When Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born into the House of Windsor on April 21st, 1926, she was not expected to ever ascend to the throne. However, after her uncle, King Edward, famously abdicated in favor of love, she became second in line. In preparation for her role as royalty, Elizabeth increased her public profile, toured the United Kingdom and even aided the war effort by training with the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service. But finally, on February 6th, 1952 her father passed away and she became Queen. As Queen, Elizabeth reigned through some of the most transformative times in the history of the monarchy.
