10 Hardest Bosses in DOOM Games

Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at the 10 most difficult boss battles in the “DOOM” series!

Cyberdemon
“DOOM” (2016)

In the original “DOOM”, the Cyberdemon was nothing more than a walking a tank, a rocket-firing goliath that could take a ton of hits even when fighting fire with fire. In the 2016 reboot, the Cyberdemon is much more formidable and serves as the first test in you becoming the Slayer. He will force you to constantly be aware of your movement while trying to isolate you with fabricated walls and raining missiles from the sky. Be mindful of where he’s firing, and you might make it out alive.

The First Marauder
“DOOM Eternal” (2020)

Whether you believe the Marauder to be the worst enemy in “DOOM” history or the best is entirely up to you. Regardless of how you feel, there’s no denying that the first encounter with the Marauder is a real challenge. Not only does he ramp up the pressure quickly by summoning his hellhounds, but a lot of the time, your shots will be negated at a moment’s notice. It makes him incredibly annoying to deal with, and with very few windows to inflict damage normally, your best bet is to just try to spam explosives and kill the Marauder with splash damage.

Sabaoth
“DOOM 3” (2004)

Before we had the spongy Doom Hunters in “Eternal”, we had Sabaoth, the demonic transformation of Sergeant Kelly. This abomination of flesh and metal will take you on in a fairly small room, making it pretty tough to avoid his shots. What’s more troubling is that he comes equipped with the BFG9000, the most powerful weapon in most “DOOM” games. And even if you land a shot on him with the Soul Cube, it won’t take him out instantly. Two shots will, though.

Spider Mastermind
“DOOM” (2016)

Though you have finally cornered Olivia Pierce, she has been sacrificed by the demons to become the terrifying Spider Mastermind. Whereas the original iteration of this demon could be easily stunned and defeated by a volley of Plasma Rifle shots, this version requires more effort. The Spider Mastermind will utilize several attacks that cover a lot of ground from shooting several laser beams to electrocuting the floor. It can even perform a melee attack that sweeps a large area of the room. Much like the Cyberdemon, you’ll have to constantly be aware of your position in order to finally bring an end to Hell’s army. Well, for now, at least.

The Khan Maykr
“DOOM Eternal” (2020)

If “DOOM” 2016 was all about positioning, “DOOM Eternal” is all about constant motion, and the fight against the Khan Makyr shows that. She will barrage you with all kinds of projectiles and try to restrict your movement and ammo as much as possible. Honestly, the best way to guarantee your survival is to keep yourself in the air and use dashes wisely. Use monkey bars as much as possible and recognize when it's time to go back to the ground to chainsaw an enemy for ammo. Otherwise, be prepared to sweat.

Maledict
“DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil” (2005)

What makes the Maledict the most difficult boss of “DOOM 3” is the simple fact that this is an agile, airborne enemy. Under normal speed, landing shots can seem almost impossible as Maledict zooms around the map while leaving trails of hellfire. If you are to stand a chance against him, you will need to use the Artifact to activate Helltime. This will bring time to a crawl while you can move and fire weapons at regular speed. You’ll even get a damage buff while this is active. So long as you act fast, you’ll be able to bring the Maledict down with little trouble.

Seraphim
“DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part One” (2020)

Surprisingly, the creature formerly known as Samuel Hayden is a lot more formidable than the Khan Maykr herself. Not only is he a smaller target to hit compared to his former leader, the Seraphim can teleport around the arena and fire several massive purple balls of fire. He can also manipulate the environment at will, making it more difficult for you to traverse and dodge his attacks. You’re just going to have to be patient with this one; fire when you have the shot and keep an eye on your health and armor. And if he ever sends out lightning orbs, prioritize taking those out ASAP.

The Mother Demon
“DOOM 64” (1997)

The Mother Demon is a real pain in the backside, more than most normal demons in the original games. For starters, she loves to spam her flame trail attack, which can cause you to launch into the air when hit. She can also launch four rockets at once that will inflict massive knockback should one hit you. Your most effective method in bringing the Mother Demon down is to acquire the three Demon Keys and the Unmaker. When powered by the Demon Keys, the Unmaker reaches its maximum potential and can take out the Mother Demon in just a few shots. Otherwise, hope you stocked up on rockets and shotgun shells.

Icon of Sin
“DOOM II: Hell On Earth” (1994)

Of course the Icon of Sin is going to appear on this list! And honestly, his debut is still way harder than any other iteration we’ve seen. As soon as you enter his lair, the Icon of Sin will start shooting out cubes that will spawn a random demon be it Pinky, Spectre, Revenant, Arachnotron, or what have you. All of them will try to kill you while you try to focus fire on the Icon of Sin. Unfortunately, the only means of inflicting damage is by shooting a rocket into his exposed brain, which can only be done at a specific level. The pillar goes a tad too high from where you need to shoot, and auto aim doesn’t detect the Icon’s brain. So, you’ll have to try getting a shot on the way up or by falling off of the pillar.

The Dark Lord
“DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part Two” (2021)

Think of this as the Marauder fight to end all Marauder fights. The Dark Lord is, essentially, the uber Marauder as he can summon Hellhounds and negate damage with his shield almost instantly. And he gets more ferocious as you chip away at his six health bars. Once he starts summoning demons to aid him, you may find yourself overwhelmed rather quickly. But trust us - once you’re done ripping and tearing him apart, you’ll walk away feeling as mighty as the Slayer himself.
