Randy Rhoads was one of the first classically influenced metal guitarists. Most metal guitarists of the '70s were blues influenced. Rhoads also practically started the Jackson guitar company and influenced John Petrucci, Dimebag, Zakk Wylde, and countless more. BTW EVH isn't even a metal guitarist. He's more hard rock.
