Top 10 Shocking Casualty Scenes
#10: The Worst Husband
A woman is brought into hospital with mysterious symptoms, and doctors just can’t get to the bottom of it – mostly because her husband is lying about why she’s really there. Not only is she pregnant, unbeknownst to him, but she’s also been taking some medication she shouldn’t, unbeknownst to HER. Yes, it turns out he’s been slipping her pills to stop her from losing weight, all because he didn’t like how much more confident she got when she started to slim down – and he preferred her when she was bigger. The situation he’s put her in has led to heart inflammation which might be fatal, and is also threatening the baby.
#9: Baby Theft
Postpartum mental health is nothing to joke about, and “Casualty” wanted to address just how serious it can be in this episode. But in classic TV fashion, everything got outrageous very quickly. Nicole, who’d had a baby recently as a surrogate for someone else, started to struggle, culminating in a dramatic baby theft from the neonatal unit. Having swiped the baby, she then takes it to somebody else, convinced that the baby’s real mother is unfit. Eventually, they persuade Nicole to give the baby up and she’s finally able to get treatment. It was an enlightening and important storyline, made memorable by its melodrama.
#8: Alien Invasion
Paramedics attend to a young woman, Niamh, with serious injuries, accompanied by her mother, who’s covered in blood. She insists that the nurses in the hospital are aliens, and then also that her own daughter has been replaced with an alien invader. It turns out that her mother is suffering from a serious mental health crisis and has had a complete break with reality, insisting that she’s under observation and becoming dangerously paranoid. It’s sad to see how much Niamh is struggling to take care of her mother alone, trying to persuade her to seek proper help for her mental health and insisting that the police aren’t involved.
#7: In the Closet

Kai He begs them not to tell his dad what’s going on as Doctors they try to treat him. It turns out the patient’s ex, recently released from prison, has come to kill her and her new boyfriend After Teddy also almost gets shot with a bolt, they barricade the doors and wait for the police to arrive, besieged by one lunatic with a crossbow. Things stay outrageous once they get back to A&E, with Teddy decking the patient’s boyfriend when he insisted that it was her fault that she was attacked. It makes you wonder why crossbows are legal to own, though violence like this is thankfully rare in real life.
#5: Vegan Parents
Much to the dismay of the doctors, these vegan parents didn’t know the first thing about what you’re actually meant to feed a child. While you absolutely CAN provide a child with a balanced, vegan diet, especially these days, that wasn’t the case here; they hadn’t even ever given her any milk, vegan or otherwise – one of the most important things in a baby’s diet. Instead they were feeding her baby food made of the same mashed up vegetables they eat themselves, and letting her drink tea. Doctors learn that poor Bella is extremely malnourished because of all this. And to think, they very nearly took her to a homeopathic doctor instead of a proper hospital.
#4: Racist Mother
Even more dodgy parents, this time a teenage girl was in Holby after falling through a glass roof and onto a table. While in hospital, they discover an infected tattoo on her leg that turns out to be a neo-Nazi symbol. Her mother turns up, and it soon becomes clear that she’s an enormous bigot, who doesn’t want any of the non-white doctors in the hospital to treat her daughter. The mother pressured her into getting the tattoo and lied about losing her job as part of a conspiracy, when it turns out she was actually sacked because she was caught stealing. The girl, Keira, eventually rebels against her family’s white supremacist values.
#3: Shopkeeper’s Revenge
A revolver is the last thing you expect to see when you’re popping into the corner shop, but that’s what happened when Teddy and Jacob Sah responded to a call for help. After having his shop raided yet again by local thieves, shopkeeper Krish went to extreme lengths, shooting one of them and thwacking the other with a baseball bat, leaving one dead and the other seriously injured. Sah and Teddy end up being held at gunpoint as the situation continually escalates, with the police taking what feels like hours to arrive. After all that, Krish shoots Teddy during the stand-off, too, but he miraculously survives.

Eat your heart out, “Emmerdale”. “Casualty” had its own outlandish helicopter crash, when a young boy flew his brand-new drone into the rear propellor of an air ambulance. The chopper then crashes into another ambulance and causes havoc, with multiple people getting maimed and killed immediately. The boy later turns up at the hospital to say sorry, and Jacob goes after him before being talked down by the other staff. But it turns out that the parents are to blame, because they were the ones who bought him the drone and then left him home alone to do whatever he wanted. The accident took a major toll on the hospital.
#1: Unexploded Bomb
A man turns up in A&E with a bag full of treasures, if by treasures you mean live grenades and IEDs. His rucksack ends up being full of explosives, including a home-made one using chemicals and a milk bottle. The milk bottle cracks and Ryan is stuck holding onto it to keep the chemical reaction contained while they wait for the hospital to be evacuated and the bomb squad to arrive. Eventually Jodie takes over, saving Ryan but putting herself in jeopardy – and then the worst happens. The bomb goes off, seriously injuring Jed, the bomb disposal specialist, who ends up in intensive care with serious burns.
