Top 3 Brooklyn Nine-Nine Characters

That’s The Sound Of Da Police!

Sworn to uphold the law and madder than a box of frogs, the officers of the Nine-Nine had managed to entertain us for five seasons strong, bringing with them the perfect balance of heartfelt storytelling and side-splitting laughter with each new episode. While their chemistry as an ensemble cast is undeniable, we have to wonder which of the men and women in blue stand tall as the best character the series has ever produced.

While we have no shortage of endearing members of the force to choose from, these three take home the win in our book for consistently raising the bar in terms of both comedy and emotional poignancy.

Fair warning, there are SPOILERS AHEAD!

#3: Rosa Diaz

The precinct’s resident badass, Rosa paints herself as a tough girl that’s impossible to get close to, unless of course you don’t mind getting to stuffing kicked out of you. While she certainly has no problem when it comes to bringing the violence, what we love most about her is how she deals with her overly emotional coworkers. Given the fact she has no filter and isn’t that comfortable with handling so many feelings, her blunt responses and painful words of advice always many to simultaneously cut down and motivate Jake and the rest. The fact that deep down she just wants to be loved by someone is just the cherry on top.

#2: Jake Peralta

He’s obsessed with Die Hard, is easily misled and lets his emotions get the better of him more times than we can count. In any other situation he wouldn’t even come close to becoming an officer, and yet here he stands as the face of the series. While he often finds himself in way over his head and committing blunders that would get most cops fired, Jake’s earnest desire to protect the public keeps him in good standing with everyone in the Nine-Nine, somehow managing to serve as the voice of reason. At least when he’s not pulling pranks.

#1: Raymond Holt

The Captain of the Nine-Nine is a man of absolute discipline and eloquence, who at first glance never really seems to emote. Of course, you only need to look under the surface to see that Holt isn’t only the show’s most complex character but arguably its funniest. His dry wit knows no bounds, the times he does break away from his monotonous persona are pure poetry, and the fact he’s a gay black man who has had to deal with social injustices all throughout his career open the gateway to some beautifully written commentary. He’s the father figure you’ve always wanted, one who will throw you into hysterics without even a facial twitch. The Nine-Nine couldn’t ask for a better leader.
