You Can’t Keep An Augmented Down For Long
In terms of gripping sci-fi games that blend together political intrigue, a dark narrative and plenty of action, you can’t go wrong with the Deus Ex series. Whether you’re a fan of the original or Human Revolution, JC Denton or Adam Jensen, each brings compelling gameplay and storytelling to the masses in a way only a neo-noir can!
The latest iteration, Mankind Divided, while certainly having a few exquisite moments of its own, was generally regarded to be sub-par when compared to its incredible predecessor, in spite of the abundance of Jensen shower scenes.
However, it doesn’t look like the series is dead yet. According to an article on Gamespot, despite pooling all their efforts into the upcoming Avengers game, Jensen may yet return for a third outing!
Earlier this year, it was reported that Square Enix put the Deus Ex series on hiatus after underwhelming sales of the latest entry, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. It’s not true that the series is going away forever, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda said in a new interview. In fact, plans–at least preliminary plans–are already underway for a new instalment.
“We have never said anything about discontinuing that title but for some reason that’s the rumour out on the market,” he told GI.biz in a wide-ranging interview.
That being said, Matsuda strongly suggested that the Deus Ex series is taking a breather for the time behind. Series developer Eidos Montreal is currently working on an Avengers game, and understandably it sounds like that project is taking up the lion’s share of the studio’s development resources.
Matsuda added that Deus Ex is a “very important franchise” for Square Enix overall, adding that some discussions are already being had about what Square Enix wants to do with the next Deus Ex game. No further details are available at this time, however.
