Musicians are known for the antics and crazy ways, so it’s no surprise some have alternate personalities. Welcome to Watchmojo.com and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Musicians with alter egos.
For this list, we’ve defined alter egos as personalities that are different and distinctive from a musician’s everyday personality.

#10: Lady Gaga as “Jo Calderone”

If there’s anything we can expect from Lady Gaga, it’s the unexpected. At the 2011 MTV VMAs, she left Gaga at home and brought the smooth-talking greaser Jo Calderone in her place. No one knew quite what to make of Calderone, who gave a monologue about loving Gaga and his general womanizing ways. Gaga never broke character that whole night, proving that she’s the queen of strange.

#9: Nicki Minaj as “Roman”

One day Nicki is “Harajuku Barbie,” the next day she’s “Nicki Teresa.” And that’s just to name 2 of the 14 different personalities this artist has claimed to have! But it’s Roman Zolanski, Nicki’s “twin brother” that stands out. Roman is at the forefront of her angry raps and often has a lot of rage, and in fact Nicki’s explained that Roman is the “demon inside her.” Some of her best raps include verses by Roman like in the song, “Roman’s Revenge.”

#8: Randy Blythe of Lamb of God as “Roger Brilliant”

The identity of this alter ego is wrapped in the utmost secrecy. After fans asked who Roger Brilliant was, the guys of Lamb of God began creating behind the scenes videos of this alter ego on the loose. From what we know of Roger, he’s “the sexiest man alive,” and the frontman for Roger Brilliant and the Wankers. While he seems to be a running joke between the band and their fans, we can’t help but be entertained.

#7: RZA as “Bobby Digital”

He’s a rapper, producer, actor, director and Wu-Tang Clan member. But it’s under the name of Bobby Digital that RZA produced the album “Bobby Digital in Stereo,” and it’s one of his best works to date. He used the persona as a way to get super experimental as he rapped about his wild life over keyboard-led beats. RZA often spoke of how Bobby originated out of a good high.

#6: Dave Brockie of Gwar as “Oderus Urungus”

When Dave becomes his alter, it’s more than a personality switch. It’s a full-on transformation, as he becomes a barbaric creature with devil horns and a sword called “Unt Lick.” He, or rather “it,” is an alien from the planet Scumdogia, whose mother was a petri dish and father was a supercomputer. Oderus is something of a rebel, which got into trouble with The Morality Squad. So much trouble, in fact, they cut off his penis, which he calls “the Cuttlefish of Cthulhu.”

#5: Garth Brooks as “Chris Gaines”

Everyone has an inner rock star, including country stars! Garth Brooks planned to act in a film called “The Lamb,” in which he’d play a rock musician who got sucked into the fame machine and spit back out. The character Chris Gaines was invented and inspired Brooks to make a whole album around this alternate persona. However, country fans didn’t take to Gaines too well and the film was never made. So Garth rarely mentions this period, if at all.

#4: Beyoncé as “Sasha Fierce”

After being in the spotlight for so long, Beyonce felt like she needed another means to explore her creative side. Enter Sasha Fierce. Sasha is the ferocious persona behind “Single Ladies” and she allowed Beyoncé to try some new things musically. Sasha also had a wilder side than Bey. But all good things must come to an end, and in 2010 Bey stated that she no longer needed her. But Sasha Fierce lives on in our hearts!

#3: Eminem as “Slim Shady”

Before Nicki was rage-infused Roman, Eminem had his own sociopathic alter ego in Slim Shady. With his dark verses about rape, murder, and other so-called bad things people don’t want to admit to thinking about, Eminem’s alter ego created a legacy for other hip-hop artists to use alternate personas to express themselves. And out of all the personalities out there, not one of them has an anthem as powerful as “The Real Slim Shady.”

#2: The Beatles as “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”

Always looking to do something fun and new, the Fab Four created this random band as a chance to explore their musicality. With The Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles created their 8th studio album, which led to some of their biggest hits like “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” and “With a Little Help From My Friends.”

Honorable Mentions

-Katy Perry as “Kathy Beth Terry”
-Janet Jackson as “Damita Jo”
-Hank Williams as “Luke the Drifter”

#1: David Bowie as “Ziggy Stardust”

As a musician, Bowie has gone from one persona to another but it’s this one that stands out: an alien that’s landed on Earth before the apocalypse, Ziggy Stardust poses as a rock star in an attempt to help humans. Ziggy is otherworldly and the embodiment of glam rock. This persona helped Bowie stand out from other musicians and assert himself as a rock visionary. He later went on to create the Thin White Duke, further cementing his status as an iconoclast.
