 2008 when he was sentenced to three years in jail for the crime. He served his sentence, finally getting out of the slammer in 2013. Since then, he’s made strides to rejuvenate his career, with roles in films like “The Expendables 3.” However, his days as a major action star and leading man may be behind him.

#5: Milli Vanilli

This dance pop duo from Germany saw immense success in the late-1980s, even winning a Grammy for Best New Artist. However, this success was short-lived, because in 1990, it was revealed that neither Fab Morvan nor Rob Pilatus – the band’s two members – had actually sung on their album. The backlash was swift and sure among fans and the media, and they were stripped of their Grammy. It even prompted legal action, with all buyers of Milli Vanilli media or concert tickets eligible for a refund – an estimated 10 million people. In 1997, the guys attempted a comeback, but Pilatus was found dead of an alcohol and prescription drug overdose in 1998, before the album could be released.

#4: Bill Cosby

Cosby, most well known for his long running sitcom “The Cosby Show,” his love of Jell-O and his sweaters, was a famous and respected comedian since he first rose to prominence in the ‘60s. Even though he’d been dogged by rumors for years, by 2015 over 30 women had come forward accusing him of sexually assaulting and/or drugging them over the years. As a result, Cosby’s honorary title of Chief Petty Officer was revoked by the U.S. Navy, and his planned 2015 comeback sitcom was canceled by NBC. While Cosby maintains his innocence, his career and image have been tarnished.

#3: O. J. Simpson

Known as one of the greatest football players ever, holding the record for the single season yards-per-game average, Simpson had a lucrative career playing football, and later parlayed his fame into a career in broadcasting, endorsements and acting. This changed in 1994 when Simpson was charged with the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend Ronald Goldman. While he was infamously found not guilty of all charges, he was found liable for their wrongful deaths in a civil trial. As if his image wasn’t defamed enough, he was then arrested in 2007 for armed robbery, kidnapping and more. He is currently serving up to 33 years in prison.

#2: Stephen Collins

He had a squeaky clean image as the reverend Eric Camden on the long-running series “7th Heaven.” But that came crashing down in late-2014, when reports of his alleged “inappropriate sexual conduct” with minors was investigated by NYC police and revealed in the media. Shortly after, Los Angeles cops reported that they’d looked into allegations of a 40-year-old sexual abuse claim against Collins in 2012; however, they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him. Collins openly admitted to three counts of “inappropriate sexual conduct with three female minors” in 1973, 1982 and 1994, and while he hasn’t been charged with anything, the court of public opinion has found him guilty.

Before we look at our top pick, here are a few dishonorable mentions:

- Chris Brown
- David Hasselhoff
- Paul Reubens
- George Michael

#1: Lance Armstrong

Even people who don’t follow professional cycling have heard of Armstrong. After all, he won the Tour de France a record seven times in a row from 1999-2005, survived cancer and launched the Livestrong Foundation to help other cancer survivors. But throughout his career, accusations of doping had followed him, and in 2012 it was finally proven that he’d used performance-enhancing drugs. That’s when he was stripped of his titles and banned from competitive cycling for life. From record setting wins and inspiration, to shame and humiliation, Armstrong is a clear example of the consequences of cheating and lying, and that’s how he earned himself the top spot on this list.
