Some Guys Have The Worst Luck
Some consider them lovable losers, others regard them as wastes of space that would be better off not existing. All we know is that misfortune follows these individuals around like a shadow. While some can’t help create their own pitfalls, a select few have somehow managed to upset the universe to the point where they are plagued with all manner of misery. Guess which category these three fall into?

#3: Ken Kaneki
“Tokyo Ghoul” (2014-15; 2018)
All he did was take a chance and go out with an attractive young woman. What did he get in return? He was nearly devoured by her, ended up getting turned into a Ghoul hybrid, and forced to deal with newfound cravings for human flesh. That would already be enough to upset anyone’s day, but it was only the start of Kaneki’s troubles. Hunted by Ghoul-hating humans, tortured by radical Ghouls until his mind broke, to be honest if he didn’t have Touka we shudder to think would come of our boy!
#2: Yamcha
“Dragon Ball” franchise (1986-96; 2015-)
Back in his prime, this martial artist was strong enough to knock a young Goku down to size. Nowadays? He’s been defeated so many times and become such a running joke that even the anime has become self-aware of how pathetic he is. Ever since he was caught in a Saibaman’s explosion, he’s badassery has spiralled down to the point where he now occupies the comedy relief area alongside Hercule. No wonder you didn’t seem him anywhere near the Tournament of Power.
#1: Kaiji
“Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor” (2007-08; 2011)
While he’s far from blameless when it comes to the medley of misery that is his life, the amount of crap this guy has had to deal with is nothing short of overkill. After a supposedly good gesture leaves him in financial ruin, Kaiji finds himself having to compete in a series of gambles that soon become a matter of life and death. Risking a terrifying fall, getting his ear cut off, imprisoned in a forced labor camp, we still can’t believe that after everything he’s been through Kaiji keeps finding ways to make things even worse for himself.
